The Weekend Warrior 2/17/17: Fist Fight, The Great Wall, A Cure for Wellness

15 February 2017 7:00 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.

This Past Weekend:

The Lego Batman Movie won the weekend as expected, but not with nearly as much money as I had predicted, not besting the opening of The Lego Movie as expected, but instead ending up with a reasonable and not so bad $53 million.  Fifty Shades Darker proved that the audience for movies based on the popular books was still great enough for it to win Friday with $21 million (to Lego Batman’s $15 million) and end up second for the weekend with a strong $46.6 million. That was still almost $40 million less than the opening of the previous movie Fifty Shades of Grey, but the sequel also didn’t have the benefits of Valentine’s Day and a four-day holiday. Justin Theroux Wishes Jennifer Aniston Happy Birthday with a Sweet Instagram Photo

12 February 2017 8:00 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Justin Theroux is showing his lady some love on her 48th birthday.

The actor, 45, used his Instagram to wish his wife Jennifer Aniston a happy birthday by sharing a rare selfie of the couple — and it’s adorable. The picture shows Theroux and Aniston close together while the actress blows a kiss to the camera, showing off her gold wedding band from their private ceremony in August 2015.

And Theroux kept the caption as simple as the couple are, writing “Hbdj” with a heart emoji and an “Xo” at the end.

Fantasy Fridays: Scully & Mfr Cast Masters Of The Universe!!

10 February 2017 11:08 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

We'd like to forget all about the last attempt at a live-action Masters of The Universe movie. Sorry, Dolph! Great hair, though.

Welcome back to another edition of Fantasy Fridays, where two real-life best friends (Jeremy Scully and I, Mario-Francisco Robles) get together to cast/pitch our dream movies.

In the past, we've tackled everything from The Batman to the Universal Monsters.

This week, we turn our attention towards the long-gestating cinematic reboot of Masters of The Universe. Jeremy and I grew up on the classic 80s cartoon, and I had a ton of the old action figures. Yet even we knew, as children, that the 1987 movie starring Dolph Lundgren was crap. That's why we'd like to put our own spin on what the reboot should look/feel like.

Over the years, many filmmakers and various studios have tried and failed to get a Masters of The Universe movie off of the ground. »

Damien Chazelle and Kenneth Lonergan are Neck and Neck in Original Screenplay Oscar Race — Here’s Why

10 February 2017 9:37 AM, PST | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

When the Academy moved Barry Jenkins’ script for “Moonlight” to the Adapted Screenplay category, the Oscar race for Original Screenplay became a battle between two writer-directors. While Damien Chzelle’s reboot of the Hollywood musical is a strong contender throughout its 14 nominations, and Oscar voters will tick plenty of “La La Land” boxes on their ballots, it’s still rare for an original musical to land a screenplay win. (Alan Jay Lerner’s “An American in Paris” and Mel Brooks’ “The Producers” are exceptions.)

That’s why lauded playwright and screenwriter Kenneth Lonergan could win this race.

Here’s how Original Screenplay is shaking out:

Kenneth Lonergan (“Manchester by the Sea”)

The Oscar could go to the comeback writer-director for his tragic New England family drama.

Lonergan initially struggled with “Margaret” star Matt Damon and John Krasinski’s story idea about a man with a tragic history who must face »

'The Office' Star Jenna Fischer (and Her Character Pam Beesly) Are Once Again Welcome to Dine at Chili's

7 February 2017 7:49 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Not all lifetime bans last a lifetime -- sometimes just 11 years.

Chili's has officially lifted their ban against The Office's Pam Beesly, played by Jenna Fischer, ending their grudge against the Dunder Mifflin character that was first sparked back in 2005.

In "The Dundies," the first episode of the second season of The Office, Pam got a little drunk at an inter-office award ceremony held at a Chili's (and then stole some drinks from other customers' tables), which resulted in her ban. But the chain restaurant is finally ready to put the incident behind them.

On Monday, Fischer called back to the iconic scene when she snapped a picture of herself standing in front of a Chili's sign looking nervous and wrote, "Should I try to go in?"

Chili's responded to Fisher's tweet with a callback of their own, writing »

The Office Star Jenna Fischer Is Officially Welcome at Chili’s Restaurants Again

This article originally appeared on Entertainment Weekly.

The ban has been lifted!

Having been banned from Chili’s more than 11 years ago for getting slightly too intoxicated, Pam Beesly is officially once again welcomed to go order as many margaritas and fajitas as her heart desires.

Beesly portrayer Jenna Fischer tweeted Monday from outside of a Chili’s restaurant, asking, “Should I try to go in?,” and the internet went nuts for the actress’ callback to The Office season 2 premiere, “The Dundies.” The restaurant got in on the fun by tweeting back at Fischer, but now they have taken it »

The Academy Awards are meant to celebrate the best that Hollywood has to offer us each year — but sometimes a few less-than-stellar films can slip through the cracks. It doesn’t happen that often in the major categories and, when it does, these duds usually pop up in the categories that fly under the radar. Let’s take a look at the films that meet the criteria of having been panned by critics and somehow landing an Oscar nomination this year and others in the 21st century.

Just to be transparent about the qualifications a film would need to meet to be included in this story, we’re looking at those that were at least nominated for an Oscar — if they won, even better — and that registered as “rotten” on RottenTomatoes.com. “Rotten” films would be »

The Exact Moment John Krasinski Turned Into Jim Halpert at the SAG Awards

30 January 2017 11:10 AM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

John Krasinski was on hand to present the SAG Award for lead actress in a motion picture on Sunday night (winner Viola Davis gave a beautiful speech), and there was a five-second sequence that you need to see. Right after Krasinski finished his bit about how awesome women are, he looked up to the screen on stage where the nominee segment is supposed to roll . . . but there was a tiny delay. After a couple seconds, he animatedly looked back into the camera and boom! Jim Halpert from The Office was reborn. The moment happens around 45 seconds into the video above. Apologies for the poor quality! »

John Krasinski Had an Important Message For Women at the SAG Awards

30 January 2017 11:00 AM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

John Krasinski looked too sweet with his wife Emily Blunt at the SAG Awards, but it was his speech during the ceremony that really made us swoon. While presenting the award for outstanding female actor in a supporting role, the actor gave a sweet shout-out to women everywhere in light of the Women's March. "As a father, and as a husband and as a human being, I am inspired by women every day," he told the crowd. He certainly wasn't the only celebrity to take a political stand during the show. Not only did Ashton Kutcher unapologetically call out Donald Trump's immigration ban, but Stranger Things' David Harbour dedicated his entire speech to acceptance and unity. »
