Battleship: Brooklyn Decker, Taylor Kitsch Brooklyn Decker has two box-office disappointments opening on the same weekend: Decker is featured in Battleship and What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Both movies opened way below expectations on Friday; in fact, official studio estimates released Saturday morning have them faring even worse than Friday night estimates indicated. Starring Taylor Kitsch, Peter Berg’s Battleship raked in $9m at 3,650 locations on Friday in the Us/Canada according to Box Office Mojo. That’s about $500k less than early estimates. For comparison’s sake: Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, at the start of its third weekend out, took in an estimated $15.3m. Box-office prognosticators were expecting Battleship to gross $40m on its first weekend out in North America. It turns out the alien invasion actioner / sci-fier will be lucky if it earns much more than $25m. A Universal release, Battleship cost a reported $209m. »

Jennifer Lopez, What to Expect When You’re Expecting Still going strong, The Avengers is on its third weekend out. Yet, the domestic box office is expected to be down 18% compared to last year because of three weak new entries: Peter Berg / Taylor Kitsch’s megabudgeted Battleship barely managed to stay afloat on Friday, while Sacha Baron Cohen‘s The Dictator (which opened on Wed.) and Kirk Jones’ all-star ensemble (Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Chace Crawford, etc.) What to Expect When You’re Expecting performed below expectations. [See Box Office: Battleship bombs.] The Dictator grossed an estimated $5.5m at 3,008 theaters on Friday, for an expected weekend total of $16m, as per Deadline.com. Sacha Baron Cohen’s R-rated comedy will thus reach a cume of $23m after five days. For comparison’s sake, Bruno — which was considered a major box-office disappointment following Borat — opened with $30.61m on its first weekend out in July 2009. Supporting Baron »

Warner Bros. has released an international trailer for Magic Mike, acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh's expose on the world of male stripping. Based loosely on star Channing Tatum's time spent onstage shaking his money maker for throngs of screaming women, this upcoming drama also stars beefcake babes Matthew Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, and Matthew McConaughey (who once again strategically figures out a way to remain shirtless throughout the duration of yet another movie). Watch as the gang makes old ladies sweat through their granny panties.
Magic Mike - International Trailer
Magic Mike comes to theaters June 29th, 2012 and stars Channing Tatum, Matthew Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Adam Rodriguez, Joe Manganiello, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Olivia Munn. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh. »

Although he was only briefly spotted in the first trailer, the Brits must love Alex Pettyfer. In a new UK trailer for Steven Soderbergh‘s male stripper story Magic Mike he is the primary focus, as he rises the ranks of stripperdom with Channing Tatum, in the film based on his own life. The trailer is actually more appealing than the domestic version, which geared heavily toward a somewhat generic romance.
As for Pettyfer, the actor who last appeared in In Time, Beastly and I Am Number Four is also gearing up for another project. Variety reports that he’ll lead the next film from Pascal Chaumeil (Heartbreaker), an English-language project titled Diamond Dogs. He’ll play a “popular high school quarterback whose life is turned upside down after he accidentally kills someone, a crime that his father, who is the local sherrif, is covering up.”

The nominees for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards have been unveiled this week, and as always, they are kind of hilarious if not downright random. But when you stop and think about it, are they any more ridiculous or arbitrary than the Oscars? Last year's MTV Movie Awards did at least acknowledge a few of the more "critically acclaimed" films of the year including The Social Network and Black Swan, but this year it's basically all teen entertainment, all the time. Ironically, this year they claim the nominees were selected by a panel of industry folks instead of the general public... go figure. Among the more creative categories this year they have introduced "Best On-Screen Dirtbag" and "Best Gut-Wrenching Performance" (whatever that means). The good news is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 may actually have a shot at winning some awards this time, and hey, Ryan Gosling »

Is The Hunger Games the new Twilight? If the new crop of nominees for the MTV Movie Awards are any indication, we might be in for a regime change. Along with Bridesmaids, The Hunger Games is leading the pack, including nods for male and female performance and movie of the year. Of course the real question will be whether or not Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson can take down Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for best kiss, a category the Twilight couple has dominated for the past three years. As for the rest of the nominees, big comedies from the year like Crazy, Stupid, Love and 21 Jump Street got a lot of love, as did the final installment in the Harry Potter series. There are also a handful of new categories, like best music and the oh-so-prestigious best on-screen dirt bag. Check out the full list of nominees before the »

Comedy ties with 'Hunger Games' for most nominations, with eight.

The story of "Bridesmaids" was that of a surprise success that really was anything but surprising.
Based on a hilarious script by star Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo (you know her as the flick's freaked-out airplane passenger), the comedy had a strong showing at South by Southwest and Judd Apatow's producer credit to slap on every poster. A modest hit seemed all but guaranteed, but what it became was a pop-culture phenomenon.
Can women be funny? It was the dumb question that every 24-hour media outlet wanted to ask when "Bridesmaids" premiered, but all anyone had to do for an answer was sit down and watch the movie. Yes, women are funny, and there are few clearer examples than "Bridesmaids."
The movie tells the story of Annie Walker (Wiig), a »

2012 MTV Movie Awards Nominees
Nominations for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards are out and even though several films racked up their expected nominations, the story is more about what's not there.
After dominating the ceremony for three years running, the latest Twilight movie (Breaking Dawn - Part 1) garnered two nominations. Two. Though it made it into Movie of the Year, the only other time the mega-hit franchise got its name called was for Best Kiss. This ends the three-peats of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in Best Female Performance and Best Male Performance, respectively, with co-star Taylor Lautner failing to pick up a third nomination, as well.
But if Twilight has been passed up, what took its place? The Hunger Games, Bridesmaids, and Harry Potter all made out like gangbusters, pretty well covering nearly every category. Throw in three nominations for the internet's boyfriend Ryan Gosling and nods for everything from »

Katniss Everdeen may have survived the Games, but we'll have to see how she fares against Kristen Wiig and her band of crazies — or, rather, ladies — as "The Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids" lead the 2012 MTV Movie Award nominations with eight apiece, including Movie of the Year.
That's not a typo: The usually dominant "Twilight" series and its 2011 entry, "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," nabbed only two nominations (Movie of the Year and Best Kiss), while movies like "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2," (six noms) "21 Jump Street" (six) and "The Help" (four) fared better and will have more chances at bringing home Golden Popcorn statues.
That's not the only shakeup we'll see at MTV's 21st annual celebration of all things big screen: New categories this year include Best Breakthrough Performance, Best Cast, Best Onscreen Transformation, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance, Best Onscreen Dirtbag and Best Music.
