‘Divergent’s’ Ray Stevenson Joins Starz’s ‘Black Sails’ as Blackbeard

It’s a pirate’s life for Ray Stevenson, as the “Divergent” and “Rome” actor has joined the cast of the Starz drama “Black Sails” as the notorious raider Blackbeard.

Stevenson joins the cast for season three, which has Blackbeard (or Edward Teach if you’re being formal) returning to settle some unfinished business. A great deal has changed during his absence, meaning he’ll have to disrupt some cemented alliances and challenge new ones.

Black Sails” follows feared pirate Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his crew. It takes place 20 years prior to the events depicted in Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island.” Stevenson joins a cast that also includes Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Tom Hopper, Zach McGowan, Clara Paget and Toby Schmitz. Ray Stevenson Is Blackbeard In "Sails"

Ray Stevenson has signed on to play Edward Teach, the notorious pirate Blackbeard, in the upcoming third season of Starz's pirate drama "Black Sails".

In the series, Blackbeard returns from a long absence to settle some unfinished business - but with so much having changed, he'll disrupt some cemented alliances and form some new ones.

The series airs its second season finale this weekend and production is currently underway on the third season in Cape Town, South Africa for airing in the first quarter of next year. Stevenson joins a cast that includes Toby Stephens, Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Tom Hopper, Zach McGowan, Clara Paget and Toby Schmitz.

Starz has also released a brief 30-second feature showing some early filming on the third season, ending with a shot of Stevenson in costume.

A+E Networks’ History Captures ‘Black Sails’ in U.K., Africa

London — A+E Networks UK has acquired the exclusive linear TV rights in the U.K. and Africa for Starz’s adventure series “Black Sails,” which will play on History.

The acquisition marks the first A+E Networks U.K. deal with Starz Worldwide Distribution.

The series, which has a strong cast of U.K. actors featuring Toby Stephens (“Die Another Day”) in the lead role as Captain Flint, will premiere on History in the summer.

Other British acting talent in the series includes Hannah New (“El Tiempo Entre Costuras”), Tom Hopper (“Merlin”), and Clara Paget (“One Day”), as well as Australians Luke Arnold (“Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of Inxs”) and Toby Schmitz (“Griff the Invisible”), U.S. star Zach McGowan (“Shameless”), and Canadian Jessica Parker Kennedy (“90210”). The third season began filming in November 2014 in South Africa.
