Hugh Jackman May Not Return for The Wolverine Sequel

6 December 2013 9:11 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last month, we reported that Hugh Jackman is developing a follow-up to The Wolverine with director James Mangold. While development is still ongoing, the actor revealed he isn't quite sure he wants to return as Logan.

"I don't know whether or not I will do this next movie. I am really proud of this movie and I am excited to develop something with Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride. That's exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn't reach those, I won't be doing it."

When asked if there was a screenplay in place, the actor said there is no writer attached.

"No there is not but Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas but there is no script and »

The Wolverine - 20th Century Fox - Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD Director: James Mangold Cast: Hugh JackmanHiroyuki SanadaSvetlana KhodchenkovaBrian TeeWill Yun Lee. Full cast + crew It's a safe bet that The Wolverine will be better remembered than its box office would indicate. It only made $133 million in the U.S., which put it far behind the bigger superhero movies of the year (Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and Thor: The Dark World), and you'd think that would mine the film is a stinker, but that's just not the case. The reality is that fans probably felt they had Wolverine fatigue, and assumed this one probably wasn't any better than Wolvie's last solo film. It is, though. It's much, much...

‘The Wolverine: Extended Edition’ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Hugh Jackman, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, Hiroyuki Sanada, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Brian Tee, Hal Yamanouchi, Will Yun Lee, Famke Janssen | Written by Mark Bomback, Scott Frank | Directed by James Mangold

In case you hadn’t noticed, there was another Wolverine film out this summer. Hugh Jackman took his cigar-smoking, brow-furrowing, claw-snikt-ing anti-hero to Japan in what was his sixth outing as Logan.

The last solo outing for the mutton-chopped one was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a film that was bad enough for me to turn off halfway through and seemingly nixed any future ‘Origins’ spin offs, most prominently the mooted Magneto movie. Still, audience affection for the Canadian crime fighter, as well as an ever-game Jackman prompted the production of this outing, with Walk the Line director James Mangold at the helm.

Hugh Jackman and Director James Mangold Reteam for Third Wolverine Movie

5 November 2013 8:41 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The Wolverine team of star Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold is reuniting for a third Wolverine spin-off movie. This will be the 8th time Hugh Jackman has played the popular mutant, after two solo films and five X-Men movies, including this summer's X-Men: Days of Future Past. This will be the longest any actor has played the same superhero on the big screen.

The Wolverine was a modest success in the States, bringing in $132 million from a $120 million budget. Its reception was lukewarm, and many doubted we'd ever see Hugh Jackman suit up as the troubled mutant Logan again after X-Men: Days of Future Past. But the latest standalone adventure has become an international success, pulling in over $280 million overseas for a total gross of $413 million worldwide. Because of this, 20th Century Fox has pushed Wolverine 3 into production.

The Wolverine overtakes X2 to become the second-highest grossing X-Men movie

29 October 2013 12:59 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Hugh Jackman's second solo outing as the adamantium-clawed Logan may not have set the box-office alight domestically, with The Wolverine earning just $132.1 million during its North American run - the lowest of any X-Men movie to date. However, the James Mangold-directed solo sequel has enjoyed healthy returns internationally and, having opened strongly in China two weeks back, the film has surpassed the $407.7 million worldwide haul of Bryan Singer's X2: X-Men United this past weekend to become the second-highest grossing instalment in 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise behind 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand.

The Wolverine is based upon Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's acclaimed 1981 miniseries and sees Logan heading to Japan at the behest of Shingen (Hiroyuki Sanada), an old acquaintance who claims he can put an end to Logan's immortality. Also featuring in the cast are Will Yun Lee (Total Recall) as Kenuichio Harada, Brian Tee »

If you haven't inhaled Season 2 of Mortal Kombat: Legacy (review) yet - Shame! For those of you that have (okay, if you still haven't, you can look, too), we have a special treat...

I was given the chance to talk to creator/director Kevin Tancharoen as well as some select cast members, and what they had to say was both enlightening and inspiring.

DC: How did Mortal Kombat: Legacy go from short film to series?

Kevin Tancharoen (pictured above; director): It was kinda crazy how it just happened organically because a lot of people timed it out perfectly, but my short film (Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) went out two days before the launch trailer for Mk Viiii was to be released at E3, so all of a sudden, Mk was the thing to talk about in general and I couldn't believe the timing worked out so perfectly; if it had been any other time, »

Film Review: ‘Wedding Palace’

28 September 2013 3:44 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Too many stretches of “Wedding Palace” are so garishly lit and broadly overplayed that they seem more cartoonish than the actual animated sequences that pepper the live-action production. That’s a pity, since this indie romantic comedy is not without its minor charms during its infrequent quiet moments. Theatrical prospects appear dim for helmer Christine Yoo’s debut feature, a mostly frenetic concoction about a Korean-American advertising exec who’s pressured by his parents to marry before falling victim to a family curse. But the pic might provide some amusement for simpatico auds in home viewing platforms.

After years of hearing horror stories about what happens to any male in his family who fails to wed before turning 30, 29-year-old Jason Kim (Brian Tee) is more than a little rattled when he’s left standing at the altar by Jinnie (Joy Osmanski), his impetuous (and unfaithful) fiancee. But he quickly recovers from his trauma when, »

‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy II’ – Full Season is Now Online!

The wait is over: Director Kevin Tancharoen is back with the second season of his acclaimed web series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy!

As we saw in the trailers for Mortal Kombat: Legacy II, this new installment will follow characters like Liu Kang (Brian Tee) and Kung Lao (Mark Dacascos) - both of whom appear in this premiere – as they and others join  Raiden (David Lee McInnis taking over the role) to battle  forces from the dark realm of Outworld, led by evil sorcerer Shang Tsung (original Mortal Kombat movie star, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa).

This first episode is only a tease, really, but it nonetheless evidences several important things that will carry over into the rest of the season:

The production values are definitely improved, with much of the series having an almost soap-opera look to them, with some creative visual flare.  The action direction is also much improved, with episode ...
