On a cinematic scale ranging from “The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story” to, oh, “Citizen Kane,” Lifetime’s latest unauthorized trip to nostalgia-ville, built around “Full House,” falls somewhere in the middle, representing modest progress. That’s because the movie has largely embraced the program’s ethos, yielding a project that, like the show, isn’t afraid to be both sappy and a little silly, while racing through years of on- and off-screen events. High art it’s not (and neither was the inspiration), but with “Melrose Place” and “90210” movies to come, call this a small step in the right direction.
There’s an underlying formula to these films, and “The Unauthorized Full House Story” follows that recipe, starting with the show in production, then flashing back to how it came together in 1985. In this case, a sitcom pitch by producer Jeff Franklin (Matthew Kevin Anderson) is altered on »

Lifetime has been pulling in big ratings with its Unauthorized series of movie biopics that look back at some of our TV favorites from the 80s and 90s. Though, just how authentic they truly are is, and will remain, under scrutiny. The next movie in the series is The Unauthorized Full House Story, and at least one scene rings true. Star John Stamos admits that he almost got The Olsen Twins fired. The backstage event is depicted in the first clip from The Unauthorized Full House Story.
John Stamos is currently promoting his new Fox comedy Grandfathered. TVLine caught up with the star at the the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, where he confirmed that at least this one aspect of the Lifetime movie is authentic. During the first season of the ABC sitcom, he admits that there was some initial friction between him and the »
The clip begins by showing the actors playing a scene in the hit sitcom, but Stamos complains that the then-toddler Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are not quite professional enough for the big time after one of them fills her diaper during a scene, as babies are wont to do.
“We love the twins, but is there any way you can find babies who are a little more comfortable onstage?” Stamos asks a producer.
“Yeah, toddler veterans, we’ll get right on that,” the producer laughs.
And the clip certainly makes a point to milk Bob Saget’s dirty reputation, with the actor suggesting that they “hire a bunch of strippers” and install a pole on set — right in front of the young Jodie Sweetin.
“What’s a stripper? »

The Tanners rarely faced a problem they couldn’t resolve in 22 minutes, but the first clip from Lifetime’s The Unauthorized Full House Story reveals it wasn’t all smooth sailing behind the scenes. For one thing, it seems John Stamos (played here by Justin Gaston) wasn’t sold on the Olsen twins. And that Bob Saget (Garrett Brawith) was […]

If you spend your evenings relishing Nick@Nite’s endless Full House reruns and wishing someone, oh someone, would give you a peek behind the scenes of the squeaky-clean series, well, as Michelle Tanner would say: You got it, dude. Have mercy! The first cast photo from Lifetime's latest behind-the-scenes flick, "The Unauthorized Full House Story" is here -- and wow, is it a real treat. Packed with '90s fashion and at least one outrageous wig, the stars of the film are revealed for the first time. As for the girls, Shelby Armstrong and Brittney Wilson will tackle Candace Cameron, Dakota Guppy and Gordyn Olson star as Jodie Sweetin and two young pairs of twins play the Olsens. Each of the "characters" will be seen at two different stages in their lives.
