Manhattan: Season One Ratings

Wgn America is still very new to producing their original scripted series so it's hard to know what they consider a ratings success. Salem was renewed for a second season. Will the new Manhattan series be renewed as well or will it be cancelled? We'll have to wait and see.

Set in 1943, Manhattan follows the residents of a secret town of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hidden away by the federal government, scientists live there with their families while they work to build the world's first atomic bomb. The cast includes John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Alexia Fast, Ashley Zukerman, Rachel Brosnahan, Daniel Stern, Katja Herbers, Christopher Denham, Harry Lloyd, Michael Chernus, Eddie Shin, Daniel London, and Mark Moses.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival.

Michael Chernus, Alexia Fast, and Eddie Shin Talk Manhattan, Their Research Process, Filming in Santa Fe, and More

What happens if you round up the nation's most brilliant scientific minds, seclude them in a makeshift city in the middle of the desert, and drown their lives in secrecy?  These are the questions addressed in Manhattan, the new historical drama from creator Sam Shaw (Masters of Sex) and director Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing).  Manhattan offers a semi-fictionalized version of the infamous Manhattan Project - the clandestine research and development project that resulted in the creation of the atomic bomb.  While the events of the show are based on history, Manhattan largely steers clear of iconic figures like J. Robert Oppenheimer and Leslie Groves, and focuses instead on the interpersonal drama between fictitious characters as they contend with the costs of secrecy and isolation. I recently visited the set in Santa Fe, New Mexico where the labs, homes, and barracks of Los Alamos have been recreated from the ground up.

The Debut Trailer For Wgn’s Drama Series Manhattan Has Arrived

We’re in desperate need of a new dramatic period piece to fill the void that’s been left by Mad Men, which is currently on an annoyingly long hiatus between halves of its final season. Luckily, Wgn may have just what we need, as seen by the debut trailer for their enticing new drama series, Manhattan.

Manhattan chronicles the lives of the men who worked secretly on the famous Manhattan Project in Lost Alamos, New Mexico in the 1940s, and how building the first atomic bomb behind closed doors affected their lives and families. The series was created and written by Masters of Sex alum Sam Shaw, with The West Wing and Parenthood director Thomas Schlamme at the helm. John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Daniel Stern, Ashley Zuckerman, Rechel Brosnahan, Katja Herbers, Alexia Fast, Christopher Denham, Harry Lloyd, Michael Chernus and Eddie Shin star.

Manhattan Trailer: Wgn’s New Drama Series Chronicles the Making of the First Atomic Bomb

Wgn has released the debut Manhattan trailer for the network’s upcoming drama series about the making of the world’s first atomic bomb. While I was initially as skeptical of a Wgn drama series as you probably are, this trailer actually doesn’t look half-bad. Moreover, the show has veteran director Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing, Parenthood, Sports Night) at the helm and Masters of Sex alum Sam Shaw as the creator and writer. The story takes place in 1940s Los Alamos, New Mexico and revolves around the men working secretly on the Manhattan Project as well as the toll it takes on their lives and family. The Manhattan Project is really one of the most fascinating stories in modern history, and while there are a few moments of melodrama in this first trailer, it looks like a pretty promising take on the subject matter. Hit the jump to watch the first Manhattan trailer.
