Into the Badlands actor Daniel Wu joins 2018’s Tomb Raider reboot

As 2018’s Tomb Raider reboot gears up to start shooting very soon, the film’s cast is beginning to come together. Following the news that Walton Goggins has signed on to play the main antagonist, Variety reports that actor Daniel Wu is joining the cast as Lu Ren, a ship captain who teams up with Alicia Vikander’s titular character “on a quest to find her father.”

Wu has over 70 credits to his name and has been working in the film and TV industry for almost two decades, but he’s undoubtedly best known in the Us and UK for his roles in last year’s Warcraft and AMC’s Into the Badlands. When it comes to video game to film adaptations, hopefully Tomb Raider is more successful than Warcraft, which, although wasn’t an outright flop, received poor reviews and is unlikely to be granted a sequel.

Warner Bros. recently announced the movie — from Norwegian director Roar Uthaug — will be released on March 16, 2018.

Wu will play Lu Ren, a ship captain who partners with Croft on a quest to find her father.

MGM joined the project in 2013, acquiring rights to the video game to develop the feature in partnership with Graham King’s Gk Films. King, who obtained “Tomb Raider” in 2011 from Square Enix, will serve as producer.

Cassidy Lange is overseeing production for MGM and Niija Kuykendall is handling production for Warner Bros.
