Elijah Wood Starring in Nacho Vigalondo's Open Windows

2 November 2012 6:30 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Elijah Wood will be hanging out in Spain a little while longer. Having just wrapped production on Eugenio Mira's new film Grand Piano in Barcelona, Wood is now in Madrid, filming Open Windows, Nacho Vigalondo's third feature.Open Windows is a technological thriller, told in real time, of a man with a bit of a celebrity obsession, unrolling on laptop screen. Vigalondo is known for stretching the narrative and aesthetic boundaries of cinema, whether through time travel in Timecrimes or spaceships in Extraterrestrial. Moving into the strange world of the internet seems to be along the lines of a trilogy of science fiction, one which will likely be just as interesting and mind-bending.Wood may be an A-list star, but his commitment to independent film continues. A Visit To The Set Of Grand Piano Is Very Grand, Indeed

22 October 2012 9:00 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Spain might be in the throes of severe economic problems, but you wouldn't necessarily know it from the current state of its film industry. With Juan Antonio Bayona's The Impossible breaking box office records and Pablo Berger's Blancanieves the official Spanish selection for the foreign language Oscar, Spanish film, especially of the more fantastic variety, seems to be heading full steam ahead. I recently had the chance to visit the set of Grand Piano, currently wrapping up production in Barcelona. Directed by Eugenio Mira (The Birthday, Agnosia), produced by Rodrigo Cortés and Adrián Guerra (Buried, Red Lights), and starring Elijah Wood, John Cusack, Alex Winter and Kerry Bishé, the film is a tense, intimate thriller, with a complex plot and somewhat high-concept scenario that provides »

Throughout the month of October, Editor-in-Chief and resident Horror expert Ricky D, will be posting a list of his favorite Horror films of all time. The list will be posted in six parts. Click here to see every entry.

As with all lists, this is personal and nobody will agree with every choice – and if you do, that would be incredibly disturbing. It was almost impossible for me to rank them in order, but I tried and eventually gave up.

First Look at Grand Piano Shows Elijah Wood Sitting at the Keys

11 September 2012 8:06 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Have you heard about this new thriller starring Elijah Wood and John Cusack, titled Grand Piano?

The film follows a concert musician who is, after a five-year hiatus due to the concert fright, making his way back to the stage and who discovers a note on his music sheet saying that, if he doesn’t play the best recital of his life, he will be killed. Not exactly the most thrilling of concepts, but there it is, and it reminds me a little of the Speed concept (remember – Sandra Bullock, Kianu Reeves, speeding bus…?).

Here we have the first look at Elijah Wood sitting at the piano keys, which isn’t much – I like ‘nasty little Hobbitses’ as much as the next girl, but please, make him look at least a bit scared while at the keys, for f*ck’s sake! Check it out below:

Tamsin Egerton Set For Grand Piano

10 September 2012 12:37 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The cameras have already begun rolling on indie psycho-thriller Grand Piano. But that isn’t stopping director Eugenio Mira from beefing up the cast with the likes of Tamsin Egerton, Kerry Bishe, Allen Leech, Alex Winter and Don McManus. Elijah Wood is in the hot seat  (literally, if he’s not careful), playing a retired piano virtuoso who stopped performing when he developed crippling stage fright. A psychopath (John Cusack, who between this and The Frozen Ground, seems to be developing a taste for creeps) decides to force him back into the limelight by threatening him and his family / friends. The central conceit finds a bomb placed under a piano during a crucial performance. With a script by Damien Chazelle, the production will jaunt between Chicago, Barcelona and Gran Canaria (sounds like a fun shoot) and should arrive next year.Egerton, last seen in Chalet Girl, will next appear in Singularity. »

Cusack Due To Harmonize With Wood In Grand Piano

17 May 2012 1:30 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

John Cusack is currently involved in negotiations to co-star with Elijah Wood in the forthcoming, Grand Piano. Although he has not always made the best decisions in his career – 2012 being a prime example – he nevertheless manages to remain unpredictable and eclectic in his role choices, and brings a passion and talent to the screen unlike anyone else. From Being John Malkovich to Hot Tub Time Machine via High Fidelity, his career journey has taken him to many weird and wonderful places, and, in Thn’s opinion, he is one of the most underrated actors of our time.

Grand Piano will be helmed by Eugenio Mira (Agnosia, The Birthday), and its script has been authored by Damien Chazelle (Guy And Madeline On A Park Bench). The narrative surrounds the life of a concert pianist who, to his detriment, suffers from extreme stage fright and, as a result, has been forced into early retirement. »

John Cusack In Talks To Join Elijah Wood In 'Speed'-Esque Thriller 'Grand Piano'

16 May 2012 6:04 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

As far as ludicrous movie pitches go, the "'Speed' with a piano' logline for "Grand Piano" is up there with "Snakes On A Plane" and "Burning Bright" (don't remember "Burning Bright?" That was the one where the girl from "Step Up 2" and her autistic brother are trapped in their house by a hurricane, only to be stalked by an escaped tiger. Seriously). The film, announced a week or two back, is set to star Elijah Wood as a concert pianist with stagefright forced to play the concert of his life in order to save his life, and his wife, after finding a threat on his sheet music. Again, we're not making this up.

It comes from producer Rodrigo Cortes, who's an old hand at confined-space thrillers after directing "Buried," and the evidence continues to rack up that it's an actual, genuine movie, as another name star is in discussions to join the project, »

John Cusack Wanted for Elijah Wood’s ‘Grand Piano’

16 May 2012 5:07 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

The premise of Grand Piano is so silly and so high-concept that, in all actuality, I could see it working like a charm. The movie will cast Elijah Wood as a piano player who, after spending five years on a professional leave of absence, comes back to perform a concert, but finds a “threatening note” scribed on his sheet music. And, seeing as this is a thriller, said note leaves him “forced to play his best concert ever to save his life as well as his wife’s.”

I think it sounds like a load of fun; John Cusack might even be on the same page, as Variety reports that director Eugenio Mira has brought him into talks, presumably to play the man tormenting Wood‘s character into putting on a good show. (But don’t take my word for it.) It’s kind of what I’m hoping for, »
