Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff Signs Up For Terror In Oculus

21 September 2012 6:20 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

"Mirror mirror on the wall, why did you murder my parents?" That's the strange question at the center of the upcoming supernatural horror movie from Intrepid Pictures titled Oculus. Inspired by writing team Mike Flanagan and Jeff Seidman's award-winning short Oculus: Chapter 3 . The Man with the Plan, this creepy feature centers on a woman trying to prove it wasn't her beloved brother who slaughtered her loving parents a decade ago; it was a haunted mirror dead-set on destroying their family. (Sidebar: if there were an Investigation Discovery series about people trying to vindicate their loved ones by proving ghosts killed their supposed victims, I would watch the shit out of that.) Scottish ingénue Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame will front the feature as the devoted sister seeking to exonerate her brother, and Deadline reports that another sci-fi TV star has just signed on. Robert Forster and Ashley Judd Sign for ‘Olympus Has Fallen’; Nate Parker Joins ‘Saints’; ‘Oculus’ Finds Star

12 July 2012 5:00 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Another couple of days, another couple of actors added. So it goes with Olympus Has Fallen, the Antoine Fuqua-helmed thrill ride that has, this time around, contracted the great Robert Forster (most recently seen in The Descendants) and Ashley Judd to take supporting parts. THR provides a rundown of their roles that will probably be equal to the film’s onscreen characterization: The seasoned veteran is playing a general who goes toe-to-toe with “nuke-loving [North Korean] terrorists” who’ve taken over the White House, while his new co-star is the First Lady to Aaron Eckhart‘s Commander-in-chief.

Gerard Butler will try to rescue them everyone else held hostage by Rick Yune‘s character, a “sociopathic monster” posing as a South Korean aide. Melissa Leo, Dylan McDermott, Angela Bassett, Radha Mitchell, and Cole Hauser also star in Olympus Has Fallen, which starts shooting sometime during the next week.

Cannes: TWC Go After ‘The Sapphires’ and James Gray’s ‘Low Life’; Sony, Arc, and FilmDistrict Make Deals

16 May 2012 12:34 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Cannes is, ultimately, both an exhibition of wonderful films and a celebration of the very medium, but there’s a very good amount of business taking place after the screenings finish — and, many times, for films that don’t even play in competition. So, as things kick off over in France, Variety reports that The Weinstein Company have procured international rights to The Sapphires, a music biopic — starring, most notably, Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) — that will play as part of the festival’s Midnight Screenings.

The film tells of four Aboriginal girls (Jessica Mauboy, Deborah Mailman, Shari Sebbens, and Miranda Tapsell) that are snatched up by a rowdy Irish producer (O’Dowd), who takes them to Vietnam to entertain American soldiers during the war. Wayne Blair directed the film, while Tony Briggs and Keith Thompson have written the screenplay.

Next up, Toh (via ThePlaylist) says TWC is also angling toward James Gray‘s Low Life, »
