3 May 2013 5:58 AM, PDT | GlamSham | See recent GlamSham news »

In his last success Chalo Dilli, Vinay Pathak was seen as an uncouth round bellied middle aged man who helped Lara Dutta navigate through the North part of India. The image one has of him was that of a quintessential 'dilliwaala' who loves his 'desi ghee' and 'chaats'. This is the reason why it was simply unbelievable to see a fit and fine Vinay Pathak while he was shooting for his next major film, Bhajathe Raho."Contrary to what one may assume based on hi »

Miss India 2nd runner up Zoya was a child artist

25 March 2013 8:59 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

The Femina Miss India beauty pageant has always been a stepping stone for models to turn actresses in B-town. Many of our Bollywood actresses such as Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Dia Mirza, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sushmita Sen etc first came into prominence after winning or ending up as a runner-up in Miss India beauty pageant. However Zoya Afroz (who was crowned second runner-up yesterday at Miss India pageant) has already acted in a couple of films. Zoya used to be a popular child artist during her younger days and has acted in films like Hum Saath Saath Hain and Kuch Naa Kaho. Besides the 18 year old who originally hails from Lucknow has also done a Punjabi film. One wonders if Zoya will once again return to Bollywood now that she has won the prestigious crown. »

David

Starring Vikram, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vinay Virmani, Tabu, Lara Dutta, Nasser,Rohini Hattangadi, Monica Dogra

Directed by Bejoy Nambiar

Rating: **** ½

Bejoy Nambiar’s second feature film after Shaitaan interconnects the lives of three characters named David, played with outstanding conviction by actors belonging to three different generations. They three protagonists who by chance share the same name didn’t have to be linked in the plot at all. Each David occupies a distinctive emotional spatial and chronological dimension. Each story is told with a muted flourish that eschews the flamboyant edginess of a recent, highly favoured and over-flavoured genre of Hindi cinema…you know the Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bharadwaj genre where the characters are darkly drawn from life’s most somber colours.

Nambiar’s universe is populated by victims who refuse to bow down to what we call destiny and what in many circumstances is plain cowardice. In the »
