The Founder Is Pushed To Awards Season

14 July 2016 11:34 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Setting the release date of theatrical films is almost a scientific undertaking. There are many factors to consider – including the optimization of the target demographic, in-theatre competition and the possibility of awards success. The Weinstein Company has a wealth of experience in this arena, which means any alteration to the release of a Weinstein Company movie is a notable event – and The Founder is no exception.

“Written by Robert Siegel (Big Fan), The Founder is a drama that tells the true story of how Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton), a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers’ speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. He maneuvered himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion-dollar empire.”

Weinstein Company Flips McDonald’s Drama ‘The Founder’ to Awards Season

13 July 2016 12:26 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Weinstein Company is moving “The Founder,” its look at Ray Kroc, the man who brought the Big Mac to the masses, into awards season.

The cinematic look at the driving force behind the national expansion of McDonald’s has already skipped around the release calendar. It was originally slated to debut on Nov. 25, 2016 before getting moved to Aug. 5, 2016. It will now hit theaters in limited release on Dec. 16, 2016, before going wide on Jan. 20, 2017.

The hope is that Michael Keaton, who plays Kroc, could generate some Oscar chatter and that the film itself might get some love from awards voters. In December, it will face off against “Star Wars: Rogue One” and the Will Smith drama “Collateral Beauty.” When it goes wide, it will get competition from “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage” and the horror thriller “Split.”

The Founder Trailer Stars Michael Keaton as the Man Behind McDonald's

21 April 2016 11:38 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

One of this summer's most highly-anticipated movies is Warner Bros'. Suicide Squad, which will provide an origin story for the members of Task Force X in the studio's DC Extended Universe. When that movie hits theaters on August 5, it will be going up against a much different origin story, The Weinstein Company's The Founder, which charts the origins of fast food giant McDonald's, and its founder, Ray A. Kroc, played by Michael Keaton. Today we have the first trailer for The Founder, which shows how a salesman turned one hamburger stand into a worldwide empire.

In the 1950s, Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton) was a lowly milkshake maker salesman from Illinois who came across a Southern California hamburger restaurant dubbed McDonald's, run by two brothers, Mac (John Caroll Lynch) and Dick McDonald (Nick Offerman). Impressed by their speedy system of making what would become known as fast food, and their signature golden arches, »

Check out Michael Keaton in the first trailer for ‘The Founder’

21 April 2016 10:12 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

There’s no doubting that Michael Keaton is on a bit of a roll at the moment. Not only did he bag a Best Actor Oscar for Birdman, and then go on to star in the film that won Best Picture the following year (for Spotlight), the former Batman may be playing the bad-guy in the next Spider-Man movie, due next year.

Before that, he’ll be seen in a move called The Founder, which revolves around the founder of McDonalds, Ray Kroc. Keaton plays Kroc, the guy who transforms a small chain of fast-food restaurants into the multibillion dollar McDonald’s Corp. Linda Cardellini, Patrick Wilson, Nick Offerman, Laura Dern, John Carroll Lynch, and B.J. Novak.

The film arrives in cinemas in the Us on August 5th, and is yet to get a firm date for a U.K. debut, but as always, we’ll bring you more as we get it. »

21 April 2016 10:01 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"There should be McDonald's everywhere! Franchise the damn thing!" This looks like it might be pretty damn good. The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for The Founder, from director John Lee Hancock, starring Michael Keaton as McDonald's founder Ray Kroc. The story is actually about how Kroc sort of "stole" the business right out from under the McDonald brothers, played by Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch, who originally came up with the idea for a fast food burger joint in the 1950s. The cast includes Laura Dern, Linda Cardellini, Patrick Wilson and B.J. Novak. Keaton's performance doesn't seem better than his last few roles, but the film looks like it's definitely worth seeing when it opens. Here's the first official trailer for John Lee Hancock's The Founder, from USA Today (via The Playlist): Written by Robert Siegel (Big Fan), The Founder is a drama that »

Michael Keaton Builds McDonald’s Empire in ‘The Founder’ First Trailer

“McDonald’s can be the new American church, and it ain’t just open on Sundays,” Michael Keaton’s character says in the first trailer for “The Founder.”

Kroc began working for Mac and Dick McDonald (John Carroll Lynch and Nick Offerman) as a franchising agent in 1954. Impressed by the brothers’ speedy system of making food in the Southern California burger operation, he saw franchise potential and bought the chain for $2.7 million in 1961.

The key to his success? “Persistence,” Kroc says in the trailer.

Michael Keaton Hatches The McDonald’s Empire In First Trailer For The Founder

21 April 2016 8:30 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

If Birdman and Spotlight were any indication, Michael Keaton’s triumphant return to the acting scene has been welcomed by critics and fans alike, and the actor will be hoping to continue that streak later this year with real-life drama, The Founder.

Keaton will headline The Weinstein Company’s biopic as Ray Kroc, the astute businessman who transformed McDonald’s from a modest fast food chain to a global franchise, one which serves upwards of 68 million customers each and every day. That barnstorming revolution proved somewhat controversial, though, given that Kroc initially joined the company as a franchise agent during its formative years, before purchasing McDonald’s outright.

At the time, he set aside $1 million for each of the McDonald brothers, but by the time Kroc passed away in 1984, the sly businessman was worth close to $500 million, and the fast food chain has long established its presences as a global phenomenon. »
