Nicolas Cage seeks revenge against a religious sect in action thriller Mandy

9 June 2017 3:30 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

According to Deadline, Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in the action thriller Mandy, which is being directed by Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow).

Set to begin production this summer in Belgium, the film takes place in 1983 and will see Cage as Red Miller, a broken and haunted man out for revenge against an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life.

“Panos is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making,” said Daniel Noah of SpectreVision. “Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers is unfathomably exciting to us.”

Cage has several projects incoming this year, including The Humanity Bureau, Mom and Dad, Looking Glass and Inconceivable. He is also currently in production on the »

8 June 2017 2:27 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

As scary as a cabin in the woods can be, one of the most disturbing backdrops for a film can be the college culture, where horrors that are all too real sometimes take place. Such is the case in Natalie Leite’s M.F.A., which made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival (read Heather's review here) and has now been acquired for Us distribution by Dark Sky Films.

Press Release: New York, NY (June 8, 2017) - Mpi Media Group announced today that it has acquired all rights in the U.S. to M.F.A., a critically acclaimed powerful thriller starring Francesca Eastwood in a stand out role. The film, from female director and female screenwriter, takes on the searing current issue of sexual violence on campus. Even though Nicholas Cage has made some really dubious choices in projects to appear in, he has also made a fair few cracking ones too. Confirmation has just come through that Cage will be starring in Mandy, an action thriller from Beyond the Black Rainbow helmer, Panos Cosmatos.

The new project, which is due to start filming this summer in Belgium is set in the primal wilderness of 1983, where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life and is being described as “Heavy Metal Story of Demon Bikers”

“Panos is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making,” said Noah, SpectreVision’s Head of Development. “Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. If you’ve ever wanted to see Nicolas Cage battle demon bikers (and let’s be honest, you have), then you’re in luck. Per Deadline, Cage will star in Mandy, from Beyond the Black Rainbow director Panos Cosmatos, to be released by SpectreVision, Xyz Films & Umedia. The brief official plot synopsis sounds like something akin to Death Wish meets The Wicker Man (both the original and the Nicolas Cage version with the bees) :

Mandy is set in the primal wilderness of 1983 where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life.

SpectreVision Head of Development Daniel Noah describes the film as a “surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers,” which sounds right up Cage’s alley. Cosmatos, whose last film was one of the best sci-fi features of the century thus far, has described his next »
