The CW series, starring Matthew Davis and Jessica Lucas, was pulled from the network in April, but the final six episodes will see the light of day.

"Cult" returns on Fridays, beginning June 28, airing double episodes for three weeks straight. The show centers on journalist Jeff (Davis) and production researcher Skye's (Lucas) investigation into a TV show that's generated a cult following of fans who are re-creating the crimes depicted on their screens.

Creator Rockne S. O'Bannon was the first to break the news about "Cult" coming back to finish its run via Twitter.

Great news #TrueBelievers: The CW will be airing the shocking final episodes of #Cult in 2 hour blocks 8pm-10pm on 6/28, 7/5 & 7/12. Enjoy!!

Evil Dead - Portugal Forgoes the Need for Obituaries

18 May 2013 7:05 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The advertising industry in America has become so ridiculously homogenized it almost feels as if creativity itself has died a slow and painful death. Take the remake of Evil Dead for instance. We got your standard stuff. Elsewhere had some fun!

Bloody Disgusting pointed us towards the website 9 the Creative Shop, who recently scanned and published an ad that appeared in their newspaper's obituaries section. The kicker? Since the dead were returning to life, the areas where the names of the recently deceased would appear were left blank. Pretty nifty! Take a look!

Ghost House Pictures produced the much anticipated remake of The Evil Dead, the film that effectively launched the careers of Sam Raimi (Spider-Man franchise, Darkman, Drag Me to Hell), Rob Tapert (30 Days of Night), and Bruce Campbell, who played the Ash character and was co-producer of the original. They are now back to produce an Evil Dead »

Zac Efron: 'High School Musical was my lucky break'

30 April 2013 1:25 PM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Zac Efron has said he is eternally grateful to have starred in High School Musical.

The actor revealed to Flaunt that he has nothing but fond memories of the Disney film series, which launched his career.

"Here's the one thing about High School Musical that a lot of people forget or don't realise. It affected a lot of people; its resonance, culturally, was massive," Efron said. "At the same time, it was in every sense of it, the luckiest break in the world."

He went on to comment: "The wrong thing to do - and that's what all these interviews now are trying to get me to say - is to turn on it, to like s**t on it, call it crap. But that's insane.

"There are hundreds of people who began doing one thing when they were younger, who go on to develop and refine and shape their vision, »

Revolution Hires Cult’s Rockne S. O’Bannon

30 April 2013 7:58 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

Cult creator, Mr. Rockne S. O’Bannon is in the headlines today for making it onto Revolution‘s Season 2 roster. O’Bannon will settle into his role as current showrunner Eric Kripke’s right hand man on the set. Behind the scenes, O’Bannon will be especially crucial to the upcoming season.

Congratulations are in order because of Revolution‘s exciting second-season renewal. To celebrate, it looks the show added some muscle in the writers room, suggested the THR exclusive.

In addition to creating Cult, O’Bannon is also writer of fan-favorite, Defiance. He will act on Revolution, which of course is the drama from J.J. AbramsBad Robot banner. The NBC network is treating Revolution as one of top scripted dramas in primetime. Is it worthy of such high praise in your book?

For O’Bannon, CW’s very short-lived series, Cult, was “a passion project” for the veteran sci-fi guy. »

Ru? Instant Reaction Review Podcast Ep. 53 – Evil Dead

25 April 2013 7:12 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Rather surprisingly, we hated this one. We’re both fans of the original, and even just the concept and effort involved in the original, but this movie couldn’t be worse. It’s as though Cabin in the Woods is somehow the magical time travel spoof of this movie, except that Evil Dead is actually self-mockery to a degree as well.

Nothing interesting happens, and almost with malice aforethought. It’s almost as though the film is trying to showcase the idea that this niche genre is indeed dead, as it runs through cliche after cliche, and the only thing it has to say is that people in horror movies have to be idiots.

Nevertheless, I do like Jane Levy, and I had to admit that I felt for all the actors here, which bumped me up for zero stars. Plus, I think it made for an interesting show.

Exclusive Modern Masters of Horror Interview Series - Fede Alvarez on Evil Dead

20 April 2013 8:30 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Fede Alvarez came out of nowhere. No, really though, he just showed up in town a few years ago and here he is grossing nearly $50 million with his first studio production, Evil Dead.

Plucked from seeming obscurity by the producers at Ghost House Pictures, Fede was lucky enough to get noticed by an animated short he created in 2009, called Panic Attack. The short went viral on YouTube. A few weeks later Fede’s phone rang. Ghost House was on the line. The next day he was flying to Hollywood to discuss a contract for his first feature.

People can point a frustrated finger at Fede’s fairytale rise to fame. But for Fede, his journey did not begin with Panic Attack as his first project. Fede had been making films his whole life. More importantly, before he was taken on by a studio, Fede was making films simply because he »

Morgan Freeman is finding his way back to the world of Christopher Nolan. No, the Dark Knight director hasn’t signed Freeman onto his highly anticipated next original project. 'Cult' Cancelled by CW

10 April 2013 2:12 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Looks like The CW's "Cult" needed more cultish devotion: The network has cancelled the freshman drama. The series premiered Feb. 19 to disappointing numbers, scoring a meager 0.3 rating/1 share in the advertiser-sought 18-49 demographic and 941,000 total viewers. The show -- which hailed from "Gossip Girl" executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage -- wasn't helped by a timeslot shift to Fridays. The series, starring Matt Davis of the network's "Vampire Diaries" and "Melrose Place" star Jessica Lucas, had a »

Paul W.S. Anderson's Pompeii Gets a Distributor and Release Date

10 April 2013 1:01 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Paul W.S. Anderson's next film, a historical/action/disaster movie, based on the real life events in Pompeii has picked up a distributor in FilmDistrict and now has an official release date set.  Come inside for all the details and casting info.

Paul W.S. Anderson is an interesting director in that he creates some seriously cheesy and schlocky films (on a similar magnitude of Uwe Boll), but somehow they always manage to make quite a bit of money.  I don't know how he does it, but somehow he pulls it all together (often with a fairly reasonable cast too).  While I can't say I go into any of his films with particularly high expectations, Pompeii is one I'm keeping an eye on.

For one, the cast he's assembled so far (including Jared Harris, Kiefer Sutherland, and Carrie-Ann Moss) is pretty decent.  Secondly, I'm a sucker for disaster type films, »

So Long, 'Cult'

10 April 2013 12:50 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

"Cult" has been canceled, Zap2It was the first to report.

The show's creator Rockne S. O'Bannon confirmed the news via Twitter:

#Cult Sadly true. CW Execs once called the last 5 episodes "outstanding". I guess too outstanding. You are great, Smart fans. Thx to u all!

-- Rockne S. O'Bannon (@Rockne_S) April 10, 2013

"Cult's" cancellation doesn't come as a surprise. The midseason series made its debut on Tuesday, February 19 and brought in a dismal 941,000 total viewers and only had a .3 rating in the key 18-49 demo.

After its second outing, which saw even lower numbers, The CW moved "Cult" to Fridays, which, for the teen-centric network, is not quite as deadly as is it on others. "Nikita" and "Supernatural" have both flourished on Fridays, but "Cult" did not. The most recent episode, which aired on Friday, April 5, brought in 620,000 total viewers and had a .2 rating.

'Cult' canceled: The CW drops meta-thriller series from schedule

10 April 2013 12:48 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Unfortunate news, "Cult" fans -- The CW has dropped the series from its Friday night line-up.

Starring Matt Davis, Alona Tal, Robert Knepper, and Jessica Lucas, the meta drama -- about strange doings behind-the-scenes of a cult TV show on The CW called "Cult" -- has struggled in the ratings since its debut. It was moved from Tuesday night to Friday night, which has proven successful for The CW's genre fare in the past, but even on its new night the ratings didn't stabilize.

The CW has no immediate plans to air the remaining episodes of "Cult." The cast and crew did film a 13-episode season, but only seven episodes aired. For now, the upcoming episodes have been removed from The CW's schedule.

For the next three weeks, the expected episodes (titled ""The Devil You Know," "Off To See The Wizard," and "The Prophecy of St. Clare") will be replaced »

The CW Pulls Cult from its Friday Night Schedule

10 April 2013 12:18 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

While we haven't received official confirmation that The CW is outright cancelling "Cult," the network has removed the series from its upcoming Friday night schedule for the next three weeks so you do the math.

We just got revised listings from The CW for April 12th, 19th, and 26th, and the 9-10pm spot previously held by "Cult" is being filled by reruns of "The Carrie Diaries" on the 12th and "Oh Sit!" the following two weeks.

The show had a great premise and some pretty cool casting, but things just never really gelled for us. At least Jessica Lucas has the success of Evil Dead to bask in for the moment, and we're pretty sure Matt Davis will be heading back to Mystic Falls and "The Vampire Diaries" to be resurrected by Silas.

While he may not be as beloved as that other Paul Anderson, shlock-auteur Paul W.S. Anderson has never been hurting for work. His latest effort, the period-disaster 3D film “Pompeii” has seen a flurry of casting additions and it now has a release date smack dab in the middle of the early-year dumping ground. The film, which stars “Game Of Thrones” actor Kit Harington and Emily Browning as doomed lovers during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 Ad, has added “The Matrix” and “Memento” star Carrie-Anne Moss as Browning’s mother as well as “Evil Dead” victim Jessica Lucas and “Lost” castaway Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje as Browning’s slave/confidante and Harington’s fellow enslaved gladiator, respectively. And finally, per The Wrap, TriStar Pictures has set the release date for the film for next year on February 28, 2014, a date which the film has all to itself for now.
