Called "Mr. 2,500" as a reference to the number of recordings in which he participated.
King Curtis promised the then-18 year old Dupree a job if Dupree continued practicing the guitar. A year later, Curtis brought Dupree to New York to join Curtis's band, the King Pins.
Self-taught guitarist who performed and recorded with Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, Miles Davis, and Lena Horne, among others.
He is survived by his wife, Erma Kindles; three children, James Cornell, Cornell III, and Celestine Maria; and nine grandchildren.
