Jim Parsons Gay / Harvey / The Normal Heart

24 May 2012 9:42 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Jim Parsons gay? Well, as per the New York Times, yes, the Big Bang Theory actor "is gay and in a 10-year relationship." No more details are given out. No explanations as to why the Times made a point of outing Parsons, who says nothing about his private life or sexual orientation during an interview focusing on a Broadway revival of Harvey in which Parsons stars in the old James Stewart movie role of the, huh, eccentric bachelor whose pal is a big rabbit (Harvey) that only he can see. In addition to his stage work, the Houston-born, 39-year-old Parsons has been seen in movies and on television since 2002. His TV breakthrough was, of course, The Big Bang Theory, which has earned him two Emmys and a Golden Globe. On the big screen, Jim Parsons hasn’t made much of a mark yet, as he has almost invariably been cast in minor supporting roles. »

Meet the 2012 SXSW Filmmakers #11: Silas Howard & Ernesto Foronda, 'Sunset Stories'

4 March 2012 8:00 AM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

"Sunset Stories" directors Silas Howard and Ernesto Foronda have an interesting take on filmmaking: "All film production feels like painting a picture on the railroad tracks with a train barreling down on you," says Howard. "You can paint up until the last minute pulling it off the tracks before the train smashes into your work." Looks like they pulled off the tracks in time, as "Sunset Stories" will be screening at this year's SXSW Film Festival. What It's About: It’s about an Ocd nurse who runs into her past while on route to pick up an organ transplant and the 24-hour journey she goes on to find all that she lost. The Directors Say: "In 'Sunset Stories,' May blames magical thinking (which is often linked to Ocd behavior a way of trying to control one’s life) as the reason she runs into the one person she left 5 years prior. »

Big Easy Express will screen on Saturday, March 17. The program will also include the world premiere of Columbia Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures' 21 Jump Street, screening in the Centerpiece slot on Monday, March 12. Among them are 65 World Premieres, 17 North American Premieres and 10 U.S. Premieres. The organization already announced [1] Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods would open the festival (the movie is phenomenal [2]) and today the majority of the remaining line up has been revealed. One of the highlights is the unbelievably smart and hilarious 21 Jump Street, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller. Both of those are World Premieres. Other highlights include The Hunter, Killer Joe, The Babymakers, frankie goes boom, God Bless America, The Imposter, The Raid, Bernie and Casa de mi Padre just to name a few. After the jump, read descriptions of all the films that have been announced so far. Before I copy and paste the rest of the list, a few minor notes. »
