At age sixteen, Amy was chosen to play the lead role of Christine as understudy in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh's UK tour "The Phantom of the Opera".
Trained at both the Arts Educational School in Tring and with the National Youth Music Theatre
A classically trained singer, she fulfilled her childhood ambition of recording her first album, "Best Days", in 2005. In 2006, "Best days" was nominated for Album of the year at the Classical Brit Awards.
Had a four year relationship with her then "Emmerdale" (1972) co-star Ben Freeman.
A former pupil at Bury Grammar School.
Nuttall was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Bolton on July 14, 2011.
