Leonardo Polverino
- Director
- Writer
- Producer
Leonardo Polverino was born in 1956 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After
completing his studies he attended to the Escuela Superior de
Cinematografia directed by Manlio Pereyra and was the first to graduate
as a film director in that film school. His short films ("Cuestion de
principios" (1981) and "El abejero" (1982) gained many prizes, but
Polverino was more concerned about his style which took shape as
surrealism in his first feature De que estamos hechos (1987). With no distributors behind
the production the film was not released in local theatres and was sent
abroad.
Meanwhile Polverino worked for many years, as a film professor in the Instituto Nacional de Cine y Arte Audiovisuales, then called CERC. In 1994 Polverino released his first major documentary Historia del cine mundial (1994), which gave him overnight fame. The second one Historia del cine argentino (1995), followed the same line, but it also included the personal testimonies of many technicians of the Argentine film industry.
Polverino completed all these documentaries with similar subjects as the story of television and documentaries. Today he still films fiction, documentaries and continues giving film lessons in his Academy.
