Given her parents' occupation, she has traveled extensively, and it has exposed her to different cultures, lifestyles and attitudes. But she was brought up in touch with African and Kenyan values despite a lot of moving in between different parts of the world.

The eldest child in a family of four, Mary has been pursuing her goal to become an international and worldly person since childhood.

Being in movies and acting was originally not in her plans for the future as she was more interested in modeling.

While in Australia, she started doing commercials which involved some acting.

Small guest parts in movies were now being offered to her; then, she got her big break in Star Wars. The casting call for Lucasfilm was very organized, and according to her, the staff knew what they were doing and what they were searching for, but the competition, for the actors, was tough.

Just like in any other movie, the look of the person is an important thing.

Personal Quotes (3)

This is one of the things they were looking for, and in my case, as I was later told, as soon as I walked in the casting room they knew I was the right person for the part.
Oh, I love the Star Wars fans! I like hanging out with them, signing autographs and getting to know a little bit about them, like where they are from, which characters they like and so on.
I must say that it can kind of freak one out the way one day someone is sort of 'anonymous' and the next day there are lots of strangers all wanting to meet you, talk to you and even have your autograph.
