CBS’ Supergirl series enlists former Kryptonians Dean Cain and Helen Slater

27 February 2015 1:56 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

In a great bit of meta casting, CBS’ Supergirl series has just added former Kryptonians Dean Cain and Helen Slater to its cast. Cain is of course known for his role as Clark Kent/Superman in ABC’s 1990s series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, while slater played Kara Zor-El in the 1984 Supergirl film.

There are, unfortunately, no details about what Cain and Slater’s roles (which are described by TVLine as “top secret” guest spots) may be, and while it’d be fun to speculate that they’ll play the Kryptonian parents of Kara, Laura Benanti has already been cast as Alura Zor-El. So, that’s probably out of the cards. Perhaps they’ll play Kara’s foster parents instead? Who better to parent the new Supergirl than two previous members of the Super family?

We’ll of course have more details about these roles as the news becomes available. »

With several main characters already cast, CBS' Supergirl has added two more actors that many superhero fans will surely get a kick out of. Helen Slater, who played Kara Zor-El in the 1984 Supergirl movie, and Dean Cain, who portrayed Superman in the 1990s TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, have joined the DC Comics adventure series, according to a TV Line report. Unfortunately, the site doesn't specify which characters they will be playing.

Helen Slater and Dean Cain join a burgeoning cast that already includes Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, Mehcad Brooks as Kara's neighbor and co-worker Jimmy Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Kara and Jimmy's employer and CatCo founder Cat Grant, Laura Benanti as Kara's Kryptonian birth mother Alura Zor-El, Chyler Leigh as Kara's foster sister Alex Danvers and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, who, in the DC Comics, eventually becomes Cyborg Superman. Helen Slater And Dean Cain Land Secret Guest Spots On CBS’ Supergirl Series

27 February 2015 11:52 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

CBS’ forthcoming Supergirl series continues to flesh out its growing cast roster with the addition of two surprising – yet familiar – names. TV Line reports that Helen Slater and Dean Cain have boarded the show for what are being described as two “top secret, guest-starring roles.”

This marks the third time each actor has appeared in the Superman-Supergirl canon. Slater first made waves in the titular role for 1984’s Supergirl movie, while Cain portrayed Clark Kent on the small screen in ABC’s long-running series, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Both went on to guest star on The CW’s Superman drama Smallville; the former as Clark’s birth mother Lara, and Cain as Dr. Curtis Knox. For now, the network are keeping the details of their specific roles on Supergirl under wraps.

One thing’s for certain – they won’t be reprising their original franchise roles. Kara »

Nashville Recap: Free for Y'all

In the same way that cockroaches will probably scurry over the Earth long after humanity has winked out of existence, Jeff Fordham spends much of this week’s Nashville not only surviving — but thriving — in the wake of Edgehill Records’ implosion.

In fact, the label’s dissolution, following Rayna’s boardroom visit last week, gives a bunch of our Music City regulars cause for pause. Luke? Will? Layla? None of ‘em had much of my attention in the past, because Deyna, but where they land by the end of the hour sets up some very interesting possibilities for the rest of the season. »

Supergirl: Laura Benanti On Why 'Alura Zor-El' Is So Close In Age To Her Daughter 'Kara'

25 February 2015 6:00 PM, PST | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

When we heard Laura Benanti had been cast in the Supergirl pilot, we were told that her character Alura Zor-El would be a noblewoman who's "wisdom and guidance echoes across space and time, proving invaluable on Kara’s journey toward becoming Supergirl." This (along with the fact that there's only 9 years between the actresses) led fans to believe that we were looking at something similar to a Jor-El/Kal-El dynamic, with the mother guiding the daughter as a memory from beyond the grave. But in an interview with EW, Benanti hints that we'll be looking at more of a parallel time displacement type... thing! "It’s very early on, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying anything other than our mere nine-year age difference will make sense", said the Playboy Club actress when asked what she could tell the site about her role in the CBS series. "On Krypton age doesn’t necessarily matter. »
