Frederick has been the Climbing Director of ONE AXE Inc. since 2001. He has been a professional guide and instructor in the climbing and rigging industry for over 20 years. Frederick has a passion for mountains and has been the Expedition Leader on several notable expeditions. He has also guided on mountains in Canada, USA, Mexico, China, Argentina, Peru, and Antarctica.
Frederick has worked with the University of Guelph's Cliff Ecology Research Group as a Ropes Specialist and assisted in research along the cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment. He has also worked with Conestoga College to run climbing courses as part of the College's outdoor programs. He has trained police, firefighters and military personnel on the rope skills required for each of their unique skill sets.
Frederick often works in the film industry, rigging unique rope stunts as well as training talent and stuntmen for films, television, and media stunts. In addition to working behind the scenes on film sets, Frederick is on many occasions in front or behind the camera. Frederick is always pushing the limits to what is possible in his industry. Frederick has been behind many global expeditions, stunts for the film industry and world records. Past projects include: the first traverse over an active lava lake at Erta Ale volcano in Ethiopia with Brazilian TV personality Karina Oliani; George Kourounis' descent into Darvaza (the Gateway to Hell) in Turkmenistan with National Geographic; the first zipline descent to Benbow volcano's lava lake in Vanuatu for Ultimate Volcano Expeditions; professional climber, Kevin Jorgeson's media stunts climbing buildings around the world for Visit California and Sir Richard Branson's urban zipline media stunt to launch Virgin Mobile. Several of these feats are featured in Guinness Book of World Records and Ripley's Believe it or Not.
Frederick's expertise in highlines and ziplines was demonstrated when he opened a public zipline for Ontario tourism. He introduced many firsts for the TSSA (Ontario's governing authority for zipline safety standards) with the only approved rope zipline, only approved non-permanent zipline, youngest participant age zipline, highest participant weight zipline and the only approved tandem zipline. Frederick is now a certified Zipline Mechanic for the TSSA (Technical Standards Safety Authority).
Frederick has won several awards such as the Award of Excellence, Young Entrepreneur Award and A.C.E Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Frederick has also been honoured with the Centre Wellington Business of the Year Award in 2014, the Tourism Impact Award in 2013, the Business Heritage Award in 2012, Responsible Tourism Award in 2022 and the 2014 Gordon Couling Architectural Conservancy Award for the complete restoration of a condemned 12,000 s.f. limestone church in Elora that he has converted into his business office with a bell tower designed and used for urban rappel training.
Frederick's engaging story telling ability and his exemplary photography and videography of his epic trips are often requested for speaking engagements. He has given presentations to: MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op), Alpine Club of Canada, The Explorer's Club, universities, retreat centers, school groups, corporate events, and Board of Directors meetings. He also volunteers his rope skills for charitable organizations such as Kimb 4 Kidz, Whats UP Youth, S.O.A.R. Southern Ontario Amazing Race, the Children's Foundation, hospitals, schools, church groups as well as donating courses and prizes to many other charitable organizations and community events to use in their fundraisers each year.
