Great Job, Internet!: Vin Diesel and his cohorts embark on an epic quest with Dungeons & Dragons

3 August 2016 12:00 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Vin Diesel is a huge nerd, both literally and figuratively. The once (and future?) Riddick and star of the Fast & Furious franchise is famed for his love of Dungeons & Dragons. In fact, he even based his movie, The Last Witch Hunter, on a character he created for the game. And for all those Last Witch Hunter fans out there, he reprises the role of Kaulder in a game of D&D with Geek & Sundry on an epic quest filled with investigations, knocking, flaming swords, and various amounts of intrigue. The campaign is well-plotted and overseen by the excellent Dungeon Master, Matthew Mercer. Diesel is joined on his campaign to rid the land of an evil curse by Geek & Sundry cohorts Laura Bailey, Dan Casey, Jessica Chobot, and Travis Willingham. It’s a spirited and fun game and great look into how these sessions proceed for those unfamiliar »

When you play a game with the Batman moniker, there are certain expectations that come along with it. Batman: The Telltale Series – Episode 1: Realm of Shadows meets all of these, adding a few welcome surprises to boot. It really is the best of both worlds, however tired that phrase may be: while it isn’t afraid to shake up the Batman universe a bit, it also preserves the time-tested elements that make the franchise so adored by so many people. I’ll try to keep this review as spoiler-free as humanly possible, but even analyzing certain elements of the story on a surface level is bound to reveal some key information — so take that for what it is. You have been warned.

Furthermore, before today, we didn't even know when the first episode would come out.  Finally we have confirmation that Batman- The Telltale Series' first episode "Realm of Shadows" will be available for download on August 2, 2016.  This lines up perfectly for the release of the Season Pass hard copy on September 13, 2016.

Telltale Reveals "Batman" Game Details

12 June 2016 12:03 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Ahead of E3 kicking off, Telltale Games has revealed first look photos from the upcoming "Batman: The Telltale Series" episodic video game series. Set to premiere digitally on home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices, Telltale will be privately showing the game to guests at the convention throughout the week.

"Batman – The Telltale Series" will be on game consoles as a special 'Season Pass Disc' which will be available at retailers across North America, Latin America, and Europe later this summer, granting access to the five episode season as it becomes available for download.

Rendered to look like a living, breathing comic book, Telltale's take on Batman boasts an award-winning cast including Troy Baker in the role of Bruce Wayne, Travis Willingham as Harvey Dent, Erin Yvette as Vicki Vale, Enn Reitel as Alfred Pennyworth, Murphy Guyer as Lieutenant James Gordon, Richard McGonagle as Carmine Falcone, and Laura Bailey as Selina Kyle. Additional cast and characters will be revealed as the season progresses.

In a statement, Telltale Games CEO and Co-Founder Kevin Bruner says: "We've been hard at work at Telltale creating an all-new iteration of the iconic Batman story that puts players in the suit of billionaire Bruce Wayne, just as much as it will put them behind the mask, deciding how to carefully navigate a complex drama, rich with action, crime, corruption, and villainy lurking around every corner of Gotham City. The complex life and fractured psyche of Bruce Wayne has lent itself to becoming a bold evolution of the signature 'Telltale' role-playing experience, and we couldn't be more excited as we prepare to debut the series to players across the world this summer."

I’m not just speaking of the various characters who have held the Robin mantle, but Batwing, Batwoman and several Batgirls.
