10 Ufc Fighters You Didn’t Know Tried Their Hand At Acting

10 November 2014 6:21 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Columbia Pictures

A while back, an article took a look at ten Mma fighters who tried their hand at acting. You can take a look at that article here. We can’t say all of the examples in that article had stellar careers, but they mostly found limited amounts of success. In fact, some – Cung Le, Gina Carano, Randy Couture, and Ronda Rousey, for example – have actually made careers for themselves on the big screen. And if you count Dave Batista, who did have a single professional Mma fight, you’ve got a breakout star in the Marvel Universe.

It’s amazing to see who else has tried their hand at acting, however, from the world of Mma – with far less successful results. It wouldn’t be untrue to say that all the fighters on this list today have bombed as actors – but really, most have absolutely bombed as actors. »

The Bottom Shelf: Remo, Almost Human, Branded To Kill and more

9 September 2014 12:56 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Nick wades into another stack of DVD releases, including 80s action epic Remo: Unarmed And Dangerous, and lots more besides...

"Whatever happened to Fred Ward?" is a line surely on the tip of most people’s tongues. Apparently, the star of Tremors and The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult has mostly been doing TV work over the last few years, though you’ll almost certainly remember him as the charismatic star of 1985’s Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. No? Well, shame on you, because Remo, making a welcome Blu-Ray debut, leads this month’s action-packed, erm, action special.

If you weren’t one of the lucky few that grew up with the preposterous movie otherwise known as Remo: Unarmed And Dangerous punctuating their childhood, we’ll fill you in. Riding on the success of the Rambo films (essentially, the only tenuous link being the vaguely similar name), Bond director »

10 Lessons Learned From Ufc Fight Night: Bisping vs. Le

23 August 2014 8:24 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Ufc

What went down at Ufc Fight Night 48, and what did we learn?

The Ufc returned to Macau, China today for Ufc Fight Night: Bisping vs. Le, otherwise known as Ufc Fight Night 48. It wasn’t a huge event on paper, but it featured two compelling fights in Michael Bisping vs. Cung Le (a fun fight for the fans) and Tyron Woodley vs. Dong Hyun Kim (a chance to Kim to emerge as a contender, and Woodley to get back into the title picture after a tough loss earlier this Summer to Rory MacDonald).

The rest of the card was underwhelming at best on paper, but as we’ve learned in the past, cards that look weak on paper can often deliver a lot of surprisingly good action.

A pair of fights went to a (split) decision to open the card, with Elizabeth Phillips dropping her fight to the debuting Russian Milana Dudieva, »

5 Great Michael Bisping Ufc Wins

Michael Bisping returns to the octagon this weekend to face Cung Le at Ufc Fight Night 48. Le vs. Bisping headlines the card, which will be shown on Ufc Fight Pass. To mark the return of “The Count” to the octagon, we decided to go back and look at some of his matches over the years – mainly the five greatest wins he has had in the octagon to date.

It’s easy to overlook Bisping’s successes and focus on just the failures – the number of times he has blown it in title eliminators, his posterizing at the hands of Dan Henderson, or his controversies – but we shouldn’t forget that he’s a talented fighter who has consistently been in the top 15 of the middleweight division for several years now. In fact, should he be victorious over Le at Ufc Fight Night 48 in Macau, »

Ufc: Michael Bisping’s 5 Biggest Controversies

18 August 2014 12:27 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Gregory Payan/AP/Press Association Images

England’s Michael Bisping returns to the octagon next Saturday in a bout against action film star and former Strikeforce champion Cung Le.

It’s the headlining bout of Ufc Fight Night 48 in Macau, China, and gives Bisping a chance to reclaim his place in the division, as he’s coming off a one-sided loss to Tim Kennedy that saw him controlled for the majority of the fight.

Interestingly enough, Bisping has been relatively quiet in the build-up to this bout. Generally an outspoken, brash fighter well known for trash talking, he seems to be taking the quiet, respectful route this time around. Speaking to the Global Times just a few days back to promote the upcoming fight, he said “”I respect Cung Le, I have nothing against him personally, but my job is to come to China and beat Cung Le.”

4 Main Card Predictions For Ufc Fight Night: Bisping vs. Le

18 August 2014 12:23 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Ufc

Michael “The Count” Bisping returns to action against fighter/actor Cung Le August 23rd in Macau, China!

Once again, the Ufc is bringing you two events in a single weekend, and first up is Ufc Fight Night: Bisping vs. Le, otherwise known as Ufc Fight Night 48. Taking place one again in Macau, China, the Ufc is returning to the Asian market with an exciting main event that has little relevancy on paper – but a lot of relevancy to the careers of both Michael Bisping and Cung Le.

If Bisping vs. Le is something of a spectacle fight, then the co-main event of the evening does promise to have an impact on its division, as fourth ranked welterweight Tyron Woodley, coming off a definitive loss to Rory MacDonald, looks to right the course against ninth ranked Dong Hyung “Stun Gun” Kim. Kim is on a solid four-fight win streak, and »

DVD Review – A Certain Justice (2014)

A Certain Justice (a.k.a. Puncture Wounds), 2014.

Directed by James Coyne and Giorgio Serafini.

Starring Dolph Lundgren, Cung Le, Vinnie Jones, James C. Burn, Gianni Capaldi and Briana Evigan.

Synopsis:

After returning home from a traumatic tour of duty in Iraq, John finds himself struggling with Ptsd. What little peace he had managed to build around him is shattered one fateful day when he rescues a local call girl from a group of violent Aryan Brotherhood pimps.

For UK fans eagerly awaiting the latest Dolph Lundgren special, A Certain Justice marks his first release of 2014, having had a fairly prolific 2013, including the releases of Hard Rush and Blood of Redemption only a week apart, as well as the late Christmas gift of Battle of the Damned last boxing day. His selection of films sandwiched between big screen outings with The Expendables 2, and the forthcoming third, have been an »

Stars: Cung Le, Dolph Lundgren, Vinnie Jones, Gianni Capaldi, Briana Evigan, James C. Burns, Robert Lasardo, Sean O’Bryan | Written by James Coyne | Directed by Giorgio Serafini, James Coyne

A Certain Justice, aka Puncture Wounds, is the latest film from the foursome of Giorgio Serafini, Dolph Lundgren, Vinnie Jones and Gianni Capaldi, who previously worked together on Hard Rush (aka Ambushed) and Blood of Redemption. This time round the group is joined by Ufc Fighter-turned action star Cung Le (from the awesome Dragon Eyes) and one of my favourite female stars working in Hollywood today, Briana Evigan.

The film tells the story of soldier John Nguyen, who returns home from a traumatic tour of duty in Iraq struggling with Ptsd. What little peace he had managed to build around him is shattered one fateful day when he rescues a local call girl from a group of violent pimps, killing one and severely injuring the other. »

Interview: Gianni Capaldi talks Puncture Wounds, a.k.a. A Certain Justice

9 July 2014 2:31 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Tom Jolliffe chats with Gianni Capaldi about his latest film Puncture Wounds, a.k.a. A Certain Justice

Having started as a businessman in Glasgow, and then moving to L.A, Motherwell born Gianni Capaldi has forged himself a career as an actor and producer and has been working steadily for the last few years, mixing it with a plethora of big name stars.

Coming on August 4th is Puncture Wounds (also known as A Certain Justice) the third of three films which sees Capaldi starring opposite Dolph Lundgren and Vinnie Jones. The previous two, Hard Rush and Blood Of Redemption came out last year.

Puncture Wounds sees former Ufc fighter Cung Le as a former soldier suffering from Ptsd, who intervenes when gang members are assaulting a woman. This brings him to the attention of the gang leader, played by Dolph Lundgren and carnage ensues.

Cung Le Ufc 175 Predictions

3 July 2014 2:31 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

ufc.com

Very few athletes in the world can brag about making it big in two different careers. While there are the Rondas and Franklins, one other fighter made it possible for Mma fighters to transcend the sport, when he opened the gates to enter Hollywood. Cung Le is one of the biggest names in the world of Mma, and has graced the silver screen quite a few times.

I had the pleasure of meeting the icon back in February during Ufc Fight Night – Macao, and we talked about his Mma career and when he would return to active competition. Cung Le informed me that he will be stepping inside the Octagon this year, and sure enough, he is set to face Michael Bisping at Ufc Fight Night 48 on August 23rd in Macao. But before that, I had yet another opportunity to catch up with the legend himself along with my colleague, »

“I’m Open To Fighting Anderson Silva Again” – Chris Weidman

30 June 2014 2:40 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Chris_Weidman.jpg

Chris Weidman had a phenomenal 2013, defeating Anderson Silva first at Ufc 162, capturing the Ufc Middleweight title in the process, and then beating ‘The Spider’ once again at Ufc 168 in December, retaining his title via technical knockout when Anderson Silva suffered a horrific injury, breaking his left fibula and tibia when Weidman checked one of Anderson’s low kicks. Weidman will now face Lyoto Machida in the main event of Ufc 175 on July 5th, with the Ufc Middleweight title on the line.

Although Weidman defeated the legendary Anderson Silva twice, he still isn’t considered as a legitimate champion by some of his critics. Come Saturday, Weidman will have the perfect opportunity to silence his critics once and for all with a victory over the former Ufc Lightweight champion Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida, who is also one of the most respected fighters in the history of Mma. »

Rich Franklin Interview: Talks About One More Ufc Fight

Peter Morrison/AP/Press Association Images

Rich Franklin is one of the biggest names in the world of Mixed Martial Arts. He fought Ken Shamrock on the The Ultimate Fighter – 1 finale, and was involved in numerous legendary battles against the likes of Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson and Anderson Silva.

Recently, my colleague, Ratish Menon and I had the pleasure of talking to the former Ufc Middleweight champion of the world, and the current VP of One Fc. During the course of the interview, we asked Rich numerous questions regarding his personal life, his Mma career and his current status as a fighter.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview.

Ag: With your recent move to One Fc in a business capacity, would you be interested in doing the remaining fight on your Ufc contract?

Rich: When I signed with One Fc, Ufc told me that I didn’t have to retire from my fight contract, »

Hector Lombard Injured, Woodley In Against Stun Gun Kim

24 June 2014 8:50 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

According to the Ufc’s official website, number six ranked welterweight and former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard has fallen to injury, and will be replaced by Tyron Woodley at the upcoming Ufc Fight Night: Le vs. Bisping in Macao, China. The event takes place August 23rd at the Cotai Arena.

Woodley most recently fought at Ufc 174 in Vancouver, losing a unanimous decision to Canadian Rory MacDonald in which he was badly outworked. The match resulted in Ufc president Dana White publicly criticizing Woodley’s performance, saying that he “chokes in big fights.” Woodley now has the chance to quickly right the ship against number nine ranked Dong Hyun Kim, a.k.a. Stun Gun, who enters the fight on a four fight win streak, with wins over John Hathaway, Erik Silva, Siyar Bahadurzada, and Paulo Thiago dating back to 2012. His last two wins, over Silva and Hathaway, came by way of knockout. »

Ufc: Nick Diaz Wants Anderson Silva Fight If The Money Is Right

5 June 2014 10:35 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

youtube

Nick Diaz has told ‘Ufc Tonight’ that he would like to comeback for a fight against Anderson Silva next year if the money is right.

With Anderson Silva’s return to the Ufc marching forward steadily, his leg healing up nicely and training intensifying, talk has shifted from if and when he will return (the current outlook is early 2015, though Dana White would no doubt love to have him as part of the Ufc’s annual year-end show) to who he will face upon his return.

Earlier this week, Silva’s long-time manager Ed Soares threw a couple of names into the hat while speaking with Ariel Helwani on the Mma hour: Cung Le, Michael Bisping, and Nick Diaz. Le and Bisping have a date booked, facing off against one another this August in China in what will be Le’s first fight in the octagon since his highlight-reel »

Don't Pick At These "Puncture Wounds"

8 May 2014 6:28 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Even if you were to search the whole of American film, you might not find a use of voice-over less successful than appears in Puncture Wounds. Both in text (in James Coyne’s screenplay) and in performance (by lead Cung Le), the voice-over so voids all other qualities that to discuss anything else would be akin to discussing anything at a sweet 16 party other than the ox carcass rotting on the front lawn. You can try all you want, but it just doesn’t take.

Special Features - The must-see straight-to-video action films of 2014

19 February 2014 12:19 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Tom Jolliffe on the must-see straight-to-video action films of 2014...

If you’re a little fed up of the never ending stream of remakes, kid friendly PG13 (12A or 15 here) CGI heavy theatrics and Marvel/DC action films that fill up the multiplexes, or you’re no stranger to the unrepentant, simple delights of a bit of straight to video (or Netflix) action, then here is a list of the best to look out for this year.

As big screen action caters more and more for younger audiences, straight to video still largely offers a bit more adult entertainment. What it might lack in big budget thrills it makes up for with F-bombs and gallons of blood (if that’s your thing). As for myself, alongside a steady upbringing of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sly Stallone and Bruce Willis in the late 80’s and 90’s, I’ve also had more than my share »
