First Argo Image Arrives Ben Affleck Goes Bearded

28 December 2011 4:31 PM, PST | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

With the New Year almost upon us and the news streams largely quiet, this is the one of the few annual times the studios choose to bombard us with preview pictures from their upcoming output. Warners has shoved a raft of new pictures online, with one of particular interest - the first official image from Ben Affleck's Argo.

Affleck passed on the chance to make the new Superman for this one, an intriguing ripped-from-real-life tale of six American hostages and the audacious plan to evacuate them safely from Iran.

Adapted from Joshuah Berman's article about the incident by writer Chris Terrio Argo follows CIA 'exfiltration' specialist Tony Mendez (Affleck) in November 1974 as he's informed of the situation. You see, militants have stormed the Us embassy and taken 52 Americans hostage. Six have escaped and are finding refuge with the Canadian ambassador, but they need to leave the country pronto. So »

First Official Image Of Ben Affleck And Scoot McNairy In Argo

27 December 2011 1:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Argo, Ben Affleck’s third time directing a feature film, is by far one of the films I’m most looking forward to in 2012. By far. Both of his last films, Gone Baby Gone and The Town, were Oscar-nominated, and both were brilliant. The Town, especially, took the box office a little by storm last year when it went straight to #1 across theAtlantic, in what was one of the best films of 2010.

After directing his brother Casey Affleck in Gone Baby Gone and leading The Town himself, Affleck is once more stepping both behind and in front of the camera in Argo, assembling a fantastic supporting cast that includes Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Alan Arkin, Scoot McNairy, Michael Parks, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, and Tate Donovan.

Warner Bros. have now put out the brilliant first official image from the film, via ComingSoon.net, in which we can see »

First Look: Ben Affleck in Odd Real-Life Hostage Thriller ‘Argo’

26 December 2011 3:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Germain's prepping his '10 most anticipated movies for 2012' list right now and I'll probably put one together as well just as soon as I get back from Texas. One movie I'm pretty sure will be on his list and I know would be on mine is Argo, the third film directed by Ben Affleck. As we've mentioned a few times in the past while covering the casting for the film, this movie is based on a real situation in which a handful of CIA operatives posed as key members of a movie crew in order to extract diplomats who had been taken hostage in 1979 Tehran. They're not posing as just any film crew, but as guys scouting locations for a sci-fi film called, naturally, Argo. Above, that's part of the first official image of Affleck as one of the primary members of that crew; see the whole thing below. »

Warner Bros. has released the first official photo from Ben Affleck's Argo online. The story is based on real-life Iran hostage event and also stars Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Zeljko Ivanek, Richard Kind, Scoot McNairy, Chris Messina, Michael Parks, Kerry Bishe, and Kyle Chandler.

Here is the synopsis:

Based on true events, “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Ben Affleck Goes Back To The 70s In First Official Image From His Hostage Drama ‘Argo’

26 December 2011 7:41 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Coming off his excellent but underseen Gone Baby Gone and the engaging but slightly overpraised The Town, Ben Affleck is getting ready to release his third film next fall. Argo, based on a real-life Iran hostage event, sees Affleck assembling a fantastic cast that includes himself, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Zeljko Ivanek, Richard Kind, Scoot McNairy, Chris Messina, Michael Parks, Kerry Bishe and Kyle Chandler.

Warner Bros. has provided the first official image from the film today, which features a very 70s-looking Affleck dissecting some government documents, likely before he goes on the mission. The Town‘s heist scenes were the most thrilling of that film, so I’m intrigued to see if Affleck can provide the same tension here. Also starring Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber and Taylor Schilling, one can click the image below for higher resolution.

James Gandolfini In Talks To Join Jim Carrey And Steve Carrel For Burt Wonderstone

31 October 2011 2:00 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Burt Wonderstone is really starting to shape up with its cast recently, with Jim Carrey and Steve Carell confirmed for the leading male roles.

Just a few days ago, Michelle Monaghan, Olivia Wilde, Judy Greer, Jessica Biel, and Sarah Silverman were reported to be on the short list for the female lead, and now word comes from Variety that James Gandolfini, of course well known for his unbeatable performance as Tony Soprano in The Sopranos, is in talks to join the film too.

“Carell stars as half of a once-successful Las Vegas magic duo that must reunite to square off against a hot-shot street magician (Carrey) whose tricks are often dangerous.

Gandolfini is in talks to play Doug Munny, a classy billionaire who owns the Aztec Casino, where the title character and his partner perform their show.”

The role sounds pretty perfect for Gandolfini, who was immense as the head of the Soprano family, »

By This Time Next Year, We’ll Have Seen Ben Affleck’s Argo

3 October 2011 7:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

In the past four years, Ben Affleck has been firing on all cylinders, showing no sign of slowing down. He made his incredible directorial debut with his brother Casey Affleck heading up the cast in Gone Baby Gone, and then followed this up last year with his immense second effort, The Town, which he led himself.

Both films earned an Oscar nomination for one of their supporting cast, and both did well at the box office, with The Town utterly exceeding all expectations by turning a $37m. into more than $150m. when it came out last September.

Warner Bros. seem to be hopeful that Affleck’s third time directing a feature film will replicate his past successes, giving his next film, Argo, which has already begun principal photography, the same third weekend in September slot in which to release it next year, The Playlist report. The States will be getting it on 14th September, »

Charlize Theron Closing In On Cities Of Refuge

26 September 2011 1:00 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron, best known for a wide range of roles from her Oscar-winning performance in 2003’s Monster to her turn as a ‘superhero’ opposite Will Smith and Jason Bateman in Hancock a few years back, is now in talks to lead a new crime thriller project called Cities of Refuge, Deadline report.

The script comes from newcomer Brandon Willer, and has been optioned by Inferno Entertainment, a new production company who seem to be setting their sights pretty damn big in the years to come.

Inferno have one film under their belt already, The Experiment, which starred Adrien Brody, Forest Whitaker, and Cam Cigandet, all very recognisable faces. And excluding Cities of Refuge, they’ve got three more big-star projects lined up in the next yew years. One is an adaptation of Arabian Nights, to be led by up-and-coming Liam Hemsworth. DVD Review: Wreckage

Wreckage

Stars: Scoot McNairy, Aaron Paul, Kelly Kruger, Mike Erwin | Written by David Frigerio | Directed by John Mallory Asher

When Wreckage first started it had me worried. The basic premise of the opening scene is two kids caught up in a shooting of their mother and her bully of a boyfriend. The thing that worried me was the acting and quality of the effects on the shooting. It just seemed to be a failed scene in what should have been the opener to lay the grounds for the movie. Not a good sign at all.

Gladly this changed quickly though as we moved on into the “years later” scenario and the story found its footing. It’s a typical tale where we are introduced to four average young people who take drive into the middle of nowhere but end up breaking down. They remember they saw a junk yard a »

Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ Adds Michael Parks, Clea DuVall, Richard Kind; Official Synopsis Revealed

2 September 2011 10:06 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Warner Bros has sent out the obligatory press release to announce the commencement of filming on Ben Affleck's third film as director, Argo. We've known most of the cast for a while: Affleck, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, and John Goodman, with more recent additions Kyle Chandler, Tate Donovan, Rory Cochrane and Taylor Schilling. Now we've got an official synopsis for the film, which adapts the true story of a CIA team that posed as a film crew in order to extract diplomats from Tehran in 1979. But perhaps of more interest to some who already know the story is the confirmation of cast additions that include the great Michael Parks (above), as well as Clea Duvall and Richard Kind. I can't really do better than the press release, which goes like this: Based on true events, "Argo" chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the »

Ben Affleck Begins Dangerous Middle East Adventure

2 September 2011 6:22 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Ben Affleck has begun commanding a dangerous mission deep into the heart of an extremely hostile enemy. Luckily, he'll get to boss the bad guys around, too.

Principal photography on the star's third directorial effort, "Argo," began on Thursday, with Warner Bros. sending out a press release detailing both the star-studded behind-the-scenes team (see: Clooney, George, for example) and the first official synopsis of the based-on-a-true-story film.

In a quick summary of the synopsis, the film is about six Us hostages that have escaped the grasp of their Iranian hostage takers during the famous 1979 crisis. They make their way to the home of a Canadian ambassador, but require an extreme plan to make it out of the country. Enter a preposterous, movie production scheme and some guts of steel, and you have one of the wildest stories in recent covert history (or, so we know).

In addition to directing, Affleck will star in the film, »

Chris Messina, Michael Parks, Richard Kind and More Complete Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ Cast as Production Begins

1 September 2011 1:10 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

With production beginning today on Ben Affleck‘s hostage thriller Argo, Warner Bros. lets us know of a few new players added to the cast. We’ve already got Affleck starring alongside Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kerry Bishé, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber, Zeljko Ivanek, Scoot McNairy and Taylor Schilling. Three names stood out for me as new additions though in the press release.

Richard Kind (A Serious Man), Chris Messina (Away We Go) and Michael Parks (who is in Kevin Smith‘s Red State, on VOD today), round out the rest of the major actors. There is no word on what specific roles they play, but these are three of my favorite character actors and it is nice to see Affleck make these additions. After mostly enjoying The Town and loving Gone Baby Gone, I’m looking forward to this one. »

Ben Affleck's third effort behind the camera after the critically adored combination of "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town" probably doesn't need more hype heaped on it but with a cast featuring Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Scoot McNairy, Kyle Chandler and Affleck himself, in a story based on fascinating Wired article "How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran," it's hard not to get excited. Ben Affleck's Argo Cast Grows By Three

Ben Affleck has already managed to assemble one hell of a team for his third feature film, Argo. Starring himself in the lead role, actors like Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, Scoot McNairy and many more have also signed up, but apparently Affleck isn't done just yet as he's just added three more names to his cast list. Variety has learned that Taylor Schilling, Tate Donovan and Nelson Franklin have all joined the ranks of the upcoming Argo. Set in 1979, the film is about a covert mission orchestrated by the CIA to rescue U.S. diplomat hostages in Tehran. They did this by pretending to set up a Hollywood production for a sci-fi movie called Argo and actually employed producers and make-up artists to help make it all look real. In the project, Schilling, who stars alongside Zac Efron in the upcoming The Lucky One, will play Affleck's »

The film is based upon a 2007 Wired magazine article entitled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran.” The feature documents a rescue mission launched by the CIA for a group of diplomats in Tehran that involved a rouse to convince the Iranian government that the diplomats were actually a Hollywood film crew scouting locations.
