19 May 2013 12:45 AM, PDT | ShockYa | See recent ShockYa news »

With the fall schedules of the five broadcast networks announced, there’s much to be anticipated. Each network has released detailed previews of a handful of its new shows. Based on trailers and series description, here are this fall’s most promising pilots Almost Human (Fox – Mondays at 8pm) This future-set cop show features Karl Urban, who proved his action capabilities in The Bourne Supremacy, as an injured police officer partnered with a robotic companion, played by Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell, Common Law). The concept is terrific, and as long as it doesn’t disappoint the way Terra Nova did after an ambitious and thrilling pilot, this could be one of the  [ Read More ]

New 2013 TV Series Breakdown: Fox

14 May 2013 9:52 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the second announced yesterday. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on Fox.

While "The Following" proved a breakout winner, Fox had few success stories last season. So, it is going a bit more ambitious this year with numerous dramas, comedies and one-off "event series".

Several pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen including the family of government-sanctioned assassins drama "Boomerang," the adaptation of Lauren Oliver's book trilogy "Delirium" about a world where love is illegal, the legal interns workplace comedy "To My Assistant," the U.S.S. Lexington-set "The Wild Blue," and "The List" about the hunt for a thief who stole a file containing the secret identities of people in the Witness Security Program,

Fox 2013-2014 Full Schedule Preview With Trailers And Images

14 May 2013 10:12 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.

Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.

Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

Seitz: Snap Judgments on Fox’s New Shows

14 May 2013 9:35 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Vulture's TV critic, Matt Zoller Seitz, will be watching and evaluating the early clips and concepts of each of the new shows unveiled at this year's upfronts. Here are his thoughts on Fox's shows — you can watch trailers for the dramas here and the comedies here. Almost Human The gist: In a dystopian future, a burned-out hotshot cop named Kennex (Karl Urban, looking and sounding kinda like Brad Pitt in Se7en) is paired with a “synthetic” partner named Dorian (Michael Ealy). Although the buddy cop premise screams Alien Nation, promo materials evoke a combination of dark sci-fi pictures: Robocop and Minority Report especially. And the fact that the robot is super-chill and the human impetuous suggests a Kirk-Spock dynamic. “I can’t say that I was born,” Dorian tells Kennex, “but I was made to feel, as much as you.”Gut reaction: Sci-fi geeks will be all over this in »

Are you ready for some mismatched future cops, brilliant but gambling-addicted lawyers, army antics and headless horsemen? Having announced its fall schedule, Fox has released trailers for its new series, which we've taken the liberty of putting in approximate order by quality from best to worst below. Do you agree? Take a look below and let us know if any of these shows strike you as notably watchable. The top of the heap is the J.J. Abrams' "Almost Human," a kind of buddy cop drama set in a future in which androids are commonplace, with Michael Ealy playing a discontinued model matched up with a robot-phobic Karl Urban. Abrams doesn't have a perfect record when it comes to TV, but this one looks impressively like a movie, and Ealy and Urban are interesting leads. Fall TV 2013: 'Sleepy Hollow,' 'Almost Human' and Greg Kinnear's 'Rake' lead Fox drama snap judgments

14 May 2013 12:20 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Last season, Fox only picked up two new drama series: the hit thriller "The Following" which was launched midseason, and the instant bomb "The Mob Doctor" which was launched in the fall.

Fox has doubled that amount for the 2013-14 season, but once again they'll only launch one show in the fall. That honor (or curse?) goes to imaginative looking reboot "Sleepy Hollow," while J.J. Abrams' "Almost Human" and Greg Kinnear vehicle "Rake" will be held for midseason and "Gang Related" will be slotted in later.

Here's a rundown of the four new dramas Fox presented to advertisers at its 2013 upfront on May 13 at New York City's Beacon Theater.

"Sleepy Hollow" (Mondays at 9 p.m. Et)

A slick and tantalizing re-imagining of the classic Washington Irving tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, from "Fringe" producers and "Star Trek Into Darkness" co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Tom Mison »

Abrams, and Kiefer Sutherland, the latter of whom will return for the miniseries 24: Live Another Day. On Monday Fox unveiled their primetime slate for the 2013-2014 television season to the national advertising community during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The network announced 5 new comedies, 4 new dramas, a first event series, and an animated comedy from Seth MacFarlane.

Some of today’s most inventive directors working in film have smoothly segued from motion pictures to series TV and their new shows have found a home at Fox. What caught my attention were the sci-fi, fantasy shows bearing the names of Abrams, Shyamalan, Kurtzman and Orci.

Among the network’s lineup is M. Night Shyamalan’s new event series Wayward Pines. Set to premiere in 2014 and based on the best-selling novel, “Pines,” by Blake Crouch, Wayward Pines is an intense, mind-bending thriller in which nothing is what it seems. Also on the Fox schedule is the »

All Hail the Official Trailers for Sleepy Hollow and Almost Human

Of course I was excited about these new Fox shows as soon as I learned about their Fringe provenance, but Wait Until You See These Trailers. It’s hard to get a real feel for a show just from the synopsis, but I’m including the new upgraded synopses for each so that you have all the information.

It appears that Sleepy Hollow will premiere early fall on Mondays at 9, following Bones at 8. After an initial run of Bones episodes, Almost Human will take the Mondays at 8 slot, in “late fall”.

But Oh The Trailers.

See Fox’s Trailers For “Almost Human” And “Sleepy Hollow”

13 May 2013 4:57 PM, PDT | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Two of the new dramas on Fox’s upcoming fall slate fall under our umbrella of interest. They are Sleepy Hollow and Almost Human.

Sleepy Hollow is a show from Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Lost, Star Trek, Transformers) that turns Ichabod Crane into a time traveling detective, out to take on the immortal Headless Horseman. Or something like that. It’s a funky National Treasure/Da Vinci Code-esque adventure, and has Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, Nicole Beharie, John Cho and Tom Mison.

Almost Human is the newest show from J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot, with Fringe showrunner J.H. Wyman also onboard, set in 2048, when cops are paired with androids. The cop is Karl Urban, the android is Michael Ealy, and we have Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook and Lili Taylor along for the ride.

'Almost Human' trailer: J.J. Abrams' futuristic buddy cop drama on Fox stars Karl Urban and Michael Ealy

When "Fringe" left the air, fans of the show were sad. Luckily, the team behind it has another new program coming this Fall. "Almost Human," from J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and J.H. Wyman, stars Karl Urban ("Star Trek Into Darkness") as a cop in Los Angeles, set in the year 2050.

Detective Kennix (Urban) returns to the police force after two years and is assigned a human-like android partner, played by Michael Ealy. Though the show is a mix of action and drama, there's a fair amount of comedy in the trailer as Kennix and his synthetic partner get adjusted to one another.

Also joining the cast are Minka Kelly and Lili Taylor. "Almost Human" is set to debut midseason, Mondays at 8 p.m. Et on Fox. »
