Mindy Kaling’s hopes for “The Mindy Project” were rather simple at the beginning: Let it be funny. Now that the comedy has hit 100 episodes as of Tuesday, Kaling believes she she has accomplished that goal.

“I don’t think I’ve changed that much. I was certainly more nervous when we started just because I wanted to stay on the air,” Kaling told IndieWire.  “I didn’t know how densely packed with jokes it would be. I’m really proud of that. Coming from ‘The Office,’ I knew that you can’t really predict what is going to work and what isn’t at the very beginning. You have to just let the show reveal itself to you as it airs.”

’30 Rock’: How Playing Toofer Changed Keith Powell’s Life Forever

13 October 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

In the years since “30 Rock” went off the air, Keith Powell has been keeping busy. Beyond making notable appearances on series including “About a Boy” and “The Newsroom,” the man you might know best as “Toofer” has been stretching his creative wings, making his own original digital series “Keith Broke His Leg” and pursuing a career in directing for television.

When Powell was cast in the “30 Rock” pilot as a “Tgs” writer whose nickname came from the fact that he was both black and a Harvard graduate, he lacked experience as an actor, and he freely admitted that the show’s seven seasons were “the very best doctoral program” he could ask for not just as an actor but as a director.

The Mindy Project Review: No Romance, No Gesture, No Problem

Who else was hoping Jody would just go away forever after how he reacted to Mindy last week? To balance out an annoying Jody, we were introduced to Ben, a nurse in Leo’s pediatrician’s office played by Bryan Greenberg. The track record of attractive male guest stars turning into love interests on The Mindy Project means there’s a very high probability of Ben and Mindy getting together and it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. There is no redeeming Jody Kimball-Kinney in my eyes. I’m glad Mindy’s on the same page as she’s not taking any of his

Well, that didn’t last long.

Just moments after “The Mindy Project” set up last seasons’s love triangle, it tore it down. In the Season 5 premiere, Mindy (Mindy Kaling) realized that neither her ex Danny (Chris Messina) nor work colleague Jody (Garret Dillahunt) were really viable romantic options — but never one to let Mindy stay stagnant for long, the show will immediately introduce a new challenging and infuriating love interest in Tuesday’s episode, now available on Hulu.

‘Insecure’: Issa Rae Gives a Voice to Authentic, Flawed Black Women and Even a ‘Broken Pussy’

On Issa Rae’s new HBO comedy “Insecure,” her on-screen alter ego Issa Dee is slowly finding her own voice – both at work (at a non-profit that helps underprivileged children) and in her personal life. It’s a voice that is increasingly playful, open but blunt all at once.

In one scene from Sunday’s premiere, Issa diagnoses her best friend Molly (Yvonne Orji) with a “broken pussy” that’s causing her lack of success with men. “If it could talk it would make that sad Marge Simpson groan,” Issa says.

Flock Of Dudes Review

28 September 2016 7:06 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Flock Of Dudes is a star-studded bromance dissection about becoming one with maturity, yet Bob Castrone’s film lacks the same motivations that its characters lazily ignore. A who’s who of almost A-list comedians float through a vague, generic period of rediscovery without ever making good on their thematic promises. Comedics flounder, drama dissipates and relationships aimlessly shamble on for far too long, until Castrone’s reformed herd of drunken steers shuffles towards an expected finality. Scot Armstrong’s Search Party went the bromigo route earlier this year, and while Castrone’s film is admittedly more stable, at lest Armstrong swung for the fences. Only Eric André delivers as expected here, while a host of other extremely funny comedians play drab, unfunny versions of themselves – because this is a serious movie, dammit!

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.

This Past Weekend:

While the new movies reigned at the box office this past weekend, both Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven (Sony) and the animated Storks (Warner Bros.) didn’t fare nearly as well as our projections, both falling short by about $10 million. The Magnificent Seven, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, fared decently with $34.7million, which is about the average for Washington’s films, but the fourth highest opening for a Western after last year’s The Revenant, the animated Rango, and Cowboys and Aliens. Storks’ $21.3 million opening wasn’t great compared to other animated September releases with Sony still holding the September opening record with Hotel Transylvania 2, but it should continue to do well with no other animated movies opening for another month. »

"You're drunk... You don't want to say something you're not going to be able to take back." Starz Digital has released a trailer for an indie comedy called Flock of Dudes, about a 30-something guy who decides to "break up" with his best buds in order to finally grow up. This also stars Jamie Chung, Hilary Duff, Eric André, Brett Gelman, Bryan Greenberg, Skylar Astin, Hannah Simone, Kumail Nanjiani, Hannibal Buress, and oddly Ray Liotta. I hadn't heard of this comedy before coming across this trailer, so I'm not sure where it came from, but it doesn't look so bad. There's some funny jokes, just hope there's more to it than bros being bros.
