It's never been easy being a Turtle fan. After an awful first, but surprisingly financially successful, outing in 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paramount and Nickelodeon went back to the drawing board, finding a new director in Dave Green (Earth to Echo), and bringing on some new cast members, and for the first time since the 1990 film, fans have been given what boils down to the best Tmnt movie to date, in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

The story picks up a few years after the 2014 movie. The turtles: Leo, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey are still protecting New York -- but doing so in secret. Everything they do, up to and including taking in a Knicks game, is done from the shadows. Movie Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

6 June 2016 12:11 PM, PDT | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

Full Disclosure: I grew up a product of the 1980s and 1990s, which means I was a big fan of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books from Eastman & Laird, the original cartoon, and the first batch of live action Turtles flicks. I still have fond memories of riding my bike to the Fox Village Theater to see the original live action flick multiple times. Hell, I even had the movie novelization and soundtrack.

If the above disclosure describes you in way or the other, then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows was made with you in mind. It essentially feels like an almost two-hour apology to the hardcore fans of the series. As the movie runs along, tonally it felt like a live-action adaptation of a four-part episode of the original cartoon. In a sense, Out of the Shadows does for Ninja Turtles what G.I. Joe: Retaliation »

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows opens to $69 million

6 June 2016 5:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s Turtle Power once again as the Heroes in a Half-Shell have topped the Us box office, but it’s not pizzas all round.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows [read our reviews here, here and here] opened against romance flick Me Before You and comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping to earn an estimated $35 million, knocking X-Men: Apocalypse from the top spot. The bad news however is that this is a 46% drop-off from 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which opened to $65.5 million. Worse still, the sequel’s budget had been increased by $10 million, so this is not the news Paramount would have hoped for. In terms of domestic totals, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is looking to make $90-$100 million, a huge drop off from its predecessor.

Worldwide, the movie opened in 40 markets and earned around $34 million with the UK delivering the highest revenue. That brings the Turtles total to $69 million. »

Shredder as Namor? Brian Tee Wants to Play Sub-Mariner

5 June 2016 8:30 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

According to Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, Marvel has regained the rights to Namor the Sub-Mariner. Who should play him? We have a volunteer already. Brian Tee from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows wants the part.

While on Kevin Smith’s Podcast ‘Fat Man on Batman’, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada said that the rights to Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner are finally back at Marvel Studios. This is welcome news for the comic fans who have been hoping that the character would one day appear in an McU movie. Namor was the very first character Marvel ever created (back when they were called Timely Comics) so he has a special place in comic history, and deserves to be used in a film.

So who would play him? How about Brian Tee. (Shredder the Sub-Mariner!) Tee, who can be seen in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows »

Ninja Turtles 2 Wins the Weekend Box Office with $35.2M

5 June 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After winning at the box office with $65.3 million over the three-day weekend and $80 million over the four-day holiday, 20th Century Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse wasn't expected to win two weeks in a row. Three newcomers hit theaters this summer weekend, with Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Warner Bros.' Me Before You and Universal's Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping arriving in wide release. As expected, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows came out on top, but it was still much lower than projected, winning with an estimated $35.2 million.

Box Office Mojo reports that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows had the widest debut this weekend, opening in 4,071 theaters, although that count still came in under the 4,153 theater roll-out of X-Men: Apocalypse, which dropped to second place with $22.3 million, a 66.1% drop from its debut. Me Before You took third place with $18.5 million, opening in 2,704 theaters, »

One Actor Is Already Campaigning To Play Namor In The McU

Times change, and with that comes a changing of the guard. The current roster of Avengers and Marvel heroes cannot maintain their respective roles forever, and with that in mind the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has started to bring new heroes into the fray. One character that hasn’t debuted yet in the McU is Namor the Sub-Mariner, despite the fact that he’s a fan favorite. The rights to the aquatic-themed character recently returned to Marvel, and one Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actor wasted no time starting his campaign to nab the role.   During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, actor Brian Tee expressed a profound interest in taking on the role of Namor the Sub-Mariner. ‘Ninja Turtles 2’ Leading With Moderate $36 Million at U.S. Box Office

4 June 2016 8:03 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The opening of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” is dominating a moderate weekend at the U.S. box office with an estimated $36 million, slightly better than half of the original’s launch.

Paramount’s action-comedy sequel took in $12.5 million at 4,071 sites on Friday, easily outdistancing the first day of Emilia Clarke’s romantic drama “Me Before You” at $7.8 million at 2,704 locations and the eighth day of “X-Men: Apocalypse” with $6.6 million.

Fox’s ninth version of its “X-Men” franchise was headed for a second weekend of $22.3 million at 4,153 locations, in a sharp 66% decline that’s typical of “X-Men” titles. “Apocalypse” will finish the frame with more than $116 million domestically.

Me Before You,” which generated an A Cinemascore from attendees, looks likely to wind up the weekend with $18.3 million — at the top of recent forecasts.

Universal’s surreal Andy Samberg comedy “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” launched quietly with $4.8 million at 2,311 screens. »

Synopsis:

As Shredder joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman and henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady to take over the world, the Turtles must confront an even greater nemesis: the notorious Krang.

90s cartoon nostalgia seems to be the recipe for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, following up on a somewhat disastrous reboot that tinkered with the origin story of the heroes in a half-shell, along with presenting them as grotesquely hideous over-sized CGI monstrosities. Yes, I realize the word ‘mutant’ is in their description, but they look like anthropomorphic turtles that are abusing steroids.

Box Office: ‘Ninja Turtles 2’ Heading for Drab $30 Million Opening Weekend in U.S.

3 June 2016 2:30 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” is heading for a drab $30 million opening weekend in the U.S. — less than half its predecessor’s debut, early estimates showed Friday.

Paramount’s action-comedy sequel was performing at the lower end of forecasts with an opening day of $11 million at 4,071 locations. New Line-mgm’s Emilia Clarke romancer “Me Before You,” on the other hand, is performing  better than expected in the $6.5 million to $8 million range on Friday. Universal’s surreal Andy Samberg comedy “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” launched quietly with $1.5 million.

Out of the Shadows” earned $2 million during Thursday night preview screenings — less than half the preview take from the original “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and a strong indication that the premise of wise-cracking pizza-loving terrapins battling to save the Earth may be wearing out its welcome. In the wake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hitting the big screen back in 2014, very few critics were asking for more where it came from. General audiences, however, made the film a smash hit success at the box office, so it was only a matter of time before those heroes in a half shell returned to do battle with villains much more outlandish than The Shredder. In the interest of full disclosure, I’m one of those few critics who was asking for more back in 2014. And I sure am glad we got it.

Late in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, one of our heroes tells another to simply accept the insanity around them and “just roll with it.” By the way this sequel turned out, it’s easy to see how that mantra might have guided the film’s development from the very start. After all, the 2014 franchise reboot divided fans of the heroes in a half-shell by making some radical changes to the mythology, earning unfavorable comparisons to producer Michael Bay’s Transformers films. Considering that Megan Fox assumes the role of April O’Neil and the climactic battle involves a very robotic-looking Shredder, the film’s critics certainly were at least somewhat justified in their collective response.

However, where that first film truly falters is in its understanding of what fans expect when they decide »
