Julia Louis-Dreyfus is no stranger to politics. Growing up in Washington, D.C., she attended school with the children of several politicians, including Susan Ford, daughter of then-President Gerald Ford. "She was older than me, which was actually a bummer because the prom was held at the White House," Louis-Dreyfus says. "For Halloween one year, she went as Goldilocks and dressed her Secret Service agents up as the three bears." The actor is also friendly with former Vice President Al Gore through their mutual environmental causes, and Louis-Dreyfus campaigned for his 2000 presidential bid.Her personal experience, combined with the comedic timing and intelligence she brings to every role, makes Louis-Dreyfus the perfect choice to portray Vice President Selina Meyer on HBO's ruthless new comedy "Veep." The show was created by Armando Iannucci and Simon Blackwell, who earned Oscar nominations for scripting "In the Loop," an equally skewered take on British and. »

Armando Ianucci’s CV is fit to bursting with side-splitting stuff. If we’d forgotten, we got a reminder when he received a Writers Guild gong at this year’s Comedy Awards, and they played clips of his successes – Alan Partridge, The Day Today… It would not be overstating it to say that, along with Caroline Aherne and Ricky Gervais (arguably!), he has defined British comedy for his generation.
That’s right, British. So it was with no small bit of dread that I learned he and co-creator Simon Blackwell were taking In The Thick of It stateside, building on the Oscar-nominated success of In The Loop, and putting home-grown humour into the White House for Veep – describing the boil and bubble that go into running the smooth-looking machine of the Vice-President’s office.
The good news is that, from the first episode alone, they've done it. Instead of pandering to any American expectations, »

Anyone remember the 2009 political-satire "In The Loop"? The film was a festival hit and featured a side-splitting performance from Peter Capaldi as political hot-shot Malcolm Tucker. That film was, in fact, a spin off original BBC show "The Thick Of It" -- both of which are the brainchild of Armando Ianucci. Attempts had been to remake the show for HBO and while there was a pilot shot, it was one Ianucci wasn't a fan of and was never picked up.
But the good news is that Ianucci has now developed a whole new show for the cable-channel titled "Veep," starring Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as the Vice President of the U.S. The first trailer has now been unveiled and exhibits a behind-the-scenes, political satire very much in the vein of its predecessors, and it promises to deliver some seroius laughs.
As was the case with the "The Thick Of It," we're »
