If you're looking for a new show to binge-watch over the holiday break, we highly recommend Godless.
Set in the 1880s, the limited, seven-episode Netflix series puts an interesting twist on the Western genre, bringing the women to the forefront and detailing the hardships Americans faced at the time in an original way. Featuring breathtaking cinematography and truly fascinating characters like crazed outlaw Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels) and his protege turned enemy, Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell), it's hard not to find yourself enamored in the show from beginning to end… even if you're not typically a fan of Westerns.
Godless highlights the town of La Belle, New Mexico, whose male population was almost completely wiped out by a mining disaster, leaving the ladies in charge to fend for themselves and their families. Newcomer Audrey Moore, who portrays Sarah Doyle, tells Et it was "a dream" to pay homage to the Western frontier women, and be a part...

Irish-born Hollywood star known for playing fiery heroines happy to stand up to men
In the early 1950s the prevailing image of Maureen O’Hara, who has died aged 95, was one of a feisty heroine, red hair blazing, who was more than a match for her male co-stars. Big John “Duke” Wayne, whom she partnered in five films, said of her: “I’ve had many male friends in my life except for one, O’Hara; and she’s a great guy.” The great director John Ford, with whom she also worked so often, referred to her as “a man’s kind of woman”.
In The Quiet Man (1952), Ford’s Irish pastoral-romantic-comedy, the blue-bloused, scarlet-skirted, bare-footed O’Hara, as Mary Kate Danaher, is first seen by Wayne as she tends her sheep. “Hey, is that real?” he asks. “She couldn’t be.” At their second meeting Wayne tries to kiss her,...

“I just love listening to Wolfman. My Mom won’t let me at home. Because he’s a Negro. I think he’s terrific!”
American Graffiti will screen in 35mm at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium Friday February 20th at 7:30pm. The screening will be introduced by Webster University Professor Joe Schuster.
You can have all the Star Wars movies, Episodes One through whatever – I’ll trade them all straight up for American Graffiti and consider myself as having got the best end of the deal.
American Graffiti (1973) was only George Lucas’ second major film as a director (though he was already plenty experienced at filmmaking) and it is an extraordinary movie that has aged wonderfully. American Graffiti chronicles one long night in the lives of some recent high school graduates in a north California in 1962. But it’s not just a look at the teenage ritual of cruising.

We're half-way through the final season of HBO's "True Blood," so this is as good a time as any for a celebratory Comic-Con send-off. Saturday's (July 26) Ballroom 20 panel is being moderated by the same guy who has moderated nearly all of the previous "True Blood" panels, so... I guess we know what to expect! Anyway, it's one vampire to another, as I just wrapped my live-blog for "The Vampire Diaries." Woo. 5:04 p.m. We begin with a clip reel of "True Blood" stars saying "Good-bye." And now they're going to do it in person. 5:06 p.m. Our panel: Nathan Parsons, The Lovely Deborah Ann Woll, Nelsan Ellis, Carrie Preston, Chris "Comic-Con Virgin" Bauer, Anna Camp, Brian Buckner, Kristin Bauer Van Straten, Rutina Wesley, Sam Trammell, Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin. The loudest reaction, by a wide margin, was for Kristin Bauer van Straten, if you're curious. 5:07 p.

The latest instalment of True Blood was an outright emotional rollercoaster. The episode mostly had two settings throughout that went back to back, scene by scene from Terry’s funeral to Vamp Camp, with both rearing up some pretty strong emotions but in completely different ways. By indication of the black suits and growing dead body count, we knew it was going to be a pretty dark episode.
The episode opened with Bill and Sooki standing over Warlows drained body attempting to come to some sort of agreement on how to handle it, Bill staying true to his bad ass Billith self says “what little blood he has left, I need it”. Thank goodness Bill is now starting to mean business, I am unsure on the purity of his motives though and whether his desire to drain the rest of Warlow was for the sake of...

True Blood, Season 6 – Episode 9: “Life Matters”
Directed by Romeo Tirone
Written by Brian Buckner
Airs Sunday nights at 9 on HBO
If anyone sticks around after an episode of True Blood finishes to see the “inside the episode” segment, then you’ll have seen one of the powers-at-be talk about how “Life Matters” is one instance of True Blood taking time to feel something, which hasn’t really been the show’s style ever. This is a fast-moving story (to a fault, sometimes), so you wouldn’t have been wrong to have expected there not to be much done about Terry’s death in the wake of that event. How wrong you would have been, though. “Life Matters” has at its centerpiece Terry’s funeral, which drew out a whole range of reactions – some expected, some incredibly surprising.
Beginning with the surprising, “Life Matters” really did follow through on making the viewer feel.

"Thank you, Big John," the widow Bellefleur hugged the Merlotte's short-order cook at her husband's funeral. "That was the shit." And so too, was "Life Matters," a True Blood episode for the ages. This series has always been a study in contrasts, mixing horror, drama, and comedy like a fast food chemist combines sugar, fat, and salt. (The results in both cases can range from wholly satisfying to straight-up disgusting.) But "Life Matters" took its contrasting elements and really tested the limits of what an average True Blood viewer might put up with.First of all, yes, it definitely gave us the thrilling, intensely satisfying climax to the vampire camp plotline, but it also asked us to patiently observe the understated, plot-free pathos of a small town mourning a third-tier character. Depending on your affection for the Bon Temps microcosm True Blood had gotten away from over the past few seasons,...

“I really don’t see what was the point of that,” says a woman (who I presume is Terry’s mother) after Big John sings a prolonged dirge. Terry was laid to rest this week, as his friends and family took turns sharing how much the man meant to them. Elsewhere on "Life Matters," Eric and Bill each helped put an end to the vampire camp.
Terry's death was tragic, but his funeral was a testament to all the lives he touched. Through the series of flashbacks, we were reminded just how broken a man Terry was when he returned from the war. Bon Temps has seen more than its share of death in recent years, but tonight we witnessed how some bonds are able to survive even the most troubled of times. Just about every person who spoke on Terry's behalf has been through their own personal hell over the years.
As they spoke about their fallen friend, we saw just how strong they each have become through their perseverance.

Little-known fact: Ever since the anti-Commie masterpiece "Red Dawn" debuted in 1984 with the first-ever PG-13 rating, the MPAA has rationed out F-bombs to PG-13 movies like a master offering up gruel to orphans in a Dickens novel — one per.
Of course, the MPAA being the shady, Illuminati-like organization that it is, the rule is subject to their strange, nonsensical whims, and occasionally more than one is allowed in, or none at all. But for the most part, it stands that PG-13 writers and directors have to reserve their "f**ks" for the best moment possible.
With that in mind, we've assembled a list of movies that put their F-bombs-in-hole to the best use.
20. 'The Wedding Singer' (1998)
"But it all was bulls***! It was a goddamn joke! And when I think of you, Linda, I hope you f**king choke!" — Robbie Hart

Philadeplhia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy might be in some serious trouble.
TMZ reports that the NFL star has been sued by a woman who claims that he humiliated and assaulted her on a party bus before leaving her on the side of the road on the New Jersey Turnpike. The woman, using the alias "Mary Roe," claims in her suit that McCoy invited 15 women to join him on the bus as it went from Philly to a NYC nightclub on Dec. 18, 2012.
As the trip was underway, the suit alleges that McCoy, with the help of his bodyguard and a few other men, began spraying some of the women with water. Roe claims she protested this, prompting McCoy to order his bodyguard, Big John, to "get her."

For those not already in the know, the "Olympus" in the movie title "Olympus Has Fallen" is the official code name for the White House. That being the case, MTV News sat down with the cast recently and simply had to ask them if they had their own code names.
They answered, and we graded them.
Angela Bassett is Code Name: Get Me Out of Here
It's not exactly the kind of badass code name we were going for, but we respect that Bassett is being true to herself with her moniker. B+
Aaron Eckhart is Code Name: Big John
For such an odd code name, we wonder why it was so easy for Eckhart to come up with it. Is his Big John on weekends? C-
Dylan McDermott is Code Name: Fortune Cookie
"You open him up, you never know what you get," Ricky Yune explains. That is what we're talking about.

Author Gene O'Neill is a man with a plan. That plan is to write and get paid. He hopes that readers begin to recognize his work and seek him out. He certainly has the skill set having graduated from Clarion in a class filled with, what are now, successful writers. But he was sidetracked along the way because the one thing more important to him than writing is family. But now he is back on track and I was able to sit down with him in late 2012 at Dark Delicacies and have an extensive conversation.
One of the first things you wrote that sticks in my head was the Burden of Indigo short story in Twilight Zone Magazine in 1981. What had you done prior to that that made you think "Hey, I can write short stories"?

On Saturday afternoon in Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center, Quentin Tarantino and the cast of the (admittedly, pretty terrific looking) "Django Unchained" presented an eight-minute sizzle reel of footage to a quite enthusiastic Comic-Con crowd. You know what? Let's just get to it: Here are the eight most badass things we saw at the "Django Unchained" Comic-Con panel.
Boy, that sizzle reel will awaken a very tired human being.
We'll get to the details of the sizzle real, but, as someone who has had very little sleep over the last fews day while covering Comic-Con, I left that panel with a burst of adrenaline. Good lord, whether you're a fan of Quentin Tarantino or not ... the man knows how to cut a sizzle reel.
Speaking of Quentin Tarantino ...
The man also knows how to play to the Comic-Con crowd; he's well aware that hese are his people.

A Second full-length trailer has gone online for The Amazing Spider-Man, revealing a lot of previously unseen material for the upcoming reboot starring Andrew Garfield and directed by Marc Webb.
Sony describes the new clip - which you can watch below - as the main international trailer, suggesting there will not be any more footage released before the movie comes out on July 3 in the USA and July 4 in the UK.
A couple of new images from the film have also been made available, offering the first official look at Rhys Ifans' character Dr Curt Connors after his transformation into the Lizard.
In one image he is attacking Irrfan Khan's character Dr Ratha, in the other we see the Lizard's clawed hand clutching Peter Parker's camera.
Earlier images of the villain led to much fanboy fretting that the Lizard wasn't wearing the lab coat traditionally seen in the comic book artwork.

Collider have just posted a lengthy interview with The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, in which he discusses many aspects of the movie - including casting, special effects, and the new trailer. But what caught my eye was the excerpt below, as Webb reveals the reasons behind the particular look he went with for the villain of the movie, The Lizard.. There’s a lot that goes into it. When we shot those sequences, we actually shot a human. There was a guy named Big John, who is literally this big guy named John, who did a lot of the interactive stuff. When you’re trying to interact with Peter [Parker], you need someone grabbing him and to do those things, and then we would replace him with the computer-generated lizard. But then, the performance capture was done with Rhys [Ifans]. We would shoot Rhys in a similar environment...

Considering the breakout success of VH1's Mob Wives, it only makes sense that a spin-off would get in the works. Details have been sketchy about Mob Wives: Chicago, currently still filming, and that included the potential cast list. Names had been floated out and rumored about, but now the network has given prospective fans the names of the women they'll come to know, love, hate, or love-to-hate in the upcoming months.
Though not given a concrete premiere date, Mob Wives: Chicago will debut sometime in spring with five new wives, up from the four that Mob Wives started out with. (The latter currently has six wives and a deep bench of friends and family members.) Listed below are the names and descriptions (via press release) of each new wife, with Twitter accounts linked where applicable.

In the final piece of the Django Unchained casting puzzle, Quentin Tarantino has secured Sacha Baron Cohen to play a small but significant role in his new black slavery/Spaghetti Western revenge film.
The versatile Brit is playing Scott Harmony, the as written overweight and shy 24 year old son of a rich daddy who buys him the slave Broomhilda in a bid to cure his confidence issues. Obviously Cohen is anything but overweight and he turned 40 this year so they’ll be a few tweaks from the screenplay and I’m sure the two eccentrics Cohen & Tarantino will have fun together crafting this character. His screen time will be minimal but as written it’s my favourite scene in the whole film (it revolves around a card game with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie) and Tarantino knows the part is a good one and has been searching for a memorable face to play it.

Week after week, the casting of Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film Django Unchained is inching nearer to completion as we close in on its November production start date. Recently we learned that Kurt Russell would be replacing Kevin Costner in the role of Ace Woody, the right hand man of villain Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). Since then we've seen a few more smaller roles filled out by the likes of Don Johnson, M.C. Gainey and FX guru Tom Savini. Now this week yet another actor is reportedly in talks to join the film: Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Variety reports that he intends to take the part, but he has some scheduling issues to work out before he can fully commit. Word on the street is that the scheduling conflict has arisen from his press obligations for the bike messenger thriller Premium Rush, which hits theatres in January. However, just hours after this news story hit the web,...

When Robert Duvall landed a role in One Shot that was accompanied with a vague description, some began to assume that he would be playing the villain of the piece. Turns out that someone else has this part — and it’s the last person you’d expect. As Variety informs us, the main antagonist to go up against Tom Cruise is none other than legendary German filmmaker Werner Herzog.
I’ll just assume that everyone reading this knows who he is — or is at least familiar with his now-trademark voice — so I can just say that this is a peculiar choice. Herzog has never had a major acting role before, with most of his performances being restricted to minor work in Harmony Korine movies. For him to really start in a Tom Cruise thriller — it’s odd; but also wonderful. Writer and director Christopher McQuarrie has wanted to work with him for some time,...

Today is one of those insane days where everyone is being cast in something, rumors are flying, and yet we lack enough information to wax poetic on every piece of information. That's why it's all going into Casting Bits today. So, read on and catch up... Rose McGowan is set to star in a romantic thriller called "Napa", which will be the feature film debut of writer-producer Michael Kerr. Based on Hans Ostrom's novel "Three to Get Ready," it will feature McGowan "playing a woman who after three tours of duty in Afghanistan returns to her hometown, where she is given the job of sheriff." I'm not sure where the romance or the thriller angle comes in, but I do know "Three to Get Ready" sounds like a thriller, whereas "Napa" sounds like it's about wine country. I also know McGowan hasn't done three tours in Afghanistan. [The Hollywood Reporter] M.C. Gainey (aka Mr.

[1] M.C. Gainey, a.k.a. Mr. Friendly on Lost, has entered negotiations to star in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained as what sounds like one of the nastiest characters in a film filled with vile characters. Gainey is up for the part of Big John Brittle, an overseer at the Carrucan Plantation who sets the plot in motion by raping Django's wife Broomhilda and branding Django's cheek with the letter 'R' (for "runaway"). Django (Jamie Foxx) goes on to team up with Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a German bounty hunter interested in the large reward on Big John, to free his wife from the clutches of villainous plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, and Laura Cayouette are also signed on to star in the "Southern-fried spaghetti Western," while Kurt Russell is in talks [2] to replace Kevin Costner as Candie's right-hand man Ace Woody. M.C. Gainey ("Lost," "Justified") is in negotiations to play Big John Brittle in Quentin Tarantino's revenge western "Django Unchained" at The Weinstein Company says Variety.
The story follows a slave named Django (Jamie Foxx) in the Old South who teams with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to search for his wife.
Gainey's 'Big John' is a key character in the action - he rapes Django's wife and brands Django's cheek with the letter 'R' (which stands for 'runaway'). Django teams with Waltz's character to find Big John and his two brothers.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher and Laura Cayouette also star.

You might not recognise the name, but you'll definitely know the face. Yep, M.C Gainey is a classic 'that guy' and he's just joined Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. He'll be playing Big John Brittle, one of the outlaws who Jamie Foxx's Django hunts down during his revenge mission. It's a small part (though much bigger than Gainey's 'Man Behind Man' credit in De Niro's The Fan) but significant, and Gainey will be perfect for it. A small casting update on Django Unchained came in from Variety last night who reported that M.C. Gainey, who you will most likely know either as Bo Crowder on Justified, or as Tom Friendly in Lost, will play one of the three Brittle brother outlaws in Quentin Tarantino’s new spaghetti western/black slavery revenge thriller. Specifically, Gainey will play Big John Brittle and it’s a small but significant part and Quentin has wisely cast an actor who can do a great deal with little screen time.
Another interesting note on the movie came in from The Hollywood Reporter on Friday (picked up by The Playlist) who said that Christoph Waltz has dislocated his pelvic bone whilst going through pre-production training with a horse. I guess he’s probably never been in a film where he has had to ride one.

Quentin Tarantino has created some seriously evil villains in the past, from Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs to Stuntman Mike in Death Proof, but the sadistic asshole Big John Brittle in the upcoming Django Unchained may prove to be the worst one yet. Today it was announced that the director may have found someone to play him. Variety reports that M.C. Gainey, a character actor best known for his roles in movies like Con Air and TV shows like Lost, is now in talks to play Brittle in Tarantino's "southern." Nefarious acts committed by the character include branding Django's (Jamie Foxx) cheek with the letter "R" (standing for runaway) and raping his wife, Broomhilda. Hollywood might scoff at the Oscar hopeful's self-financed ad, but it's only an honest way of playing the usual game
The message reads "Consider...". Below it, we see Melissa Leo looking positively, well, leonine. Or cougar-like, as the jargon might have it. To the untrained eye, this image – inserted by Leo into the Hollywood trade press this week as a full-page advert – resembles the mock-ups with which an ad agency might make the unsuccessful pitch for an account with a perfume company.
This is, of course, Leo's eccentric, self-financed attempt to swing votes her way for the best supporting actress Oscar. Hollywood is sniggering its head off. My colleague Jon Henley contributed an erudite short history of self-promotion the other day. He said it tends to backfire, and others seem to agree: Leo is reported to have hurt her chances by, as she might put it herself, "self-pimping".
