We pick from over 200 episodes of CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother to select the 10 funniest...

When How I Met Your Mother came to a final close almost two years ago, it’s fair to say opinion was divided on the ultimate resolution to Ted Mosby’s nine year, epic romance. Some viewers felt a tad cheated that creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas pulled what was seen as a ‘cop out’ ending.  Personally, I didn’t hate the final episode but that doesn't mean it's going to be on this list either.

How I Met Your Mother amassed a total of 208 episodes and this list is devoted to its 10 finest transmissions. Like any show that runs for so long, there were the expected dips in quality over How I Met Your Mother's life span. When whittling down choices, not a single episode of the »

AMC's "Badlands," PBS' "Mercy" Renewed

9 March 2016 10:09 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Its good news for two new period dramas.

Looking to fill the hole left by "Downton Abbey," PBS has ordered a second season of its original series "Mercy Street". The Civil War-era drama will return for a six-episode second season in 2017.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Josh Radnor star in the show, PBS' first original drama in more than a decade, which opened to 3.3 million viewers in January. That's a long way from 'Downton' whose finale the other week pulled in an average of 9.6 million viewers.

Meanwhile AMC has renewed its martial arts western "Into the Badlands" for a ten-episode second season to air in 2017. That's up from the six episodes of the first which averaged 5.6 million viewers per episode - making it the third highest-rated first season in U.S. cable TV history.

‘Mercy Street’ Renewed for Season 2 by PBS

9 March 2016 7:28 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Mercy Street” has a longer road ahead of it.

PBS has renewed the drama — its first original scripted production in more than a decade — for a second season, the public broadcaster said Wednesday.

“We are thrilled with the overwhelmingly positive response to ‘Mercy Street’ and the return of high-quality American drama on PBS stations,” said Beth Hoppe, PBS chief programming officer and general manager, general audience programming, in a prepared statement. “We’re looking forward to a second season offering more fascinating stories inspired by historical events. The effort from everyone involved, including the producers, directors, historical consultants, actors and PBS stations, resulted in an extraordinary series that exemplifies PBS’ world-class programming.”

PBS may be in search of a new flagship drama. The very popular “Downton Abbey” recently concluded, leaving the broadcaster in search of a new scripted property around which to rally.

TV Review: ‘Mercy Street’

13 January 2016 11:00 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Mercy Street” tries to be a lot of things at once: It’s a historical exploration of the divided loyalties of the Civil War, a costume drama with mild comic elements, an occasionally harrowing medical saga, and a coming-of-age story for several of its lead protagonists. At times, the show’s attempts to knit these strands into a unified whole get tangled or frayed, but its cast is generally quite good, and for aficionados of period pieces and 19th century history, “Mercy Street” offers a number of enticements.

Be forewarned, however: There will be blood. The drama shows characters boozing, taking drugs, having sex and cutting into diseased flesh — but this is still PBS, and nothing is inserted just for shock value. That said, one or two “Mercy Street” medical interventions may cause the queasy to look away. Along with “The Knick,” “A Young Doctor’s Notebook” and elements of “Outlander, »
