This year's Greenroom for the 88th Oscars Ceremony will transport presenters and nominees to what feels like a late 20th century private home high up in the Hollywood hills. Built entirely from scratch and located just steps away from the Dolby Theater stage, the room is meant to feel like "some place very familiar, and very American, but with distinct European highlights," according to a spokesperson for Rolex, whose interior design team created the space. The cozy main room is characterized by "warm but subtle tones of the walnut wood, beige leather and Venetian stucco" and features a wooden bookcase illuminated by recessed lighting. »

Jessica Chastain, Queen Latifah and More Launch Female-Empowerment Production Company

Jessica Chastain, Queen Latifah, Juliette Binoche and Catherine Hardwicke have joined production company We Do It Together to produce films and TV that boost the empowerment of women.

The nonprofit is planning to develop a slate of “inspiring” films by and about women to ensure future opportunities for known and emerging voices within the industry. The first film will be announced in May at the Cannes Film Festival.

The board of directors includes producer Albert Berger; Dda Partner Dana Archer; the Gersh Agency’s Sandra Lucchesi; Mosaic manager Paul Nelson; producer-director Carol Polakoff; producer Shelby Stone; producer-philanthropist Chiara Tilesi; and “Septembers of Shiraz” writer-producer Hanna Weg.

Michelle Yeoh has been making movies since 1984, making cameos in a few Sammo Hung movies such as Owl Vs Bumbo and Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Stars.

Universal and Perfect World Pictures of China Complete $500 Million Film Slate Deal

Perfect World Pictures and Universal Pictures announced the completion of a $500 million slate financing deal of up to five years that will make the Beijing-based maker of films, television programs and online games a major investor in one of Hollywood’s most successful studios.

Word of the deal came in an announcement from Jeff Shell, the chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, and Michael Chi, the chairman of Perfect World. It will cover the co-financing of 50 films or last for five years, with specific pictures within the deal to be announced later. The pact will not alter Legendary Entertainment’s co-financing of some Universal films. Legendary was recently purchased by another Chinese firm, Dalian Wanda.

Wong Kar-wai’s Jet Tone Films Ltd. will be honored at the upcoming Hong Kong Film Festival on March 21 to April 4, 2016 and some of the production company’s well-known movies will be screened during the course of the festival in spring.

Zhang Ziyi to Star in ‘East/West’ Comedy for Universal

Universal Pictures is developing cross-cultural comedy “East/West,” starring Zhang Ziyi with TV director Jason Winer attached to direct.

The studio is developing the movie with Ling Lucas. Tory Metzger and David Linde will produce, as will Ziyi and Winer.

Ethan Sandler and Adrian Wenner (“We Hate Paul Revere,” “New Girl”) will write the script. The studio is keeping plot details under wraps. Sara Scott will oversee “East/West” for Universal.

Winer is a veteran TV director and executive producer, most recently on “Life in Pieces” for CBS and 20th Century Fox TV, where he has an overall deal. He has also directed many episodes of “Modern Family” and “The Crazy Ones.”

He is a co-executive producer of “Modern Family” and won a Directors Guild of America Award in 2010. He was nominated for two Emmys for directing “Modern Family” episodes.

Winer directed the remake of “Arthur” in 2011 for his first feature film credit. »

Universal Poised To Close $500 Million Slate Deal With China’s Perfect World (Exclusive)

China’s Perfect World Pictures will unveil a five-year, $500 million  movie slate funding deal with Universal Pictures in the coming days, sources familiar with the pending transaction said. The move would make the Shenzhen stock exchange-listed games and TV production group the latest Chinese company to invest significant funds in a Hollywood entertainment giant.

The new collaboration follows barely a week after the announcement that Dalian Wanda would pay $3.5 billion for leading Hollywood producer Legendary Entertainment. The Universal/Perfect World partnership could be revealed as early as next week, sources said.

The $500 million investment is said to be split evenly between debt and equity contributions to the Universal movie slate. Sources familiar with the deal said Perfect World’s investment would get it a 25% share of most, but not all, of the films released by Universal, which led all U.S. studios in box office returns in 2015, with films like “Jurassic World, »
