Tom Cruise Performed His Own Death-Defying Airplane Stunt in American Made

6 July 2017 3:16 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

When the first American Made trailer debuted last month, it featured a number of scenes with Tom Cruise's character Barry Seal piloting a small aircraft, which he used to smuggle drugs in and out of the country. Today we have word from director Doug Liman that it was actually Tom Cruise in the cockpit for those scenes, flying the plane himself, while performing a number of other tasks that made this stunt even more dangerous than it looks. Here's what director Doug Liman had to say about this insane plane stunt in American Made.

"Flying extremely fast, small airplanes, low to the ground, is a dangerous environment to be in just on its own. Then, in the story, he's throwing bales of cocaine out of the airplane, loading them up with guns, so every once in a while in this scene he's got to climb out of the cockpit »

Black Panther, Planet of the Apes, Kidnap, and more make our weekly movie newsBlack Panther, Planet of the Apes, Kidnap, and more make our weekly movie newsZachary Dent6/9/2017 3:24:00 Pm

In this week's roundup of movie news we've got some new posters (including one from the Marvel universe) and a few trailers that debuted over the past couple of days!

The first poster just dropped for Marvel's Black Panther! We must say, Chadwick Boseman looks bad-ass as the title character. Captain America: Civil War was the last time we saw him put on the suit and we'll have to wait until February 16th, 2018 to see it again.

T'Challa (Black Panther), the new ruler of the advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must defend his land from being torn apart by enemies from outside and inside the country. Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, and Forest Whitaker round out an all-star cast. »

Trailer for ‘American Made’ hopes to put Tom Cruise into the Oscar race

6 June 2017 10:57 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

It has been a good long while since Tom Cruise has been a contender for an Academy Award nomination. Yesterday, a Trailer dropped for the upcoming Cruise vehicle American Made, which looks to put the action hero in something slightly weightier than usual. Now, it doesn’t look like a straight up drama, but the adventure is tinged with a potentially heavier destination. Even if that’s not the case, the last time he worked with Doug Liman, we got something kind of awesome in Edge of Tomorrow. Hopefully, history can repeat itself here. We’ll have the Trailer for you at the end of the piece, but first…let’s talk about the movie itself for a moment. The film is based on a true story, though obviously the final product will only have a passing resemblance to what actually happened. Set during the 1980’s, pilot Barry Seal (Cruise »

American Made: first trailer for new Tom Cruise film

Simon Brew Jun 6, 2017

Tom Cruise isn't just appearing in The Mummy this year. There's the very different American Made, too. Here's the trailer...

With The Mummy landing in cinemas this week, Universal has taken the opportunity to launch the trailer for its next Tom Cruise project. Once known as Mena, it’s now called American Made, and sees Cruise reuniting with director Doug Liman, following their work on Edge Of Tomorrow.

It also looks like Cruise’s most interesting acting role in some time.

The film tells the story of a hustler by the name of Barry Seal – the character is based on a real person, even if the adventures around him use creative licence – who finds himself recruited by the CIA.

Here’s the trailer…

(Apparently, the Us version of the trailer doesn’t have drugs in it, fact fans).

And here’s the full synopsis for the movie… »

Tom Cruise Runs Drugs in First Trailer for Doug Liman’s ‘American Made’

5 June 2017 2:04 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Stuntman and sometimes actor Tom Cruise does battle with The Mummy this weekend, and as is his style, he shows no signs of slowing down. He’s already filming the next entry in the Mission: Impossible series, but first he’ll headline Doug Liman’s American Made, which hits theaters in September.

Based on a (mostly) true story, American Made finds Cruise playing Barry Seal, a Twa pilot who smuggled drugs, got busted and was recruited by the CIA in the process. Whatever you may think of Cruise as an actor, you must admit he’s always willing to fully commit to whatever role he’s playing, performing. That said, he’s spent this later half of his career playing variations of the same character: Ethan Hunt from the M:i franchise — a trend that seems to be carrying over into The Mummy. In American Made, though, he appears to be »

Tom Cruise Stars in Official Trailer for Doug Liman's 'American Made'

5 June 2017 10:33 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"All this is legal?" "If you're doing it for the good guys..." Universal has unveiled the first official trailer for a film titled American Made, about a pilot recruited by the CIA to be a drug runner in the 1980s. Tom Cruise stars, and I guess I should say "taking him back to his Top Gun roots as a pilot" which is obvious, this time playing Barry Seal, telling his crazy stories as a skilled pilot. This looks pretty damn cool, and it's an intriguing follow-up for Cruise reuniting with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman again. The full cast includes Domhnall Gleeson in another unique role, plus Caleb Landry Jones, Jesse Plemons, Jayma Mays, Sarah Wright, Lola Kirke, Connor Trinneer, Alejandro Edda, Benito Martinez. This looks like a fun can't-believe-it's-real story, and Cruise seems to be enjoying himself as well. See below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Doug Liman's American Made, »

American Made Trailer & Poster Sees Tom Cruise In Over His Head

5 June 2017 9:50 AM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

If you’re like us, one big Tom Cruise blockbuster a year just isn’t enough. Cruise may be headlining the start of a brand new franchise with The Mummy this coming weekend, but those who are lukewarm on the prospect may find more to like in his other venture coming out later this year, American Made. The film reunites him with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman, and shows him as a pilot given the opportunity to run a covert operation for the U.S. government.

Universal has now released a brand new trailer for the upcoming crime flick, and it looks to be pretty darn solid. If the names Cruise and Liman aren’t enough to sell you, the trailer itself may be. It looks to be a fun little ride in the vein of War Dogs, Lord of War, and Catch Me if You Can, which is a very good thing. »

Tom Cruise Crash Lands in ‘American Made’ Trailer (Watch)

5 June 2017 9:15 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Tom Cruise combines piloting skills and charm in the first trailer for Universal’s drug-running drama “American Made” as he crash lands a small plane full of cocaine in a suburban neighborhood.

After he gets out of the plane, covered in cocaine, he flashes the usual dazzling Cruise grin and begins handing out cash to youngsters and saying, “You never saw me.”

In the film, Cruise portrays 1980s pilot and hustler Barry Seal. “I was running drugs for the CIA, the DEA and Pablo Escobar,” he says in a voiceover.

The film made headlines two years ago when a plane carrying crew members crashed on the set in Colombia in September 2015, killing two people and seriously injuring a third person. Local authorities believe that bad weather caused the twin-engine Aerostar to crash.

Cruise was in production on the movie at the time of the incident, but was not on the plane. »

Tom Cruise Nonchalantly Crashes a Plane Full of Cocaine in the American Made Trailer

5 June 2017 8:50 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

You might be used to seeing Tom Cruise pulling off insane stunts for shady government agencies in the Misson: Impossible franchise, but he's going a decidedly sketchier route in American Made. He stars as Barry Seal, a hustler and pilot recruited by the CIA to deliver illegal drugs and weapons, in this "unbelievable true story." From crashing a plane full of cocaine to being held at gunpoint by angry drug dealers, this looks like yet another chance for Cruise to prove why he's such an iconic action star. The movie, directed by Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman, hits theaters on Sept. 29 and costars Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Jesse Plemons, and Jayma Mays. »

American Made Trailer: Tom Cruise Goes Off The Grid

5 June 2017 8:40 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Even at 54 years young, Tom Cruise continues to stray far beyond his comfort zone in the search for new and exciting roles, and there is perhaps no better example of that admirable pursuit in motion than the wild first trailer for American Made.

Heralding a reunion between Cruise and his Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman – incidentally, the creative duo is poised to take the fight to the Mimics once more thanks to upcoming sequel Live Die Repeat and Repeat – American Made tells the extraordinary true story of Barry Seal, a whip-smart hustler and pilot who is drafted into the CIA in order to spearhead one of the biggest and most daring covert operations in U.S. history. So far, so Cruise.

But Barry Seal is a far cry from the straight-laced Jack Reacher, not to mention Ethan Hunt of the Mission: Impossible series, and up above you’ll get »

Tom Cruise may be hitting the big screens at the end of the week in The Mummy, but today marks the release of the International trailer for the real-life story, American Made.

The trailer gives Cruise a time to shine in the role as Seal with comedic aplomb from the very outset as he crash lands a plane full of cocaine, which also covers his face and bad 80’s haircut, into a suburban neighbourhood but before legging it before he can get caught hands a youngster bags of cocaine to keep quiet – You never saw me. We glimpse Domhnall Gleason as CIA agent Monty Shafer recruiting Seal in a bar before proceeding to get his groove on, on the bonnet of a car as the men’s deal goes from strength.
