Tweeks: Supergirl Cast Interviews Pt 1

8 September 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

If you all aren’t already watching Supergirl, you should.  For Season 2, the show about Kara Zor-El’s life in National City working for Catco Worldwide by day and embracing her superhuman talents to save the world on her off-time will be moving The CW on October 10 at 8pm.  We’re super looking forward to James Olsen, more Deo and Anya mostly can’t wait for more Winn (Jeremy Jordan)!  And we’re absolutely freaking out about the Supergirl & The Flash musical crossover!  We all know Melissa Benoist & Grant Gustin were on Glee, but there’s also Jesse L. Martin (Tom Collins! Rent!), Jeremy Jordan!!! (voice of an angel!) & Carlos Valdes.  We can only pray they can figure out a way to write Alura or Astra in because Laura Benanti is just so magical.

At what was probably the highlight of Comic Con, Anya attended the Supergirl press roundtable and »

How Stephen Colbert's Rnc/DNC Coverage Underlined an Identity Crisis

29 July 2016 7:40 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

National conventions allow political parties to rally their base, establish their agenda and present their presidential nominee in the best light possible. So it proved oddly fitting that Stephen Colbert chose to do two weeks of live broadcasts timed to the Republican and Democratic conventions. After all, not unlike Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, the Late Show host is trying to win over a nation that remains largely uncertain about him.

When CBS announced in April 2014 that Colbert, then riding high with the brilliantly funny The Colbert Report, would replace David Letterman, »

‘The Late Show’ Producer on Stephen Colbert’s Post-Convention Momentum

28 July 2016 5:58 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” executive producer Chris Licht admits he’s “about to collapse” – but that’s a good thing.

Licht says he’s “energized and exhausted at the same time” as “The Late Show” concludes two weeks of live broadcasts timed to the Republican and Democratic conventions. By all accounts, it’s been a success: Critics, some of whom had expressed disappointment with Colbert’s transition from Comedy Central to CBS, are raving about the shows.

And inside “The Late Show,” Licht says, “there’s a nice energy amongst Stephen and the staff. Especially Stephen, who doesn’t read press, he’s getting pure enjoyment out of the shows we’re doing.”

The live telecasts gave Colbert the opportunity to comment, in real time, on each evening’s main speeches and news, giving the show real freshness each night. Colbert also made headlines by dusting off his »

Performer of the Week: Winona Ryder

23 July 2016 8:49 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

The Performer | Winona Ryder

The Show | Stranger Things

The Episode | “The Body” (Episode 4)

The Performance | No one was ever going to mistake Stranger Things‘ high-strung Joyce for someone who has an easy time keeping it together. So we were all the more moved that, when Chief Hopper informed the single mom that her son Will was dead, Ryder made sure we saw her character trying — and trying heartbreakingly hard — to sound reasonable, even as she was explaining how she knew he was still alive.

Joyce had just talked to Will through the Christmas lights, you see. “One blink for yes, »

Watch Rosie O'Donnell Skewer Donald Trump in 'Daily Show' Parody

22 July 2016 11:48 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Rosie O'Donnell exacted some revenge against Donald Trump by narrating a new video that parodies the Republican presidential nominee's rise to power. Like Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal and Harry Truman's Fair Deal before it, Thursday's Daily Show introduced voters to Trump's "Very Very Incredible Deal."

"Earlier tonight, before Donald Trump accepted his party's nomination, delegates viewed a short film about Trump's life work and overall fantastic-ness, and realizing that you may have missed this important information, we bring it to you now, just slightly edited for clarity," Trevor Noah said before introducing the video. »

See Jon Stewart Take Over 'Late Show' to Slam Rnc, Trump, Fox News

Jon Stewart took over the live post-rnc Late Show to unleash his pent-up wrath at Donald Trump, Fox News and the divisive message they're sending America. "I'm not an expert on racial unity but I do believe some of our more vaunted historical leaders in that area did retweet white supremacists less than Trump," Stewart said.

Stewart initially sprang up from behind Colbert's desk to celebrate the ouster of Fox News' Roger Ailes, a longtime nemesis of The Daily Show, but then stuck around and took over hosting duties »

Late-Night’s Winners and Losers During the Republican Convention

21 July 2016 4:04 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The political conventions aren’t just a chance for the two parties to showcase their positions and/or break the ancient seals protecting us from an inter-dimensional apocalypse (“Buffy” warned us about this so many times, but we didn’t listen).

The conventions are also a chance for those in the late-night arena to solidify their followings or, ideally, ascend a few levels on the TV comedy food chain. The week often felt somewhat apocalyptic, and not in a “Supernatural”-finale sort of way, so it took real skill to wring jokes from it all, given the serious issues at play. Shows had to be topical and sharp and yet also acknowledge how odd and even disturbing so many moments were. The bizarreness of each passing hour of each of the last few days is hard to capture, let alone top.

With the caveat that this is only a partial list — it’s not possible to watch »
