Back in February when Rhythm Heaven Fever was released it was a bit of an anomaly for the Wii. It was a game with very simple controls, bright colorful graphics, and an exceptionally catchy soundtrack, but it had nothing to do with motion. By stepping away from the console's signature gameplay mechanic, the development team had the ability to focus on growing the series from its portable predecessors to a larger screen, without being pigeonholed by forcing some kind of waggle integration. With the game on store shelves for almost two months now, we had the chance to reflect on the game and dig a little deeper into its development, and how to preserver over the more challenging mini-games with the franchise's Sound Director, Mr. Masami Yone. Read on to find out his thoughts on the game, its inescapable music, and why Mario might never make an appearance in a Rhythm Heaven game. »

Yup, you’re definitely gonna be looking down some gunsights, shooting foreign dudes in this one.
There’s a new trailer for Medal of Honor: Warfighter and that’s certainly a modern shooter with dudes in brown shooting dudes with brown skin in foreign locales. Sorry to grouse at you first thing in the morning, but the modern shooter landscape is starting to look a little same-y as these games become the Jennifer Aniston rom-coms of gaming: to wit, they all look the same and each one exists on a continuum of increasingly diminishing returns.
Besides looking pretty slick with the level of attention to detail paid to the weapons and locations, I’m not seeing anything here that gets the blood pumping in any particular way.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Players will get up close and personal in Medal of Honor Warfighter.

It's no secret that big screen beauty Scarlett Johansson has a musical side (don't they all?), which she's proved by working with Pete Yorn, Jesus and Mary Chain, TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek and others. Now the starlet's vocal stylings are intersecting with the electronic music world via some very heavy-hitters. Her 2006 cover of George Gershwin standard "Summertime" has been remixed by Massive Attack’s 3D and Dfa’s Tim Goldsworthy as part of the original soundtrack for the upcoming Spanish thriller "Days of Grace," directed by Everardo Valerio Gout. The collection includes a whopping 39 tracks, featuring performances by frequent collaborators Nick »

Without exaggeration, the Halo franchise has been one of Xbox's biggest system sellers. After the announcement that Bungie Studios would be hanging up their green power armor, many gamers have been left wondering what's in store for the Halo universe. We got our answer last E3 with a short debut trailer showing off a newly awakened Master Chief answering a call to action against an unknown and imposing enemy. Since then 343 has taken up the mantle for the next proper franchise entry, ‘Halo 4', and news has been slowly trickling out as it nears its fall launch. We got our quick look at the Chief but one of the best things about Halo, and its sequels, was its amazing sound and score.
News broke this morning, via HaloWaypoint, that Neil Davidge is scoring ‘Halo 4'. You probably know Mr. Davidge best as producing »

"Mexico City. 2002, 2006, 2010. A cop. A hostage. A wife. Corruption, violence, vengeance. Three destinies, during 30 days, during three Soccer World Cups. Three ways to fight in order to survive." This is the synopsis of "Days Of Grace." Starring Eva Longoria, Carlos Bardem (Javier's brother), Miguel Rodarte and Paulina Gaitan, while writer/Director Everardo Gout's first feature doesn't have a U.S. release date yet (it screened out of competition at Cannes last year), it does have a rather interesting soundtrack worth noting and maybe that'll give it extra attention.
Out digitally April 3rd via Lakeshore Records, the soundtrack includes Massive Attack's Robert "3D" Del Naja featuring the one and only sultry-voiced Scarlett Johannsson, (presumably a remix of her "Summertime" George Gerswhin song that she performed on the Unexpected Dreams – Songs From the Stars compilation).

The Marvel Comics character of Ghost Rider has always been more than a little alternative. Considerably darker and more haunted that contemporaries like Spider-Man and the Hulk, the demonic creation of trio Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich and Mike Ploog found himself starring in more horror-centric stories, only ocassionally clashing with sunnier heroes in sales-boosting stunts. While the comic creation existed on the fringe of the industry, Mark Steven Johnson's 2007 adaptation "Ghost Rider" was a far more generic, populist attempt to appeal to the masses. It was, by design, a pop song, except it viewed itself as a catchier Massive Attack track when it was more of an O-Town b-side. Bring the kiddies. Fortunately, the decision to spring for a new creative tream led to "Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance," which, in intention and execution, is pure metal. Within Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's film is the spirit of industrial guitars crashing against each. »

The premiere of Madonna's video for "Give Me All Your Luvin,'" the first single off her new album M.D.N.A., is today, children. It's bound to be a little over-the-top and nutty, like the deranged song itself, and I assume it's not going to live up to the greatest stuff in Madonna's catalog. Then I remember: What does live up to the best stuff in Madonna's catalog? Turns out, not much. Madonna's repertoire is a varied and thundering collection of self-empowering pop ditties, soulful ballads, and kooky little anomalies. And they're mostly all irreplaceable. In the tradition of Rolling Stone, who listed their 100 Greatest Beatles Songs a couple years ago, let's reinspect Madonna's complete history and name her definitive 100 jams. Ready? Now this is impressive stuff, folks. It’s an excellent and well-made opening title sequence by one Doğan Can Gündoğdu for Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”. I don’t even want to think about the time it took him to come up with all those background images and newspaper clippings, much less shoot and edit it. It’s also reminiscent (inspired by?) the opening title sequence of David Fincher’s “Seven”, which was directed by Kyle Cooper (also included below). The idea, I think, is that someone’s getting ready to do something very bad, and this is all part of his/her/its research. I think you can guess whose Pov we’re looking at this from by the end. Besides Doğan Can Gündoğdu, the animation and modeling is by Günışığı Cihangir, and featuring the music ff Massive Attack (“Suck Me Up Dub”). Dude’s definitely got »

HBO's "Luck" is a show that is trying to do a lot of things and nothing all at once. The characters speak all the time, in all different accents, but they're not really saying much, and whatever they do say is never what they really mean. The bulk of "Luck" -- a show that's about horse racing, on the surface -- is that there's nothing that "surface" about it. Subtext is the mantra, so if you're not into working hard to be entertained, this one might not excite you right away.
But they say slow and steady wins the race, and while "Luck" definitely starts out slow, with a cast and a pedigree this strong and a premise that has plenty worth exploring, I'm hoping it can speed up to a gallop sooner rather than later in its first season (premieres Sun., Jan. 29 at 9 p.m. Est on HBO).
