In 2012, Microsoft look set to redefine interactive entertainment with a portfolio of games that will delight and excite gamers like never before. Across Xbox 360, Kinect, Xbox Live Arcade and Windows Phone, Microsoft are, according to their statement, “planning to deliver an interactive entertainment portfolio of blockbuster titles, experiences and add-on content” throughout 2012 – including some of the Xbox’s biggest franchises.

A couple of legendary designers and the rising stars of the Mmo field will drop some knowledge at Gdc 2012
Announcing a series of updates to the lineup of developers and game industry professionals sharing their experience and giving talks at Gdc '12, the inclusion of game development luminaries Sid Meier and Keiji Inafune make the event a must-attend if you care about the history of gaming or learning anything from the pros.
Meier is the brain behind Civilization, and he'll be heading a talk called "Interesting Decisions," guiding designers through ways developers can make decisions for gamers more interesting and rewarding. Elsewhere, Inafune, the co-creator of Mega Man who recently departed Capcom with some sharp words for the Japanese game industry will be delivering a talk on just that: in "The Future of Japanese Games," Inafune will discuss the challenges and opportunities for his country's game industry and ways that »

A second Xcom title is being developed by Firaxis games, gets Game Informer cover for February.
When 2K Games announced that they would be making a new Xcom game, fans of the classic PC action-strategy games (like myself) were excited and then almost immediately baffled by the revelation that the franchise's return would be a genre shift: instead of a tense strategy game set in the near future, we'd be getting a 50's-set Fps. It was a curious move and seemed out of step with what made gamers excited about the series—which is to say, tech and resource management and stalking creepy Greys across 1/3rd isometric map.
Well, it looks like by this fall we'll be getting Xcom in both its new Fps incarnation as well as the real-time/action-strategy game Xcom: Enemy Unknown as revealed in a press release from 2K Games. The developer, Firaxis Games, is responsible »
