Review: A Good Creature is Wasted in Animal

20 June 2014 8:40 AM, PDT | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

In some respects, Animal is a cut above the usual Chiller fare. It boasts a much better pedigree. It’s executive produced by Drew Barrymore and her Flower Films production company. The creature design and effects are by Gary Tunnicliffe (Scream 4, My Bloody Valentine, Feast). The music is by tomandandy (The Hills Have Eyes, The Strangers). The cast is full of familiar faces including Jeremy Sumpter (Frailty, Excision), Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy), and Amaury Nolasco (2 Fast 2 Furious, Transformers). Unfortunately, in just about every other way it’s business as usual.

Film Review: ‘Small Time’

20 April 2014 9:49 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Joel Surnow, co-creator of “24,” steps away from guiding Jack Bauer in saving the country to examine one tiny corner of it in “Small Time,” his aptly named bigscreen directorial debut, featuring a fine cast that’s logged plenty time on the TV beat. A warm-hearted coming-of-age family drama grafted onto a comic buddy pic, the film focuses on a used-car dealer whose son joins him on the lot after graduating from high school, to the dismay of the ex-wife he still has feelings for. Hamstrung narratively by third-act longueurs and limited theatrically by a bizarre R rating that shuts out its natural family audience, the movie will find customers on the smallscreen, where Starz-owned distributor Anchor Bay figures to have a ready customer.

A pre-credits sequence establishes Al Klein (Christopher Meloni, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) as a caring father, while defining the relationship between Al and business partner Ash Martini (Dean Norris, »

Stars: Gina Carano, Cam Gigandet, Ismael Cruz CordovaLuis Guzman, Amaury Nolasco, Danny Trejo | Written by James Robert Johnston, Bennett Yellin | Directed by John Stockwell

Former Mma star Gina Carano, who rose to fame following her starring role in Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 action-thriller film Haywire – although she had previously appeared in low-budget actioner Blood and Bone alongside Michael Jai White – returns to the action genre, and a leading role, with In the Blood, the latest film from actor/director John Stockwell (Cheaters, Crazy/Beautiful).

In the Blood sees Ava (Carano) and Derek (Gigandet), a newly married couple, honeymooning in the Caribbean who are befriended by a local hustler, Manny (Cordova), who talks them into going to a night club where they get into a fight with the locals. The next day, whilst out zip-lining with Manny, Derek gets into an accident and is taken to hospital. However when Ava shows up looking for her husband, »

Check Out The Trailer & Poster For Upcoming Horror Film ‘Animal’

18 April 2014 1:37 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Animal, another one of the ‘cabin-in-the-woods’ style horror movies, albeit this time with a great, big creature rather than and form of living or evil dead after a group of horny teenagers, is coming to screens in the Us in June, and today the trailer for the film debuted over at Entertainment Weekly.

The film is actually produced by Drew Barrymore’s production company Flower Films, and directed by Brett Simmons.

Keke Palmer, Amaury Nolasco, Parker Young, Joey Lauren Adams, Elizabeth Gillies, Paul Iacono, Thorsten Kaye, and Jeremy Sumpter star.

Not sure what to make of this one, but I personally dig this kind of horror flick, and that monster (see below) sure looks dangerous, and hungry for some meat.

Check out the trailer and poster for this film below. This one opens in the Us in cinemas and on VOD on June 17th, 2014. There is no UK release date set as yet. »

Refurbished: Surnow’s Debut a Casserole of Cliché

Seasoned television writer and producer Joel Surnow makes his directorial debut with Small Time, based on an autobiographical screenplay he wrote in the mid-1970s and has since retooled. While exuding a certain amount of polish that confirms an understanding of look and tone, the film feels resoundingly cliché and inescapably dull. Despite originating from the creator’s own life experiences, the film feels overtly familiar, to such a degree that it fails to resonate visually, emotionally, or narratively. Humdrum in every sense of the word, Surnow’s film may indeed be a passion project made for his own enjoyment; unfortunately, it fails to be of particular interest to anyone else.

Al Klein (Christopher Meloni) and his best bud Ash Martini (Dean Norris) own a used car lot and happen to be quite adept at what they do, often working in tandem to score sales. »

In the Blood Movie Review

Title: In the Blood Director: John Stockwell Starring: Gina Carano, Cam Gigandet, Treat Williams, Danny Trejo, Luiz Guzman, Amaury Nolasco, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Stephen Lang If we’re keeping tabs on the evolving filmography of ex-mixed martial arts fighter and future “The Expendabelles” centerpiece Gina Carano, “In the Blood,” from director John Stockwell, slots considerably below “Haywire,” her at once lithe and bruising collaboration with Stephen Soderbergh. And yet there’s still a certain ramshackle appeal to the film, a starchy, “Taken”-meets-”Turistas” revenge picture which could just as easily be titled “Woman on Fire.” “In the Blood” centers around Ava (Carano) and Derek Grant (Cam Gigandet), a newly married couple who head to the Caribbean  [ Read More ]
