Macaulay Culkin may be past his "Home Alone" days, but the franchise lives on. ABC Family has just announced that "Home Alone 5: Alone In The Dark" is in the works.
The fourth installment of "Home Alone," "Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House," was also made for television, premiering on ABC in November 2002, while the first three films -- two of which starred Culkin -- had theatrical debuts.
The "Home Alone 5" will star Christian Martyn as Finn, an 8-year-old boy who moves from California to a creepy house in Maine, which he is convinced is haunted by a ghost.
Determined to catch the ghost in action, Finn sets up a series of traps. But, in true "Home Alone" style, the traps are beneficial in an unexpected way. They end up catching a group of thieves who try to break in while Finn and his sister are left home alone »

Following recent reports that production on the big screen feature is being delayed due to scheduling, budgetary and other issues, Kiefer Sutherland — aka Jack Bauer — confirmed Thursday night on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno that “we’re still trying” to get the film made.

Assuming this won’t be some sort of insane hybrid of beloved holiday classic Home Alone and Uwe Boll “masterpiece” Alone in the Dark, ABC Family has announced that they will air the fifth installment in the Home Alone franchise, titled Home Alone 5: Alone in the Dark. (On second thought, that would be sort of amazing.)

ABC Family has announced that production has begun on the fifth installment in the "Home Alone" franchise. The new movie stars Malcolm McDowell, Edward Asner, Debi Mazar, Eddie Steeples and Christian Martyn. It is set to premiere as part of network's annual "25 Days of Christmas." In "Home Alone 5: Alone in the Dark," 8-year-old Finn (Martyn) is terrified to learn his family is relocating from sunny California to Maine, and the scariest house he has ever seen. Convinced that his new house is haunted, Finn sets up a series of elaborate traps to catch the "ghost" in action. - Fresh off her cameo as an idiot on "30 Rock's" season premiere, Denise Richards has signed on to the cast of Lifetime's remake of "The Blue Lagoon." The original 1980 movie starred Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins as scantily-clad teenage lovers stranded on a tropical island. Richards won't be reprising Shields' role. Instead, she'll play a mother desperately searching for her missing daughter who, unlike her sexting peers, is apparently holed up on an island 1980s style. It's the gift that just keeps on giving! Some 22 years after the original Home Alone hit theatres and turned Macaulay Culkin into a superstar, production on the fifth installment in the Home Alone series is now underway, targeting a holiday 2012 release. Culkin, of course, dropped out of the franchise after the immediate follow-up, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, with Home Alone 3 starring some other kid (but still being written by John Hughes, believe it or not). Many people probably aren't even aware that there was a Home Alone 4, but it was made for TV and released back in 2002. Let's be honest, the Home Alone franchise has been dead ever since Alex D. Linz tried to sit in for Macaulay Culkin as an all new character defending his house against criminals in Home Alone 3. A young Scarlett Johansson even appears in that film, but she probably wants to forget that as much as we do. Since then another terrible sequel with a new young actor bringing Kevin McCallister back into the mix and new burglars featuring French Stewart, but nobody has really been paying attention. The first film poster for director David Guy Levy's Would You Rather has arrived and character Iris looks a little distressed. In the film, Brittany Snow plays Iris who is a woman trapped by financial circumstances. Her only way out is to play a dangerous game developed by a wealthy but sadistic aristocrat. In this modern version of "Would You Rather" the stakes are high and potentially life threatening. Jeffrey Combs (The Dunwich Horror), Sasha Grey ("Entourage") and Eddie Steeples also star in this thriller, which has recently completed production.
