Ariana Grande is tearing up the charts, and apparently, also turning up her ego. According to a report, the 21-year-old singer took over a New York City hotel to prep for a performance. The Gossip Table‘s Marianne Garvey gives us the scoop.

On Saturday, Salma Hayek popped up at the show alongside her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, and she partied in the D'Usse VIP lounge alongside Kevin Hart, Nick Cannon, and Courtney Love. Ellen Pompeo and her husband, music producer Chris Ivery, proved that they were huge Bey and Jay fans as they attended both the Saturday and the Sunday shows. Meanwhile, Natalie Portman and her husband, Benjamin Millepied, and Jessica Alba and her love, Cash Warren, popped by the Sunday show. While couples were the big theme of both nights, Victoria Beckham made the event a family occasion as she took her 15-year-old son, Brooklyn Beckham, to the Saturday gig alongside her husband, David Beckham. Exclusive: Renowned choreographer to make feature debut with ballet drama Polina.

Renowned French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj will be in Cannes today (May 18) to unveil his upcoming ballet-based drama Polina.

Preljocaj, who is known globally for his high-profile productions with companies such as Sadler’s Wells and the New York City Ballet, will direct the work with Valerie Muller.  

“Preljocaj is very filmic and cinematic in his choreography so it’s exciting to be working on this film with him,” says TF1 sales agent Sabine Chemaly.

On a more mainstream level, Preljocaj is also known for choreographing Air France’s award-winning ad featuring Benjamin Millepied and Virginie Caussin dancing a metaphor to flight.

Polina follows the tale of a young girl from a modest background, growing up in Moscow in the early 1990s. A talented ballerina she manages to get into the prestigious Bolshoi ballet school but love takes her to France where she discovers contemporary dance.

Cannes: Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard to Star in ‘Prima’

London — Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard are set to star in “Prima,” produced by Daniel Dubiecki (“Juno,” “Up in the Air”) and Lara Alameddine of Los Angeles-based The Allegiance Theater. Embankment is selling international territories.

Farmiga’s credits include “The Conjuring,” “Safe House,” “Up in the Air” and “Orphan,” while Sarsgaard has appeared in “Blue Jasmine,” “Orphan,” “An Education” and “Jarhead.”

Farmiga stars as a mother who will stop at nothing to realize her daughter Jesse’s ballet dancing dream to play the coveted role of Sleeping Beauty. Sarsgaard plays a “devil in dance-shoes” instructor. The feel-good comedy about a badass just-teen ballerina starts pre-production this summer. The search for a 13-year-old newcomer is already under way.

Evan Greenberg, a NYC musical-theater director, will helm the pic. Choreography will be provided by Benjamin Millepied (“Black Swan,” “Paris National Ballet”) and Kurt Froman (“Black Swan,” “Billy Elliot” on Broadway).

Exclusive: Embankment boards ballet comedy also starring Vera Farmiga.

Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga are due to star in ballet comedy Prima, which sales outfit Embankment Films has newly boarded ahead of Cannes.

Choreography will come from acclaimed Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied, recently appointed director of dance at the Paris Opera Ballet, and Billy Elliot on Broadway choreographer Kurt Froman.

Farmiga has been cast as a mother who will stop at nothing to realise her daughter ballet dancing dream of playing Sleeping Beauty, while The Killing star Sarsgaard will play a ‘devil in dance-shoes’ instructor.

Producers are Daniel Dubiecki (Juno, Up in the Air) and Lara Alameddine of Los Angeles based The Allegiance Theater.

As previously announced, musical-theatre director Evan Greenberg will direct the project, a version of which was formerly with Highland Film Group.

Pre-production is due to get underway this summer, with the search underway for the role of the 13 year-old newcomer.

Having seen robust sales last year on Jia Zhangke’s “A Touch of Sin,” Xavier Dolan’s “Tom at the Farm” and Lisa Langseth’s “Hotell,” Paris-based MK2 is looking for further resilient arthouse business on “Don’t Tell Me the Boy Was Mad” the next film by Robert Guediguian.

The pick-up comes as MK2 preps a new program, Mk Live, a movie-series aimed at cinema theaters of the best of recent Paris theaters, musicals and operas.
