As one half of the comedic duo behind "Little Britain," Matt Lucas has stayed relatively close to his lighter wheelhouse when venturing onto the silver screen featuring in "Bridesmaids," "Gnomeo & Juliet" and the upcoming "Small Apartments." The actor, though, is in line for a bit of a gear change, joining Charlie Stratton's adaptation of Emile Zola's period-drama "Therese Raquin."
With a strong cast featuring Jessica Lange (who replaced Glenn Close), Elizabeth Olsen, Oscar Isaac and Tom Felton, the story centers the titular young woman (Olsen), trapped in a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin Camille (Felton), who enters a passionate affair with her husband's best friend Laurent (Isaac), with tragic results for everyone involved. Lucas will play Olivier, a policeman who, along with his inspector father, regularly calls upon the Raquin family.
EW are also describing the film as a "dark, erotic thriller" which, we guess, is the »

After unveiling "The Trip" last year and with "Trishna" arriving this summer, the prolific and versatile Michael Winterbottom shows no sign of slowing down, and is currently-lensing "The King Of Soho," his biopic of porn baron Paul Raymond that'll reunite the helmer with regular collaborator Steve Coogan. Courtesy of some set photos, we now have our first look at the actor as Raymond as well as first glimpses at Tamsin Egerton and Anna Friel as Raymond's mistress and wife, respectively.
Described by producer Andrew Eaton as a "combination of Larry Flynt and Hugh Hefner," Raymond was pornographer, strip club owner and impresario who managed to accumulate a fortune of close to £650 million (or just over a billion dollars) after buying up property in the central London area of Soho. Certainly a character and story which should make a fascinating period drama-comedy and, no doubt, another showcase of the excellent Winterbottom-Coogan partnership ("24 Hour Party People, »

Production on Pain and Gain should get underway just about any day now, so I’ll bet this casting from Variety is one of the last Michael Bay‘s movie ever gets. (Unless he decides to take a dive in that modeling pool.) With this late-in-the-game addition, we’re hearing that Tony Plana (Ugly Betty, Lone Star) is coming aboard in the role of “Capt. Al Lopez of the Miami Police Dept., who begins to look into the kidnapping of Marc Schiller (Tony Shalhoub) at the urging of his old friend, private detective Ed Du Bois (Ed Harris).” It’s safe to assume you already know this, but — for the sake of consistency — the kidnappers in question are played by Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, and Anthony Mackie.
Also coming from Variety is the news that Soul Man himself, C. Thomas Howell, will follow The Amazing Spider-Man with an indie crime »

We feel fairly confident in saying that Michael Winterbottom, or at least his casting director, is a big comedy fan. His lighter work, like "24 Hour Party People," "A Cock And Bull Story" and "The Trip" didn't just help to launch the big-screen careers of Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, but also provided early cinematic exposure for British comedy favorites like Dave Gorman, Peter Kay, Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran, David Walliams, Ashley Jensen and Stephen Fry.
And as he's re-uniting with Coogan again on "The King of Soho," a biopic of legendary London porn baron turned property millionaire Paul Raymond, the trend looks to continue. Filming is already underway with Anna Friel, Imogen Poots and Tamsin Egerton as Raymond's wife, daughter and mistress respectively, but a few more comic names have announced via Twitter as the latest cast members.
First up is Chris Addison, the stand-up turned actor who's best known »

Michael Winterbottom is busy gathering a solid cast to surround Steve Coogan for his latest film, King Of Soho. He’s just nabbed Anna Friel, Tamsin Egerton and Imogen Poots to co-star.Soho finds Winterbottom back in 24 Hour Party People mode, using the real story of a larger-than-life personality to drive a film. In this case, that is club owner and porn publisher Paul Raymond, whose power and influence across London’s seedier side grew between the late 1950s and the early 1990s. Kicking off his career as a 22-year-old mind reader on Clacton Pier, he graduated to running touring revue shows and launched the first British strip club. He also published the likes of Razzle and Mayfair. Dubbed the “King of Soho” by the press, he had run ins with the Lord Chamberlain’s office, the police, and was the target of more than one extortion attempt.Control writer »

As prolific as any actor and director combo working today, Steve Coogan and Michael Winterbottom are continuing their collaborations with the upcoming The King Of Soho. Coogan will play Paul Raymond, a strip club proprietor and porn publisher who gained prominence in the 60s and 70s in swinging London. And to help with the swinging, Witterbottom has brought in British actresses Imogen Poots, Anna Friel and Tamsin Egerton to portray the various woman in Raymond's life. Variety reports that Poots, Friel and Egerton have joined the period piece that instantly reminds me of the Winterbottom-Coogan 24 Hour Party People where the latter portrayed the famous indie music producer Tony Wilson. Just substitute the late 70s/80s indie music scene for the late 60s/70s swinging sex scene. (I've got to stop saying swinging). The film, written by the talented Matt Greenhalgh (who also wrote Control, which is another odd connection to »

The man of many faces, Steve Coogan, will re-unite with his 24 Hour Party People and Tristram Shandy: A Cock And Bull Story director Michael Winterbottom for another true-life tale. The Alan Partridge legend will play British porn publisher Paul Raymond in The King Of Soho, a moniker given to him by the national media. A man who amassed a multimillion pound fortune, from what many see as the ‘seedy world’ of the porn business.
Joining Coogan will be Brit beauties Anna Friel (Limitless), Tamsin Egerton (St. Trinian’S) and Imogen Poots (Fright Night). Nowhere Boy and Control scriptwriter Matt Greenhalgh has penned the screenplay.

Just as Michel Gondry gave one of his next projects a new title as they added a cast member, the Michael Winterbottom-directed Paul Raymond’s Wonderful World of Erotica can now be referred to as something a little more concise while, most importantly, getting a more fleshed-out lineup. According to Variety, Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies), Imogen Poots (Fright Night), and Tamsin Egerton (Camelot) will join Steve Coogan in the newly-named King of Soho.
Scripted by Nowhere Boy and Control scribe Matt Greenhalgh, Soho is a biopic of Paul Raymond, the British strip club owner and “pornographer” who found himself in an extreme position of power during the late ’50s and early ’60s — all as he possessed much of London’s West End. This has been public knowledge for some time, though, so it’s a shame that Variety couldn’t provide some details on who’s playing who for Winterbottom; major parts, »
