Linda Perry was once the explosive, artfully decadent frontwoman of 4 Non Blondes, but she’s since evolved into a megastar of the songwriting community, coauthoring singles with P!nk, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, and Gwen Stefani. Now, the 48-year-old industry vet is the producer of the fundraiser An Evening With Women, a benefit for L.A.’s Gay and Lesbian Center, that takes place this Saturday and features host Kathy Griffin and performers Ozzy Osbourne, Natasha Bedingfield, and Sia.
We caught up with Perry to discuss her involvement with the Center, making people cry by dropping Christina Aguilera’s name, and being a “wonderful chameleon” of the songwriter world.
The Backlot: You’re producing this event, so I imagine you’re too stressed to be excited about it yet, but what’s your favorite part of the gala?

Sony, the company behind the Walkman, Django Unchained and Michael Jackson's back catalogue, was established in Tokyo in 1946. As the top 12 took the stage to prove what they’ve got on May 13, Usher couldn’t handle how hot the performances got — it caused him to start shedding his clothes.

Usher’s Team: Not Just Another Song & Dance
For Usher, we didn’t think anything could shine brighter than that diamond necklace — until his team took the stage.
Vedo kicked off the show, by taking on Michael Jackson‘s “Rock With You.” He proved he could both since and dance, while he took on some of Mj’s moves. All the coaches liked the performance, and even Blake Shelton said that it didn’t take away from his singing.

The 19-year-old was shown struggling with nerves before wowing the judges with her performance of 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World' on this weekend's show.
Speaking to DS, O'Sullivan explained that her lack of confidence stemmed from a fear that she would "mess up that first impression" on stage.
"I've always been shy at first and then once I get to know someone they'll probably get sick of me," she said. "I'm quite bubbly when I get to know someone.
"I've always been a big girl and I've always thought, 'Will they like me?' First impressions are everything, so if you mess up that first impression, I always think everyone's going to hate me. I've been shy and nervous because of that.

It may sound like the title of a nature documentary, but Muscle Shoals actually takes its title from the name of a small town in Alabama, which became the breeding ground for some of the most defining American music of the twentieth century. Director Greg Camalier tells the story of the town and its iconic music studios, and he enlists the help of a ridiculously impressive line-up of talking heads to help him do so.
Through a combination of fresh interviews and archive footage, we hear from the likes of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Steve Winwood and Wilson Pickett, to name but a few. Bizarrely, though, we’re introduced to the film by a voiceover from none other than Bono, and it’s particularly bizarre because not only do U2 never feature in the Muscle Shoals story presented in the film, »

A shocking elimination left everyone in tears on the May 9 episode of ‘American Idol.’ Are you happy with the top two?
After the top three girls — Angie Miller, Candice Glover and Kree Harrison — sang their hearts out on the May 8 episode, one talented girl was voted off the show on May 9. Do you agree with the results, HollywoodLifers?
‘American Idol’ — A Shocking Elimination
First the girls sang Selena Gomez’s “Who Says” with a minor technical difficulty in the beginning.
The girls wanted to give back so they went to sing with the Lacha Jazz Choir.
We watched some highlights from last night before mentor Jimmy Iovine weighed in.
“In the beginning of the show, they all felt a little nervous.” Jimmy said Angie not playing the piano for “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word” was a big mistake. Instead of having a big moment, she got a 9/10.
