As a concert promoter and producer; John Long helped to launch the careers of many recording artists i.e. Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Hall and Oates, The J Geils Band, Earth Wind and Fire, and ELO to name just a few. He went on to create several ahead of their time television pilots including, Do It Yourself, a home Improvement show, Body Mind Connection, a health-food cooking show, Gallery TV, a tour of art museums, New Country Television, showcasing country music videos (a year before CMT) and a ground breaking pilot called Touring Historic America created before there was a History Channel. He is currently proposing, Touring Historic America to the History Channel.

HBO hired John Long and Janice Dickinson as Factual Consultants for the movie Gia because of their close friendship with the real Gia. The movie launched the career of Angelina Jolie; who won a Golden Globe for Best Actress.
