Comic-Con: American Dad Panel Featured a Look at Season 9, Which Dialogue Patrick Stewart Refused to Say and a Music Video from Rachael MacFarlane

15 July 2012 12:11 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

The animated series American Dad is entering its ninth season and appeared at a Comic-Con panel to give the audience a sneak peek.  The panel opened with a psychedelic clip show that was half preview and half fan appreciation.  Patrick Stewart himself introduced the sequence and some of the flashed clips included the various faces and costumes of Roger (Seth MacFarlane), a suicidal lemur, various attempts by Stan to jump a chasm and a tearful farewell from Roger.  The panel featured MacFarlane, Wendy Schaal, Scott Grimes, Rachael MacFarlane, Dee Bradley Baker, Mike Barker, Jordan Blume and Matt Weitzman. Hit the jump to check out my panel recap and click here for all of our continuing Comic-Con coverage. This may have been one of the more awkward panels of the day as all of the stars appeared to be a little out of it (perhaps from partying to hard the night »

Comic-Con 2012: Schedule of Headliners

2 July 2012 4:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.

For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.

See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know. »

'Family Guy,' 'Simpsons' writers protest 'Community' animated episode on Emmy ballot, want 'same rights'

18 June 2012 4:10 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent - Inside TV news »

Updated: Animated series writers are protesting a decision by the Television Academy to allow NBC’s Community to compete for Emmys in animated categories, arguing that they should be allowed similar cross-genre privileges.

Community made it onto the Emmy nomination ballot in several categories, including best animated program — along with 33 entries from full-time animated shows. The episode, “Digital Estate Planning,” features the cast rendered into 8-bit characters to compete in an old-school-style video game.

Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy), David X. Cohen (Futurama) and Al Jean (The Simpsons) are among the 52 writer-producers who signed a letter to the TV Academy arguing »

20th Century Fox Television Announces 2012 Comic-Con Slate

11 June 2012 5:30 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

20th Century Fox Television has announced its 2012 Comic-Con schedule, which we therefore present to you here. Not that they’re offering much that we cover here at SciFi Mafia, except for one of my top two shows. Hey Wait A Minute – Argh! No American Horror Story! Well, given that they’ll probably be shooting, and that Ryan Murphy has indicated that he’d like to keep as much of it under wraps as possible, that’s probably not a huge surprise, though it is a disappointment.

We already learned about the Fringe panel from Warner Bros last Thursday, and… that’s it for us with Fox, except for Futurama which is also produced by 20th Century Fox Television. But for those of you who watch shows that we don’t usually cover here, well, here you go:

Sdcc 2012: Fox Announces TV Lineup: ‘Sons of Anarchy’ To Bring Packed Roster

8 June 2012 4:13 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

Twentieth Century Fox followed Warner Bros by announcing their Comic-Con lineup Friday and there are some good shows descending on San Diego and some notable omissions. Glee fans will be surprised that the comedy/drama won’t show up. I’m also surprised that Kiefer Sutherland’s Touch won’t be making the trip.  On the positive side,  Sons of Anarchy is coming fully stacked this year, with more fan favorites than ever before. Before we get to that, let’s check out the schedule.

Friday, July 13

Bones (Fox) – What better day than Friday the 13th to check out the latest with the Bones cast and crew? Stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel will be present along with producers  Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan.

Bob’s Burgers (Fox) – Archer! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Actor H. Jon Benjamin, who impeccably voices FX’s title character from Archer, will be on »

DVD Playhouse – May 2012

By Allen Gardner

Shame (20th Century Fox) Director Steve McQueen’s harrowing portrait of a Manhattan sex addict (Michael Fassbender, in the year’s most riveting performance) whose psyche goes into overload when his equally-troubled sister (Carey Mulligan) visits unexpectedly. Exquisitely-made on every level, save for the screenplay, which makes its point after about thirty minutes. While it tries hard to be a modern-day Last Tango in Paris, this fatal flaw makes it fall somewhat short. The much- ballyhooed sex scenes and frontal nudity are the least-interesting things about the film, incidentally, which is still a must-see for discriminating adults who seek out challenging material. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.

Being John Malkovich (Criterion) Spike Jonze’s madcap film of Charlie Kaufman’s script, regarding a socially-disenfranchised puppeteer (John Cusack) who finds a portal into the mind of actor »
