Thoughts on... Jackass 3D (2010)

25 November 2010 9:19 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Jackass 3D, 2010.

Directed by Jeff Tremaine.

Starring Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Steve-o, Jason 'Wee Man' Acuña, Preston Lacy, Chris Pontius and Ehren McGhehey.

Synopsis:

The Jackass crew return for the third installment of their TV show spin-off.

Here’s how I expected Jackass 3D to play out:

Annoying American Moron 1: You ready for this man?

Annoying American Moron 2: Yeah dude, ready as I’ll ever be.

Annoying American Moron 1: Ok man brace yourself.

Annoying American Moron 2: Oh Christ dude wait up...

Annoying American Moron 1: 1, 2...here it comes man...3

(Some form of speeding projectile crashes into Moron 2’s private parts)

Annoying American Moron 2: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Annoying American Moron 1: Bulls-eye man!

Dimwit Onlookers: Hahahahahahahaha awesome!

(Close-up of throbbing impact area, rendered an unappealing, dangling reality by the magic of 3D)Repeat scene to fill film.

This still isn’t a million miles from several scenes in Jackass 3D. »

Jackass 3D

Guest Review by James Warren

Stars: Johnny Knoxville, Wee Man, Bam Margera, Steve-o, Ryan Dunn, Preston Lacy, Chris Pontius, Ehren McGhehey, Dave England | Written by Preston Lacy | Directed by Jeff Tremaine

Compare and Contrast:

“When movies got to the bottom of the barrel of their creativity and at the last gasp of their financial lifespan, they did a 3-D version to get the last few drops of blood out of the turnip. And that’s not what’s happening now with 3-D. It is a renaissance – right now the biggest and the best films are being made in 3-D” – James Cameron, Interview 2010

“Hi, I’m Steve-o and this is the Poo Cocktail Bungee” - Steve-o, Jackass 3D 2010

James Cameron would have the cinema going public believe that 3D films are reaching a golden period of creativity. With the release of Jackass 3D I believe he would also condemn »

This Week In Movies – “Jackass 3D,” “Red,” “Conviction”

18 October 2010 9:51 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

By Pete Hammond

HollywoodNews.com: Box office-wise this will probably be known as the week that clearly marked the decline of western civilization. With its near stunning $50 million gross Paramount’s scatological gross-out epic “Jackass 3D” exceeded expectations on about the same level as it managed to exceed any expectation of taste. The enthusiastic public reception to this third chapter in Johnny Knoxville and gang’s low brow exercise in vomit-inducing bodily pranks probably says more about what audiences crave than it does about the “filmmakers” who serve it all up in gut-blasting 3D. Want to see a dildo fly right into your face? This is the place. Want to watch a fat guy running on a treadmill wrapped in cellophane producing ‘sweat cocktails’ for adventurous drinkers? Line up now. Want to check out a hungry pig named Bob trying to extract an apple from the same fat guy’s rear end? »

The film is the first 3D outing in the popular idiotic-stunts series and, as Johnny Knoxville is quoted as saying it: [takes] “stupid to a whole new dimension”.

The Jackass pranksters are at it again in this third outing, presented for the first time in 3D — an effect that will no doubt redefine the use of the in-your-face technology.

Jackass 3D brings back all the original cast – including Johnny Knoxville, Preston Lacy, Steve-o, Party Boy, and Bam Margera and as with the first two installments the three-quel is directed by Jeff Tremaine. »

Jackass 3D review

17 October 2010 10:19 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Possibly the most honest and convincing 3D movie on the planet, Jackass 3D soared to the top of the Us box office over the weekend. But is it any good?

How do you even begin to talk about a movie like Jackass 3D? I mean, there's no plot, there's no story, there's no acting. It's just a loose collection of crazy stunts and physical violence performed by middle-aged millionaires with way too much time on their hands. So, basically, it's like any other action movie produced this year, but with a much lower budget and a much higher profit potential.

At this point, you know what Jackass is about. It's the perfect combination of reality television and a scripted program, with wacky stunts intermingled with random craziness, ‘man on the street' reaction shots, meshed with performance art. As sheer spectacle, you can't go wrong with Jackass 3D.

Some of it is hilarious. »

Jackass 3D Box Office: Imbecility Sells

17 October 2010 10:52 AM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Jason Acuna, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius, Steve-o, Preston Lacy in Jeff Tremaine's Jackass 3D Movies are better than ever. Just ask Paramount. The Paramount-distributed Jackass 3D, which cost a reported $20m to make, pulled in an astounding $50m at the North American box office on its first three days out according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Jackass 3D's take far surpassed expectations, which hovered around $25-30m, and even adjusted Saturday estimates, which had the film grossing $40m after scoring nearly $22m on Friday. Once again starring Johnny Knoxville, and featuring an array of idiotic stunts, crass jokes, and 3D technology, Jackass 3D, much more than David Fincher's The Social Network or Clint Eastwood's Hereafter, fully reflects the current idioticized zeitgeist — at least in the United States. At 3,081 theaters, Jackass 3D averaged $16,228 per site. Back in 2006, Jackass Number Two grossed $29m (in 2D, »

‘Jackass 3D’ Movie Delivered Lots Of Shocking,Disgusting Stunts

16 October 2010 6:25 PM, PDT | OnTheFlix | See recent OnTheFlix news »

'Jackass 3D' movie delivered lots of shocking, disgusting stunts. Paramount Pictures released their new reality flick "Jackass 3D" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and was very shocked at some of the stunts they pulled. I mean some of them were just outright gross. They definitely went more for the nasty stuff in this one. The movie stars: Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Steve-o, Jason “Wee Man” Acuña, Chris Pontius, Preston Lacy, Dave England, and Ehren McGhehey. In "Jackass 3D," all the crazy boys from the first two original Jackass movies returned to the big screen to shock us with more crazy violent, disturbing, and just outright nasty stunts. As usual Johnny Knoxville showed up in most of the scenes. They also threw in some acting skits in between the stunts. One skit consisted Jason "Wee Man" Acura getting into a bar fight with another midget. »

Movie Review: "Jackass 3D"

The players: Director: Jeff Tremaine, Writer: Preston Lacy, Cast: Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-o, Chris Pontius, Ryan Dunn

Facts of interest: Rumor has it this could be the last "Jackass" movie.

The plot: Knoxville and his band of crazy buddies are back doing silly stunts and stupid jokes to entertain their fans.

Our thoughts: Johnny Knoxville and his gang of dauntless idiots are back in action on the big-screen with “Jackass 3D,” and no, I’m definitely not ashamed to say I had a blast watching those fools do what they do best in this third installment of the series.

Not every stunt in the film provokes huge laughs, but all in all, “Jackass 3D” manages to provide excellent entertainment for those not minding the fascinating stupidity of Knoxville and Co. »

Jackass 3D Directed by: Jeff Tremaine Written by: Preston Lacy Starring: Johnny Knoxville, Steve-o, Chris Pontius, Bam Margera, Wee Man, Preston Lacy, Danger Aaron, Ryan Dunn When Jackass: The Movie was released back in 2002, it provoked a lot of strong responses on both sides. Some people thought it was the most vile and idiotic drivel ever to taint cinemas, while others found it to be among the most uproarious and memorable theatre-going experiences of their lives. Now, 8 years later, there doesn't seem to be as much vocal opposition anymore. Jackass is simply a part of the pop culture landscape, and people have either accepted it, or they have become quite good at blocking it out of their mind. In the time since Jackass Number Two, however, Johnny Knoxville and his posse have faded from the public eye a little bit. Steve-o struggled with his drug addiction problems, while some of »

Top Critics Gave New ‘Jackass 3D’ Movie Mixed Reviews

Top critics gave new 'Jackass 3D' movie mixed reviews. Paramount Pictures released their new reality/comedy flick "Jackass 3D" into theaters today, and the top critics gave it pretty mixed reviews with Bs,Cs,Ds,and even an F. The movie stars: Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Steve-o, Jason “Wee Man” Acuña, Chris Pontius, Preston Lacy, Dave England, and Ehren McGhehey. Owen Gleiberman at Entertainment Weekly gave it a B rating. He said, 'More than ever, Johnny Knoxville and his boys belong to a very elite club of idiocy. They martyr themselves for our diversion, driven at every moment to ask: Are you not entertained?" Justin Chang at Variety gave it a B. He said, "A joyous, liberated approach to comedy, a genuine sense of the grotesque and pacing so relentless that even the less-than-uproarious bits don't overstay their welcome." »

Interview: Jackass 3D, "Success Equals Failure."

15 October 2010 2:34 PM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to watch a preview of Jackass 3D, released nationwide today. Having not seen any of the Jackass movies, I can flat out guarantee that this will dwarf the success of the group's previous cinematic outings - not only because of the 3D component (which is made excellent use of), but as much due to the sheer inventiveness, outrageousness and utter hilarity of most of their stunts. Dubbed by some as nothing but a bunch of gloriously deranged lunatics (they are, but that's beside the point), the members of Jackass are equally entitled to be seen as a crew of modern day daredevils, constantly pushing themselves to perform ever more dangerous feats for the pure thrill of doing so. After watching the movie, I joined a roundtable interview with this colorful cast of characters (Johnny Knoxville, Bam Magera, Preston Lacy, Jason "Wee-Man" Acuna, Dave England, »

Jake’s Take on his interview with Johnny Knoxville and the gang

When it comes to doing junkets and airing them on your local news stations — mine being Fox 26 in Houston, Texas — there are certain no-brainers when it comes to what is allowed content-wise and what is not. Obviously, when you interview the guys from Jackass, you’re going to get more of the latter than the former. In fact, when airing these pieces, I made plenty of jokes about how censored the interviews had to be.

But, when the package ended and I was wrapping my segment, »

Who’S It For? Even if you’re familiar with the Jackass ethos, the chances are still very high that at least a couple of scenes will gross you out, or even prove to be unbearable.

Expectations: It’s been almost five years since the fittingly titled Jackass: Number Two. I was prepared for more gross-outs and shocks, but mostly more laughs. I had hoped that the time away would be evident to more clever, immediately funny stunt segments.

Scorecard (0-10)

Talking: Contrary to their macho, I-will-do-anything mentality, these guys are not robots. »

Testing the power of a jet engine in Jackass 3D

Photo: Paramount Pictures Considering the content of Jackass 3D, it's almost amazing to think it may be tamer than its predecessor. That is to say this time around instead of drinking horse semen one of the members of the Jackass crew of miscreants drinks a cup full of sweat after it dripped off Preston Lacy's naked body. Instead of showing a miniature house covered in feces you get, quite literally, an anal eruption. And I am reporting all this in the gentlest of terms, hoping you aren't reading this review during your lunch hour. It's only appropriate to prepare you for what's on screen. However, this film isn't entirely made up of gags meant to make you... well... gag.

I am going to start out by saying that I almost threw up twice watching this. It Was Awesome!

The Jackass crew is back in their third movie… and this time, all of their vulgarity is captured in 3D. Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-o, Wee Man, Ryan Dunn, Chris Pontius, Preston Lacy, Dave England, and Ehren McGheyhey are all ready to rock… along with guest appearances from Spike Jones, Matt Hoffman, and Seann William Scott ( Who looks terrible, btw. )

The 3D in this film is Fantastic. Some scenes look like they were simply converted into 3D, so they aren’t that great, while others are Insane! Special cameras were made for their stunts that capture their super fast hits in a high definition. This way, when they slow them down you can see everything! You can see the skin ripple with every hit, and some things that just shouldn’t be seen in 3D, »

'Jackass 3D': The Reviews Are In!

Johnny Knoxville and co. deliver 'the spectacle of comedy pared down to its barest essence,' one critic says.

By Eric Ditzian

A scene from "Jackass 3D"

Photo: Paramount Pictures

The first two "Jackass" flicks shotgunned their way to the top of the box office. "Jackass 3D" will probably be no different. The only question should be if the third of Johnny Knoxville's stunt-heavy movies can top the opening of his second.

"Jackass Number Two" bowed to $29 million on over 3,000 screens in 2006. "Jackass 3D," by contrast, is set to screen in about 30 more theaters, and comes with an inflated ticket price, thanks to its third dimension. Some box-office experts are predicting the new movie will gross upwards of $30 million, which would make it the first film to cross that plateau since "The Expendables" in mid-August. Other B.O. authorities expect "Jackass" to land in the mid-to-high $20 million range.

Jackass 3D Press Junket Coverage: "Who's Michael Bay?"

Last Saturday, I had the chance to attend the press junket for Jackass 3D. The film screened for press the night before, and you can read my review Here.

A few fellow journalists/bloggers and I had roundtable interviews with the cast. Below is some condensed info about what went down.

The first group consisted of Dave England, Ryan Dunn, "Danger" Ehren, Wee Man, and Preston Lacy. Ryan Dunn was the most easy-going of the group, and all of the guys offered up some candid answers about the process and their feelings about coming back for the third installment.

What goes through your minds when a new Jackass film is announced?

Ryan Dunn: For me, I was apprehensive. I didn't know if we'd get along...it'd been a while. I was unsure of the outcome. But literally, within a half hour of getting back together with everybody, I realized my assumptions were unfounded. »

‘Jackass 3D’ Review

Screen Rant’s Roth Cornet reviews Jackass 3D

The whole Jackass gang returns for a series of borderline psychotic stunts, pranks and live-action gross-out jokes in Jackass 3D.

Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Steve-o, Jason “Wee Man” Acuna, Preston Lacy, Chris Pontius, “Danger Ehren” McGhehey, Dave England and of course Johnny Knoxville reunite under the direction of Jeff Tremaine; to bring audiences a gut-busting  (in more ways than one) adventure that was created with an appropriately ridiculous use of 3D.

Jackass 3D is everything you would expect if you are familiar with the series, and a welcome surprise if you’re not. It is nearly impossible not to get caught up in the infectious sense of fun that these guys impart. They bring an element of play and very boyish humor into all that they do, and you simply want to…
