Made his early career as a photographer. In this role encountered the young Marilyn Monroe. Took her pictures and they had an affair of about a week, remaining friends afterward. Later helped her to get free of her contract with 20th Century Fox and together they formed a 51-49% production company: Marilyn Monroe Productions in 1956.
