Fandango Signs Ticketing Pact with Marcus Theaters in the Midwest

Online movie ticketer Fandango has signed its first-ever agreement with Milwaukee-based Marcus Theatres, the nation’s fifth-largest exhibitor with 685 screens.

The deal was announced Tuesday along with the opening of CinemaCon. It will go into effect in the fall and bring Fandango’s screen count up to more than 26,000 in the U.S.

Fandango, a unit of NBCUniversal, said the addition of Marcus Theatres will make it the largest online ticket-seller for the nation’s top seven theater chains (Regal, AMC, Cinemark, Carmike, Marcus Theatres, Southern and Harkins).

As part of the multi-year deal, Marcus will link its online and mobile sites directly to Fandango as its preferred ticketing partner. Marcus operates in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and Ohio.

Fandango To Ring In Summer Movie Season With ‘I Love Movies’ Web Series

Fandango will soon launch a large-scale promotional campaign, and a new web series will be a significant part of that push. The movie ticketing service, which has expanded into online video over the past two years, will premiere I Love Movies, in which notable people will talk about their favorite films.

I Love Movies, which is set to launch on May 6th, will feature celebrity guests like Tony Hawk, Slash, and Larry King, who will discuss movies like Rocky, Finding Nemo, and The Naked Gun. Fandango is able to provide footage from these movies thanks to its ownership of the Movieclips brand, which it purchased from Zefr in April 2014.

Fandango Makes Movie Tickets Hands-Free on the Apple Watch

The ticketing company will launch one of the Apple Watch's first entertainment apps April 24, when the gadget begins shipping to customers. Fandango Partners With Hulu to Launch Its First Ever VOD Channel

Fandango is partnering with Hulu to release its first ever subscription video-on-demand channel.

The channel will begin streaming during the first quarter of 2015. The announcement was made Tuesday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“We are excited to deliver our original video programming to Hulu subscribers,” Fandango President Paul Yanover said in a statment. “Our Hulu partnership helps us extend Fandango video content onto new platforms, meeting a growing demand for premium movie-related content among moviegoers and Hulu fans alike.”
