Charlie Murphy Attending America Ferrara's Wedding

6 July 2009 9:29 AM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

While you bemoan the decline of Eddie Murphy's career and blindly hope that Beverly Hills Cop 4 might make it all better, have hope: there is still one vaguely funny Murphy sibling left. Sure, Charlie Murphy hasn't done much of note since Chappelle's Show (the Rick James sketch embedded below in case you've somehow forgotten), but he still has potential, unlike his brother, who seems to have given up entirely. So maybe celebrate just a little that Murphy has been cast in Family Wedding, according to Variety. He'll be playing a friend to a character played by Forest Whitaker; also among the cast are America Ferrera and Carlos Mencia. We reported a little on this movie a few months back, about a feud between two fathers (Whitaker and Mencia) whose kids are getting married.

Inside track: Emmy race for lead comedy actress

4 July 2009 6:58 PM, PDT | From Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news

All five of last year's Emmy rivals for best comedy actress are back in the race and seem likely to return on July 16: Christina Applegate ("Samantha Who?"), America Ferrera ("Ugly Betty"), Tina Fey ("30 Rock"), Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("The New Adventures of Old Christine") and Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds"). Since the TV academy is expanding this category to six contenders this year, that means there's room for one more. Don't count out Amy Poehler just because "Parks and Recreation" hasn't scored big with TV critics and Nielsen viewers. Unlike the previous three Emmy derbies, nominees will be chosen by a popular vote of members of the academy's acting branch – and, of course, Poehler is hugely popular. Personally, I'm rooting for her to get in. Poehler told Gold Derby that there will be no "diva clawfest" between her and former "Saturday Night Live" costar Tina Fey (last year's champ) if they both nab noms,

1 July 2009 1:27 AM, PDT | From Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news

Reports on Susan Boyle will make a cameo on an episode of "Ugly Betty" have been denied. A representative for ABC told Us Magazine and Entertainment Weekly that the 48-year-old singing sensation won't join America Ferrera to star on the comedy series.

Previously, it was reported that Susan Boyle was contacted by the TV execs last month to "play herself" on "Ugly Betty". "Susan has been bombarded with offers of work in America, but this is something she is really keen on and we hope to make happen," a source said of the "Britain's Got Talent" star.

At that time, Boyle's representative neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, only saying "Susan has many offers on the table." The representative then continued, "At the moment she is looking forward to recording her album."

"Ugly Betty" was first aired in 2006. It is about awkward magazine assistant Betty Suarez, the character portrayed by America Ferrera,

DreamWorks Announces Upcoming Animation Slate

29 May 2009 12:35 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

DreamWorks Animation has gone 3-D wacky, announcing eight upcoming animated flicks in various stages of production.

Variety reports that CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg will show investors the Dwa schedule in New York this week, as part of their new plan to release five new features every two years.

Considering that Monsters vs. Aliens was the company's only 2009 release, that's a pretty ambitious goal. And like fellow studios Pixar, Buena Vista, Fox, et al, DreamWorks is throwing all their money at 3-D features for the next few years.

The current DreamWorks Animation schedule is as follows:

How to Train Your Dragon (March 26, 2010) -- Based on the kids' book by British author Cressida Cowell, the comedy focuses on a young Viking lad named Hiccup (Jay Baruchel), son of chieftain Stoic the Vast (Gerard Butler), who must train a tiny, toothless dragon as a rite of passage. It also features Jonah Hill and America Ferrera.
