I am Luis Uranga Morales, an artist and animator from the rural town of Aldama Chihuahua, Mexico. Growing up in a small town instilled in me a sense of pride in my Mexican heritage, which continues to influence my work to this day.
For me, being Mexican is about being an amalgamation of different races and cultures. Our history is rich with indigenous roots, European influences, and even traces of African and Asian heritage. As a result, being a race mix is something that connects all Mexicans regardless of our background. It's this diversity that makes us unique and something that I'm proud to represent in my work.
After studying Industrial Design at ITESM (Instituto de Estudios Superiores del Tecnológico de Monterrey) , I realized that my true passion lay in art and animation for video games. I honed my skills at Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology in Toronto Canada, where I learned everything from 3D modeling to look development and grooming for characters.
Over the years, I've become a bit of a jack of all trades, dabbling in other departments like rigging, animation, face replacement, and sculpting. This versatility has served me well in my career, allowing me to work on a variety of projects and expand my qualifications.
One of my proudest achievements was working for the legendary Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, whom I have admired for many years. Thanks to a bit of luck and chance encounters, I had the honor of working for del Toro on several occasions.
Looking to the future, my ultimate goal is to become a director myself. With my diverse qualifications and passion for storytelling, I believe I have what it takes to make a name for myself in the animation industry. But it's not just about me - I also wish for my country to become a new home of a new generation of directors. Mexico has a rich history and culture that's just waiting to be brought to life on the big screen, and I believe that I can help make that happen.
I follow the saying of "jack of all trades" and strive to continuously learn and improve in all aspects of my craft. Whether it's 3D modeling, animation, or directing, I'm always up for a new challenge and eager to push my skills to the limit. Together, let's create a new wave of Mexican cinema and bring our stories to the world, celebrating the unique mix of cultures that makes us who we are.
