Sundance 2018 Ushers In the Age of Independent TV With Indie Episodics Line-Up
At the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, TV is invading the schedule in a whole new way. The Park City film fest has previously dabbled in what’s possible on the small screen, but this year marks the launch of the Indie Episodics section — which will spotlight TV pilots that mostly lack mainstream distribution.

The selections include “America to Me,” a new docu-series by “Hoop Dreams” director Steve James; as well as “The Mortified Guide,” a screen adaptation of the popular stage show “Mortified,” spotlighting the most embarrassing true stories of adolescence. There’s also “This Close,” showcasing star/creators Josh Feldman and Shoshannah Stern (both of whom are deaf), and “Franchesca,” featuring digital star and “The Nightly Show” writer/contributor Franchesca Ramsey.

This marks a major change for Sundance, and a renewed commitment to independent television. While Sundance has featured TV programming since the premiere of “Top of the Lake” in

Supernatural season 11 episode 11 review: Into The Mystic

Compared to last week's extraordinary instalment, though good, Supernatural's latest episode is a more workmanlike affair...

This review contains spoilers.

11.11 Into The Mystic

This week, we’ve a locked room mystery on our hands in Into The Mystic. After a cold open in Ireland featuring a shrieking, floating woman, a man bashing his own head in and a baby left to fend for itself, we find the boys investigating the case of a man brutally killed inside his own room with no signs of a break-in. Sam’s still reeling from his run-in with Lucifer so Dean tries to get him back on track, figuring that they’ve got nothing to work on the Darkness yet. Of course, they’re both blissfully unaware that Castiel is no longer in residence and Lucifer has taken over his meatsuit, intent on stopping the Darkness in his own, unique way.

Another Period, ‘Ep. 1.01: “Pilot”: Helen Keller meets Cocaine

Another Period, Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot”

Written by Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome

Directed by Jeremy Konner

Airs Tuesdays at 10:30pm (Et) on Comedy Central

Another Period is more satire than parody, as it tackles our society’s perverse fascination with the lifestyles of the rich and famous by framing its turn of the century-era setting through the gauze of modern reality television. The twisted brainchild of Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome, the pair also star as Lillian and Beatrice Bellacourt, two parvenus who hope to raise their family’s social standing. In the pilot, the pair aspire to become members of the Newport 400 (“the 400 most important white people in all America”) after their best friends and rivals, the Claudette Sisters, die of TB. Their plan, however, is foiled when their older sister invites Helen Keller (Shoshannah Stern) over, exposing their social climbing ambitions.

Hunter talks Sex, Drugs & Ending This Role

Hunter talks Sex, Drugs & Ending This Role
My very first on-camera celebrity interview was with Hunter Parrish. We met to discuss his role in Broadway's Spring Awakening when he took over for Jonathan Groff (bless those casting Gods) in 2008. Here's what I remember about our first meeting: Hunter was a charming guy who hadn't yet been corrupted by the business. Four years later I'm happy to report he is still the same affable, funny and open person.

We sat down after Showtime brought out his entire Weeds cast for their final appearance at The Television Critics Association as the series is set to wrap up an exhilarating eight season run this September. Hunter and I looked back on Silas' evolution, the massive volume of flesh he bared over the years and what he considers his best on-screen moment (spoiler alert: those last two things have nothing to do with one another).

Hunter Parrish: I'm pretty

The Hammer (Hamill) – Sliff Review

Inspirational sports films are a dime a dozen, with a notable few that stand out, such as Mystery Alaska, but rarely does one rise to the surface as an exceptionally memorable experience for viewers. For the most part, there.s a standard formula by which these films follow, neither good nor bad, but it.s a formula that works so it rarely changes. This is an important concept to keep in mind while watching The Hammer.

Directed by Oren Kaplan, The Hammer (also known as Hamill) follows this formula closely, handing in an accomplished but familiar inspirational sports story of a young man rising to become the best, in this case as a wrestler. There.s nothing shameful in this, as the goal of such a film is to inspire audiences after all. The difference in this case, is in the subject matter and a particular creative choice which I

Lie to Me Season Three Premiere: What Did You Think?

  • TVfanatic
We had been told that the Lightman Group would be “going rogue" in the third season of Lie to Me. As a result, this week’s season premier offered us a look into this new style.

Overall, the episode made up for the dismal offering that was the season finale three weeks ago. Gone was the disjoined and fractured writing. In its place was the new use of slow motion close-ups as flashes of what Lightman sees, along with stable and coherent story telling, even when revealed out of order.

Also gone was Agent Reynolds. In his place is Detective Sharon Wallowski, a no-nonsense cop who works and thinks a bit like Lightman. Unlike Reynolds - who seemed to question Lightman at every turn, no matter how many times he was proven correct - Wallowski allowed Lightman to take the lead. It was a refreshing and fun change.

Mekhi Phifer is being let go from Lie to Me.

Forever best known for her role on Battlestar Galactica, Helfer appears on TNT's Dark Blue. She also recently guest-starred on Burn Notice and Human Target.

Lie to Me returns for a third season on November 10. Other big-name guest stars will include Anna Gunn and Shoshannah Stern.
