Killers of the Flower Moon had a remarkable amount of musician cameos: Jason Isbell, Randy Houser, Sturgill Simpson, and even Jack White all turned up. But Pete Yorn’s role may be the most literally explosive — the New Jersey singer-songwriter plays a mysterious hitman hired to blow up a house.
Yorn returns to his day job this week with the release of his new song “Someday, Someday.” It’s an introspective acoustic number that finds Yorn ruminating on a relationship that’s been relegated to the fringes of life, and features Rami Jaffee,...

The following post contains spoilers about "Killers of the Flower Moon."
The horrors inflicted upon the Osage people during a string of ghastly murders throughout the 1920s are among the worst atrocities ever committed against Indigenous Americans. Anyone familiar with U.S. history during the Old West will know that's saying a lot. Based upon the 2017 book by David Grann, director Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" uncovers the systematic infiltration of nefarious white men into the lives and affairs of the Indigenous Osage Nation after vast deposits of oil were found on their land. The enormous wealth the Osage possessed led to a string of mysterious deaths that were always deemed accidental or never investigated in the first place.

In recent years, a handful of Asian American musicians have made a name for themselves in the American music scene. There's indie rock artist Mitski, Michelle Zauner of the genre-defying band Japanese Breakfast, and house DJ and producer Yaeji. The list grows a bit longer if we count Grammy-winning mainstream artists like H.E.R., Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno Mars, and Anderson .Paak, all of whom have some Asian heritage. However, they're the notable exceptions in an industry in which Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (Aapi) are still grossly underrepresented and underpromoted, despite the wealth of musical talent that exists within the community.
In contrast, many K-pop stars - the majority of whom hail from South Korea - are now more successful and famous in the US than most Aapi artists. This striking paradox speaks to...

Exclusive Media are producing and will finance the film with Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids, Knocked Up) on board to help Executive Produce. Depending on how much involvement Apatow really has in the picture could dictate whether his usual stable of actors will land supporting roles.
The film was officially announced by Exclusive Media today and they released the following synopsis;
“Seduced by dreams of making it in the big city, Gretta (Johansson) and her long-time boyfriend move to New York to pursue their passion for music. She’s heartbroken...

Scarlett Johansson will make her directing debut on the indie film Summer Crossing, based on a Truman Capote novella. It's about an 18-year old rich girl who tries to break free of her smothering family in Post World War II-New York City. Oscar winning producer Barry Spikings (The Deer Hunter) will produce and actress/playwright Tristine Skyler will adapt the novella into a screenplay.
Johansson seems open to mixing things up in her career. She's also pursued a singing career, most recently putting out a solo album of covers as well as a duet album with Pete Yorn.

At the Minneapolis, Minn., stop on their record-shattering "360 Tour," U2 dedicated “Stuck In A Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” to the late Amy Winehouse, who passed away Saturday at the age of 27. "We wrote this next song for Michael Hutchence, but you will understand tonight if we play it for Amy Winehouse,” Bono said before playing the song.
“Stuck In A Moment” was written for Hutchence, the lead singer of Inxs who committed suicide in 1997. The singer was a close friend of the members of U2.
The gesture is the latest of many that have flooded in since Winehouse’s passing. On Saturday night, just hours after the news broke, M.I.A. released the demo “27” on her Soundcloud in the “Back to Black” singer’s honor. “I recorded this song B4 vickileekx and never put it out,” M.I.A. said on Twitter. “It's a unfinished demo.

It feels like it was just yesterday when Scarlett Johansson’s musical chops seemingly came out of nowhere with her partnership with Pete Yorn on the duo’s 2009 record, Break Up, but the actress has continued to tap into her talent and has just been confirmed as a cast member in Once director John Carney’s newest big screen musical....

Scarlett Johansson is set to show off her singing skills on the big screen after signing up to play a young star in a new Judd Apatow movie.
The actress will lead the cast in Can a Song Save Your Life?
Apatow will produce the film, which will be directed by John Carney - the man behind hit 2006 film Once.
Johansson has somewhat of a musical pedigree - she released an album of Tom Waits songs, Anywhere I Lay My Head, in 2008, and a year later she teamed up with Pete Yorn for an album of duets.

She's certainly not a novice in the world of music having released an album of Tom Waits' covers, Anywhere I Lay My Head and contributed to Pete Yorn's 2009 album Break Up but Scarlett Johansson has yet to belt out any tunes on the big screen until, that is, the man behind sleeper hit Once came knocking.
According to Playlist, Irish writer-director John Carney, who's collaborating with a-finger-in-every-pie-man Judd Apatow, went to Los Angeles to meet the lovely Miss Johansson recently and has nabbed the erstwhile Woody Allen muse and ridiculously attractive 27-year-old to star in the sweetly-named Can A Song Save Your Life? And to anyone who has had music take up a meaningful place in their hearts and minds, the answer to that question veers heavily towards yes.

[1] Scarlett Johansson may seem like an unlikely lead for a Judd Apatow film, but in this context her casting actually makes a lot of sense. Johansson has signed on to star in Can a Song Save Your Life?, which will be written and directed by John Carney (Once) and produced by Apatow. The film follows “a washed-up A&R man who forms a passionate bond with a young singer-songwriter (Johansson) from out of town.” The project calls for Johansson to sing, which shouldn't be a problem for the actress. Johansson is in fact a professional singer, having released an album of Tom Waits covers titled Anywhere I Lay My Head back in 2008 and a collaboration with Pete Yorn called Break Up in 2009. Though the male lead has yet to be cast, Mark Ruffalo and Jim Carrey have been rumored as possibilities. (Fwiw, I vote Ruffalo.) Shooting on the film will...

Slinky Black Widow Scarlett Johansson is known for her acting chops and sultry looks more than her vocal stylings, despite releasing a slew of Tom Waits covers and a collaboration with Pete Yorn.
Now she's going to bring her golden voice to the big screen with John Carney's new movie, "Can a Song Save Your Life?"
Carney, who wrote and directed the beloved musical romance "Once," has paired with Judd Apatow on the new film in what's surely one of the oddest creative couplings of recent years. Apatow will serve as executive producer on the film, which centers on a dreamy young chanteuse and her relationship with a "washed-up" record label dude. Jim Carrey and Mark Ruffalo could be up for the role of Johansson's costar according to Hollywood buzz.
The film marks a staggering departure from the low-fi indie world of "Once," boasting a $10 million budget compared to the approximately $150,000 spent making "Once.

Can a song save your life? Have you ever asked yourself that question? Well, just in case your answer is ‘yes’, here’s the perfect project for you – the upcoming John Carney’s movie titled Can A Song Save Your Life?
Interesting title, and even more interesting rumors, because we’ve just learned that Scarlett Johansson is set to star in it, while Mark Ruffalo and Jim Carrey have been rumored as the possible leads!
Set in New York, the film tells the story of a washed-up A&R man who forms a passionate bond with a young singer-songwriter from out of town.
Of course, Johansson is set to play that young singer, and logically, she will sing a number of songs in the film.
That’s not such a surprise, after all she has previously released an album of Tom Waits covers and collaborated on a record with Pete Yorn.

Hollywood actor teams up with Bristol band to cover George Gershwin's Summertime for Mexican movie soundtrack
Massive Attack have collaborated with actor Scarlett Johansson on the soundtrack to a forthcoming Mexican thriller. Dias de Gracia (Days of Grace), directed by Everardo Gout, also features original music by Atticus Ross, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, and Shigeru Umebayashi.
Dias de Gracia is a tale of murder and kidnapping split across three separate storylines, with different composers scoring each narrative thread. Each segment takes place during a different World Cup final, in 2002, 2006 and 2010.
Bad Seeds Cave and Ellis scored the 2002 story after Gout heard their work on The Proposition and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. "They created a piece that superbly integrates sounds, noises, urban and animal backgrounds, that could have only been composed by them," he said.

Midway through the marathon 17-hour Miami Music Week event, the bikini-clad crowd was treated to back-to-back-to-back sets by Joachim Garraud, Alex Gaudino and, of course, Rivera.
Garruad debuted massive new tracks from his upcoming album, Invasion 2011, bringing his signature edgy stab synth (fans know it from his work on David Guetta tracks like "World Is Mine" and "Love Is Gone"). Garruad's sound is captivating, and the enthusiastic crowd responded by waving hands and fists high in the air.

Five Albums You Should Be Listening To Right Now Every two weeks, titans of the mediasphere give Nerve their music recommendations. This week: Nic Harcourt, long-time Kcrw DJ, film/TV music supervisor, and creator of The LiveBuzz, a new site from Buzzmedia specializing in live performance sessions, interviews by Harcourt, photograpy and concert reviews. Check out LiveBuzz sessions with My Morning Jacket, The Drums, David Gray, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Pete Yorn. Delta Spirit, History From Below I've liked these guys since a couple of years ago when I heard their first record, I Think I've Found It. There's a no-nonsense attitude from these guys, and anyone who's seen them live will attest to that. Their second album, History From Below, (with songs like "Bushwick Blues" and "White Table") steps it up and delivers on the San Diego natives' early promise. [...]...

I'm exhausted. There's a lot of random things I could rant about for an acceptable amount of page space (In particular, the idea that the iPhone can prevent teenagers from sending each other sexy text messages. Anyone who has spent any time around teenagers is well aware that they can turn event the most mundane words and scenarios into double entendres. Ex: "Hey, can you grab me a cup?" "I'll grab Your cups. Yeah!" Also: 5318008.) but I've been having trouble sleeping all week and I'm at the point of just barely managing to function in a socially acceptable manner. If this week were going on any longer, I'd probably end up somewhere in public without pants or wearing my bra on the outside of my shirt and when someone pointed it out I'd respond with "So's your Face!" or something equally witty and then pass out while standing up. I'm not saying it's happened before,...

Singer-songwriter Pete Yorn makes a splash in the video for "Sans Fear," the first single off his new self-titled album. In the clip, the musician—lately off his collaboration with Scarlett Johannson on Break Up—strolls the beaches of Malibu where he encounters all manner of unusual characters: sunbathers, pirates, a mermaid and a surfer who looks a lot like Darryl Hannah. And hey, is that Lauren Conrad? (No actually, but we were fooled.) Directed by Eric Ernest Johnson and awash on a Beach Boys musical vibe, it's just the kind of thing to keep summer alive as the weather turns cold and chilly. Enjoy!

Now that I have a job that I have to drive to, I've noticed certain things about commuting which cause me irrational levels of annoyance. I'm not talking about bad driving; watching someone merge across three lanes of traffic without signaling at 70mph only to slam on the brakes when they get in front of you because the person in front of Them is only going 40mph is going to piss off anyone. (Side note: you ever notice how no one ever thinks they're a bad driver? Everyone always thinks they're an awesome driver and it's all those other idiots who are the problem. No one ever says "Yeah, I don't signal. I'm just an asshole like that.") I mean the stuff that has absolutely no bearing on your life but you can't help but notice and form an opinion on. In my case, it's people using their Maseratis and Lamborghinis to commute.

Pete Yorn is open to suggestions. 2009’s Back And Fourth saw Yorn handing much of the instrumentation over to a backing band for the first time, and he only released Break Up, his album of Serge Gainsbourg and Bridget Bardot-style duets with Scarlett Johansson, after friends pressed him into it. Now, the self-titled album he bashed out with Pixies frontman Frank Black before the recording sessions for Back And Fourth is seeing the light of day, and in spite of Black’s assertion that he was attempting to strip Yorn and his songs down to their core essences, the ...

I approach The Promise: The Making of the Darkness on the Edge of Town with the preconception no documentary can capture the passion and brilliance of Bruce Springsteen lyrics – delivered with his iconic, gritty, working class voice. Springsteen is a storyteller, an ethnographer of the working class capturing something I fail to put into words – and luckily this documentary has helped me understand why I respond so deeply to The Darkness on the Edge of Town: Springsteen composed and assembled his albums with an emotional rawness that adds an immediacy that makes his music still fresh. He has continued to inspire, spewing a Jersey Shore sound that is carried forth today by such artists as Pete Yorn and The Gaslight Anthem. In the interest of full disclosure I’m from New Jersey.
