Frank Ferranno was born to Frank and Deana Ferranno. His sister, Lisa, was born a year after him but was sent away for her down's syndrome after she was born. His father left the family when Frank was 3 years old. Often switched between his mother and his grandparents and moved several times. His mother remarried to a bass player in Frank Sinatra's band while she sang backup. Went to seven schools within 11 years. He moved out of his mother's home, living in the streets and sold drugs until he was kicked out. Went to live with his grandparents in Idaho and then to Los Angeles, California. Formed Motley Crue in 1981 with Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, and Vince Neil, after being in several bands. Changed his name to Nikki Sixx legally. In December of 1987, Nikki nearly died of an overdose. After the incident, Motley Crue went into rehab. Nikki married Brandi Brandt in 1989. They had 3 children, Gunner Nicholas (b. 1991), Storm Brieanne (b. 1994) and Dekker Nilsson (b. 1995). They divorced in November 1996. One month after the divorce, Nikki married 'Donna D'Errico' in December 1996 and they had Frankie-Jean Mary (b. 2001). After being shot full of heroin, actually left his body and, in effect, "died". Was revived by paramedics in the hospital. After this incident, he and the whole band were advised to kick drugs altogether.
Before settling on the name Motley Crue, the band considered such names as Trouble, Christmas, Bad Blood, and Suicidal Tendencies (the name of another, as-yet-unknown at the time hardcore L.A. punk band).
