Commissioner of Baseball from 4 February 1969 (elected on a pro-tem basis) to 1 October 1984. He was legal counsel for the club owners before his election.
Banned Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle (8 February 1983) and Willie Mays (29 October
1979) for accepting employment with two Atlantic City casinos. They
were reinstated by Kuhn's succesor, Peter Ueberroth, on 18 March
1985.
