Forget Plagiarism – Did Melania Trump Rickroll Us With Her Rnc Speech? (Video)

19 July 2016 7:38 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Melania Trump is facing allegations of plagiarism for her Monday speech at the Republican National Convention, but it appears she also borrowed lines from Rick Astley’s classic song “Never Gonna Give You Up.” “He will never, ever give up. And, most importantly, he will never, ever, let you down,” the former model said at the podium in Cleveland. It’s too bad her next line wasn’t, “He will never run around or desert you,” but the reference is still too obvious to ignore. Rick-rolling is a common Internet prank involving Astley’s 1987 pop hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” as a bait-and-switch, »

Republican National Convention 2016: Melania Trump Offers Her First-Lady Vision, The Donald Co-Opts Queen

18 July 2016 8:30 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Preparing for potential first lady Melania Trump’s speech on the opening night of the Republican National Convention, a small, silly, snarky part of me was hoping she’d use the primetime exposure to promote the “timepieces and fashion jewelry” she sells at MelaniaTrump.com. #MakeAmericaElegantAgain

Nothing that spectacularly crazy happened, I’m sorry/pleased to report. Unless, of course, you caught the part of Melania’s talk that sounded eerily like the chorus to Rick Astley’s greatest hit. “He will never, ever give up, and most importantly, »

Five Directors Who Could Direct ‘Top Gun 2’

7 July 2016 6:57 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

As you may have determined, there will be a Top Gun sequel at some point in the very near future. Jerry Bruckheimer teased an image with Tom Cruise a little while ago via his Twitter account, but since then things have gone a little bit quiet.

Cruise is currently shooting The Mummy for Universal and then he’ll reprise his role as Ethan Hunt in a sixth Mission: Impossible movie for Paramount. In between he’ll hit the road to promote the Jack Reacher sequel and then, hopefully, we hope he’ll turn his attention to Top Gun 2 – after all, the original film is thirty years old next year.

What we haven’t considered is who will direct it. As we all know, Tony Scott sadly passed away a couple of years ago, and his legendary shoes are going to be really difficult to fill.

How ‘Rick and Morty’ Creators Animated Trippy ‘Back to the Future’ Riff for Adults (Emmy Watch)

21 June 2016 11:39 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

While animated sci-fi series “Rick and Morty” began as a hallucinatory “Back to the Future” riff, in its second season on Adult Swim it’s turned more Philip K. Dick in its trippy embrace of alternate realities and alien worlds. Sociopathic scientist Rick Sanchez enlists naive grandson Morty in a series of mind-bending, intergalactic adventures, putting their dysfunctional family in continuous peril.

For creators Justin Roiland (“Adventure Time” voice actor) and Dan Harmon (“Community” creator), the first season was all about the crazy inventions, while the second concentrated more on exploration. “We’re trying to make sure that we never paint ourselves into a corner conquering the nihilism of an infinite universe,” said Harmon.

The comedy is both smart and low-brow with scattered sci-fi and other pop cultural references along with plenty of sex and scatological humor.

The flat animation style, meanwhile, evokes both “The Simpsons” and “The Ren & Stimpy Show. »

Switzerland: Up Next! Nicolas Steiner

“A festival treasure that treats its subjects with a dignity that transcends judgment and a poetic sensibility that ranks it among the year’s most remarkable cinematic discoveries,” Variety’s Peter Debruge wrote of “Above and Below,” Nicolas Steiner’s graduation film at Germany’s Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, rating it among his top ten movies of 2015.

5 Reasons Why 'Angry Birds' Crushed the Competition at the Box Office

22 May 2016 9:00 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

So much for the three-peat.

"Captain America: Civil War" could have come out on top for the third straight weekend. It could even have lost 45 percent of last weekend's business (when it earned $72.6 million) and still outdistanced this weekend's three new wide releases. Even after three weeks, you might still have expected the Marvel mega-movie to outdistance three seemingly-undistinguished newcomers: a period action comedy starring no-longer-a-box-office-draw Russell Crowe and never-really-a-box-office-draw Ryan Gosling; a Seth Rogen comedy sequel, and a cartoon based on an app that everyone thought was really cool six years ago.

Nonetheless, "The Angry Birds Movie" knocked down "Captain America," along with "The Nice Guys" (pictured) and "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising," as easily as a short stack of pigs. The cartoon earned an estimated $39.0 million, about $1 million more than distributor Sony had predicted. "Civil War" had to settle for second, with an estimated $33.1 million (down 54 percent from a »

ABC Orders Comedies ‘Downward Dog,’ ‘Imaginary Mary’ and ‘Second Fattest Housewife’

12 May 2016 4:00 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

ABC has ordered three new comedies to series, “Imaginary Mary,” “Downward Dog,” and the project formerly known as “The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport,” now known as Untitled Sarah Dunn.

The live action/CGI hybrid “Imaginary Mary” centers around Alice (Jenna Elfman, “Dharma & Greg”) a fiercely independent career woman whose life is turned upside-down when she meets the love of her life — a divorced father with three kids. This triggers even more upheaval when the slightly unhinged imaginary friend she created as a child suddenly reappears to help her navigate the transition from single girl to a woman ready for a family.

The series also stars Stephen Schneider as Ben, Rachel Dratch as the titular imaginary friend Mary, Nicholas Coombe as Andy, Matreya Scarrwener as Dora and Erica Trembay as Bunny.

The series hails from “The Goldbergs” writers and exec producers Adam F. Goldberg and David Guarascio, and exec producer Doug Robinson. »

Castle Recap: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

4 April 2016 8:20 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

When it comes to Castle‘s Ryan-, Esposito- or RySpo-centric episodes, the reactions tend to be mixed — those who judge the episode based on its own merits versus those who bristle against anything that steals Caskett time. But given how Season 8 as a whole has been a, um, special animal when it comes to  Rick/Kate interactions, perhaps this look at a romantic blast from Javy’s past will be assessed more fairly.
